Due to an unusual rash of spammers using bogus email addresses from free email service providers we will no longer be able to support ANY users using the following free services:

Yahoo.com
Gmail
Hotmail

What does that mean? That means new users will not be able to sign up using emails from those free accounts. Existing users WILL be able to stay online with email addresses from the above but may NOT receive mail from us.

Existing members are strongly encouraged to use other email resources than these large free email providers, such as email addresses typically provided by your ISP.

The issue of spam affects us in many ways and we spend countless hours and thousands of dollars keeping spammers off our boards. We also suffer from because accused of being spammers by allowing use of and sending mail to these free services. The time has come to completely disallow association with these free services in any way.

This change will go into full effect for new users immediately and for existing users by November 1st.

I use yahoo and hot mail because when I was on dail-up I changed servers frequently and so I would have to do a lot of notifying about the changes and my yahoo and msn email always stayed the same.
Also, I didn't want any junk mail or virus coming to my server mail.

I am now with Dish Network wildblue so my address will be the same for at least a year, I will change.

This thread was more than a year ago...we have moderated this somewhat but I can tell you from experience that we get tons of bounce notices from Yahoo, gmail, Hotmail, MSN and especially AOL email addresses -- so if there is some sort of email notification from us that you signed up for you may not get it because of your email provider, not MMC.

I was offered an email account when I signed up with rogers, only at the time I did not need it. Now I cannot figure out how to get one. So as soon as I figure it all out I will get my email changed.
