Do any of you go in for the retro Christmas decorations? There are so many things available online from the 40s - 60s. I really love those things because they not only make me think of Christmas, they make me think of my childhood. Double memories. :D :-P ;) 8-)

i like to look at the retro stuff, but dont have any of it. my fave childhood memories are from the 60s as that was when i was 0-12. those are the best ages for great memories. i have a picture here, next to my comp, that is of my grandmother sitting next to her tree. my mother thinks it is from a year before i was born or maybe the year i was born ('57) the tree looks exactly as my minds eye saw it b4 i found this pic. my aunt always had aluminum trees and whenever i see one of those, it makes me smile....
i recently found some xmas cards that has pix of gnomes in holiday garb that are identical to some ornaments my mother had when i was little. i bought a lot of em!

Are any of your grandparents still around? I lost the last of mine around 1976. Two of them I never even met.

the granny in aforementioned pic died in 1973 and grandaddy (her dh) died a couple of years later. my father's parents died 10 and 12 years ago.

I have to say post 1970s, since I was born in 1979! My MIL has some old decorations, but I don't like them. There are a few ornaments, however, that I do like.

I was born in 74 so does that give you an idea what my decorations lean towards?

I'm a child of the 60s, so mine are all tie died and groovy....NOT

I like the traditional old ornaments and some of the newer ones...though I don't understand what the crew of Star Trek being beemed up has to do with Christmas.

yes there will be no jedi dueling to the death on my tree. Although my mother did buy me a star trek ship one year

I've got some ancient ones that run on hydraulic power. Messy, but the tree doesn't dry out!

I love retro.
I collect old glass ornaments from the 50's, and put strings of C-7s and bubble lights on my tree.

I stumbled onto this link last year, interesting read about the history of Christmas lights.

I was born in '65, so mainly did most of my growing up in the 70s, but I love decorations of the 40s-60s. :D My first year of being unable to work, I spent one afternoon at my Grandma's, helping her put her tree up and decorating it....she had a ton of stuff from the 50s and 60s that I flipped over.

We used those newer bubble lights a couple of years, but they didn't all bubble or reamin bubbling, so we went back to 'regular' lights for the tree, but they were neat looking. :wiggy:

The late 70's were the best Christmas for me. I remember lots of snow. Lots of tinsel and long holiday breaks from school. My mom had old glass ornaments that she had gotten from her mother. My dad would set the blow mold santa and candle sticks out on the front porch.

I suppose the late 60s were tops for me. I never expected much under the tree because I knew things were tight, but it was magical nonetheless. Santa would show up at the Best Theater and hand out gingerbread men and candy canes. Even the bus driver gave us something, usually an orange and a candy cane. The drivers were usually farmers and couldn't give out lots of stuff, but it was exciting. My neighbors down the road a half mile didn't celebrate till Jan. 6th. They didn't buy modern farm machinery till the mid to late 70s, so they pulled folks out of the snowbanks with their huge horses. Lots of memories.
