There used to be a notification of member's birthdays at the top of the page somewhere. Has this been discontinued or am I looking in the wrong place ?

It only pops up on the day it IS actually someone's birthday (and only then if they've got the date on the calendar) and then, i think you'll find it towards the bottom of the page
