OK - this year I'm gonna do it - every year we say we will and never do - I'm not even going to ask my husband. I need to find people who put lights up on the houses.
Are there people that do this? My husband never has the time or energy - any thoughts?
Or - do you think I could do it? How do you know what kind of lights to buy, how do you know how many to buy?

Thoughts?

Check with your local landscaping compaines. The ones in my area will hang your lights and then will come back and take them down after the holidays for a fee. It's a way for them to make money during the off season.

If you think you can hang them then try and if you can't then you can hire someone.

How exciting!! Of course you can do it!! :) The kind of lights you buy is really up to you...just make sure they are indoor/outdoor lights (not just indoor) As far as how many...I guess that is really up to you too...depending if you want to put some around your shrubs/trees, etc. Maybe start with 3 or 4 strands & you can always buy more? We use gutter clips that clip to your gutter (obviously) & then the lights snap into the other side of the clip. (you can buy them almost anywhere) Good luck & don't fall!!

I have never heard of landscaping companies doing this, but what a great idea!!

There are companies that do put up lights and take them down for you. But I agree with everything Holiday said, you can do it by yourself. Just put your Christmas spirit into it and you'll for sure end up with something you can be proud of!!!! It's more fun that way!

I would love to put up lights on my house but it's rather high and in winter often very windy. Last year I bought a set of lights to attach to the gutter but I didn't want to risk falling down the ladder and thought of trying it out in summer just to see if I can manage to fix these gutter hooks etc... I made it up the ladder a few weeks ago but thought better of it (it's a bit scary up there !!) so no lights for me this year either until I can find somebody to do it for me.

that we'll need to call an electrician to add some outlets - I guess somewhere up near the roof. With all the inflatables etc. there just won't be enough places to plug stuff in.

Hi Yuletide, my roof line is pretty as well. Last year I looked up a company called Lighting by Rico in my area. I quite sure you will be able to find someone in your area to help with this. They used their own lights and extention cords as well. They put them up the day after Thanksgiving and took them down by Jan 5 to comply with our HomeOwners Association.
