It’ll look a lot like Christmas at West Edmonton Mall until filming of a Santa-themed motion picture there wraps up next month.
Filming of Christmas in Wonderland – starring Leslie Nielsen, Chris Kattan, Ray Liotta and other big-name actors – begins next month and explains why the mall’s holiday decorations remain up.
The movie will be released in November, according to Canadian-born writer/director James Orr of Three Men and a Baby fame.
“It’s the story of a six-year-old girl whose family has moved from Los Angeles to Edmonton – on Christmas Eve they go to the local mall to do some shopping,” says Orr.
“But it’s no ordinary mall. It’s a magical place. In fact, it’s so wonderful and magical that the little girl is convinced Santa lives there.”
Most of the movie will be shot at the mall but other locations around Edmonton will also be captured on film.
