So here we are, another olympics and the United States is supposed to battle it out with China for the total medal count. I think we're going to have a great time watching Michael Phelps and Dara Torres speeding through the water like dolphins!! I'm all about supporting the US Olympic team and cheering them on! Go USA!!!!!!!!
Are you watching? What's your favorite event? Who's your favorite athlete?

Go USA.......AND Canada..........AND Great Britain......AND Ireland.......AND The Netherlands.......AND Australia..........AND all the other countries that come onto this forum!!!!!
Remember the old phrase that was battered into you at school - it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game

For me the opening ceremony is the best part !! It was absolutely gorgeous ! Really enjoyed it.
Most events are shown during the night and early morning over here so I haven't watched more than the highlights. I did see Phelps swim. Wow ! Very impressive !
I love the gymnastics too but haven't seen much of it.
Unfortunately the Belgians are not the greatest athletes and though we participate we haven't won any medals yet :-?

I LOVE the Olympics!! Normally, I can't stand much sport at all but put it in an Olympic venue and I'm all about watching it!
My favorites are gymnastics, swimming, diving and rowing...but I've been known to watch the marathons, track and field, beach volleyball and table tennis. :)
In fact, I'm watching Shawn Johnson on Floor exercise right now!

I'm all for the Olympics and the idea of fair play and sending our best to the host countries. But I am tired of seeing the so called favorites (gymnastics, rowing, swimming, diving and so on) I would like to see some of the other sporting events. Back in the day (a long time ago), you would see wrestiling, badminton, fencing, table tennis and equestrian events. I say fair play for all events. I'm glad Mr. Phelps became the 2nd most medalled athlete, but what about the others. I've turned from watching the Olympics to watching LLWS (litlle league world series).

I guess most people outside the UK won't have seen this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsFRgIb8mAQ
It's the speech by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, after he'd recived the olympic flag in the closing ceremony. It's got to be one of the best political speeches ever!!!! With Boris behind the 2012 games, we can't fail!!!!!!

Unexpectedly Belgium won one gold and one silver medal !! Not much seeing as we sent 100 athletes but Tia Hellebaut saved our country's honor in the Women's high jump.
I did see the closing ceremony and London's mayors's speech. It will certainly be a different style than the Chinese !!! Looking forward to having the olympics so close to home !

I'm sorry these are over. I love the competition....my fave is the swimming and gymnastics. The opening ceremony was AWESOME! I didn't get to watch much the second week as school had started and I needed sleep.

I loved the Olympics and I'm sad they are over but at the same time they have left a sour taste with me.
The favouritism towards the Chinese athletes at the Olympics was unfair. The Olympics are supposed to be fair but at times they weren't especially in the boxing.
In one of the Olympic finals Kenny Egan from Ireland was fighting a Chinese guy and the Chinese guy got three points for hitting Egan on the gloves. Totally unfair.
The same happened in the Taekendo when an English was fighting a Chinese girl and she had a clear kick to the Chinese girls head but it wasn't scored but everyone seen it. Fair enough the result of the fight was over turned after the fight and the English girl was declared the winner but the judging was totally unfair!!

happened to Germany´s Basketball Team as well as it happened to Germany´s female field Hockey Team.

I think that favouritism was shown in gymnastics too. Natasia Liukin of the USA tied for first place with a Chinese gymnast named HeKexin and the judges gave the Chinese the gold and never gave a real explanation as to why. It's unfortunate, but luckily the US "Redeem Team" blew out the Chinese basketball team in their first game. So that taught 'em...you can't get special treatment when LeBron James is slam dunking on you! LOL
