I will have to give the "Now, That's What I Call Christmas" franchise credit. They do a fairly decent job of blending Christmas music from the older to the new. However, for serious collectors too many of the time honored so called classics constitutes fluff.

While this latest CD offers only one tune that before now hasn't seen the light of day on CD, there are just too many "throw aways" to make it worth buying new. Who wants to add a CD to their collection that contains about 80% of what's already in one's collection? As far as the newer tunes, most are from artists of which I'm not very interested.

That being said, I do own two of the "Now" Christmas collections; bought one on clearence and the other used. Although I already had most everything on them, the price was cheap enough that I could economically add Christmas tunage to the collection. Even if I'm not particularly interested in certain artists/genres, that Christmas "hook" will get me everytime if the price is right! I've added some pretty good tunes that I would have otherwise overlooked by shopping at pawn shops, thrift stores, yard/tag sales, etc.

My suggestion for these types of compilation CDs is to use them as a basis of starting a Christmas music collection. Choose one series like this "Now" collection to build a good foundation of classics while getting the newer tunes as well. Be careful though! After awhile you'll be wandering the back alleys digging for the obscure when the Christmas music bug latches onto your groove bone.

dvdguy, this is the fourth Christmas offering from the "Now That's What I Call Christmas" series. Der Bingel has already made his appearance! That's why it's important to stick to one particular series like this one or the many others like the Time-Life collection when seriously collecting.

If anyone is interested, I saw the first "Now, That's What I Call Christmas" double CD set at a local used record/cassette/cd store for Five Bucks USD.
