View Full Version : I give up - where's the logic?!

Got the renewal papers through for my car insurance today. Premium was fine but they'd got my OH's name in twice (he was Alexander Alexander........!!) So I phoned them up to get that amended. While I was on, I said "Oh, does it make any difference that we've now got a garage and the car is being locked up every night instead of staying on the road" "Yes" said the girl "it will"
She came back to me a few minutes later. It did indeed make a difference - it put the bl***y premium up almost $150!!!!!!!
After shrieking in her ear and telling her that was ridiculous (I stopped mid tirade to apologise and to make it clear I wasn't yelling at HER - she said she knew and fully understood) I told her fine, I don't have a garage and it's still kept on the street. She said it was too late; I'd already told her!! So, in a very reasonable tone of voice (I thought!) I said "We've paid out money to get a garage, which is right next to the house, with security lighting and a lock on the door and you're telling me that it's going to cost me even MORE money to insure it now it's safer??!!"
With that logic, if I leave the car on the road unlocked with the keys in it, I shouldn't have to pay anything at all...........

Maureen, you CAN ask to have the insurance agent call you. Most insurance agents seem to be happily out of thew office playing golf or shopping while their staff does the actual work. But the agent is supposedly trained and knows more. It may be worth a call to the agent.

Insurance companys will try anything to get an extra few quid.

That makes no sense whatsoever! I hate insurance companies. My sister works for an independant insurance agency and she thinks they are all screwed up in their logic.

I would switch companies
Our insurance agent's office called today. They wanted us to call them with Mike's new driver license number because according to their records, it is about to expire or already has expired. Well, I just looked at his license and it doesn't expire until 2013!!! WHAT THE HECK????

Tell them you tore down the garage and the car is back on the street.
That is some crazy reasoning.

I would call them back and speak to someone else there about your account. It is possible the person you spoke to first made some mistakes.

Maureen I sent you a PM!!
Dad said insurance companies charge more for attached garages because should there be a fire the garage (and car) will be affected also!!! NEVER tell them ANYTHING!!!

There is no logic to this insane insurance. If you have an accident and you are covered for un insured, you get screwed over. In my opinion its just a scam for them to get your money. But to not have it and get a ticket it's even worse.

It doesn't make sense does it? Have you tried looking on the web for information, just to see if this is correct?

Update!!!!
My premium has actually gone down. Not by a huge amount, just about $30 but it's down. No explanation but when I got the new paperwork, it was lower. I've since been onto them another 3 times because of other discrepancies!! My other half was down as Forename, Surname, Forename again so we thought we'd better get rid of the 2nd Alexander or else if we had a bump, the company would wiggle out of it saying "but that's not you" So, got the new papers through and his name was right - he was just 107 years old!!!!!!!!! Back on the phone (because if we had a bump, the company would wiggle out of it saying "but he shouldn't be driving if he's 107) and I got it changed. New papers came through and the name was wrong again! Phoned AGAIN and the guy on the phone apologised and then commented on the fact that Sandy was 107!!!!!!!!!!
