I chose Halloween, but I'm always geared up for Christmas.

 I shop throughout the year and think Christmas everyday and have learned to let the spirit shine even if it means jeers and evil glares from co-workers and family members. The family members don't look at me that strange anymore. They are thankful that I have found a few Christmas forums to unleash my Christmas joys so they don't have to hear as much about it year round.
I chose December 1st though because that's around the time I decorate for the holidays and start finalizing my Christmas shopping.
The Canadian Thanksgiving is the first Monday in October and there's still Halloween to come before decorating for Christmas. So I guess I "kick into high gear" the first weekend in December.

I have christmas music downloaded on my treo. I play it at work & make people cry

Why do they cry? Are you singing along with it?

mrshfromjersey

OH...he's got a beautiful voice. I met him at a karaoke bar!!

He wears a Santa hat to work from Thanksgiving until Christmas.

Was he singing or was it the monkey?

mrshfromjersey

Good question. Maybe it was a ventriloquist (sp?) monkey

dvdguy
08-24-2006, 07:36 AM
no ventroliquism, theres no place to stick my hand(wait a minute...) monkeys are just to pick up chicks not sing

what are they? I work on Christmas projects year around, listen to Christmas music year around. Even pop in a Christmas dvd anytime of the year.

Yes, we need more posts on holiday decor! Erv and I are getting lonely down in the decorating section.

If I had to pick from the list above, I would choose Halloween. Usually I get the bug at the end of September, though.

i am usually knitting and crocheting stocking stuffers for friends and family. i do lots of things with ribbon. and lots of things with bells. and am always making a wreath of some sort.
i dont have the space to do muych of anything that involves power tools. this makes me sad.

dominick
10-14-2006, 11:23 AM
Not everything I do uses power tools. Heck, sometimes I'm just too lazy to even go out to the garage. It may not be the most macho thing in the world to admit to, but I've gotten pretty good at and actually kind of enjoy cross stitching, though my patience for it wears thin easily. My girlfriend two years ago bought some really elaborate Care Bear Christmas kit and soon realized she had no idea what she was doing and gave up. After reading the instructions I gave it a go, and I've done a little on it here and there. It might even get finished one day.

if you have kids, a good way to mess with them is to flip the circuit breaker off for about an hour. do it as soon as you see them try to charge something

I don't think I'm ever totally out of the Christmas spirit, but it usually begins coming back with a vengeance in October. I still find time to enjoy Halloween and then Thanksgiving, but the need to watch classic TV films and specials is strong.

We usually get the Christmas tree on Black Friday or that Saturday and put it up and decorate the tree on that Sunday. Decorations are brought out and those that have never been put away and are always on display, seem a little more comofrtable when surrounded by fellow decorations. :D

I'd love for us to finish our shopping, early, but we are usually picking up layaways and finalizing the shopping a few days before Christmas. Nothing last minute in the way of a full blown panic, but I still love to be out and about enjoying that holiday spirit among shoppers...if it hasn't turned ugly!

HollyJells

actually a few days BEFORE halloween. I will pull out all my christmas stuff and start seperating and making piles of christmas all over my living room. Joe knows to stay out of there until there is a path to the couch and he always makes sure he has to work the night the tree goes up. I will decorate it then when he gets home he has the honor of putting the topper on and placing the ornaments he picked a few days before on the tree. He absolutely loves it though. ANd we make it a couple affair to decorate the outside of the house on an offday for him. He never complains and is always cheerful when I go into my christmas OCD spell.

We actually never stop planning (I should say I) for Christmas. Nothing but Christmas CD's in the truck, and hundreds of MP3's in the laptop.

I physically start decorating November 1st and the lights go on the day after Thanksgiving.

I'm also always thinking about Christmas and preparing for it.
My official "start" to the Christmas season depends on who I'm talking to or what I'm talking about.

At work: It's safer to just say Veteran's Day - and/or the day Rockefeller Center puts up its Christmas tree - just to avoid the ribbing. (Who's going to argue with Rockefeller?)

My close friends know that Christmas is in first gear from February-April, second gear in May & June, third gear in July, fourth gear in August, and breaks the sound barrier from Sept - January. Honestly, if I didn't start on my new display in February, once the previous year's display is put away, I would NEVER get it finished.

I forgot to add, the tree has to be up by the first weekend in December or my husband sulks. :busy: Overgrown kid that he is.

I voted for Thanksgiving but that is when we really start decorating.

I shop all year long for gifts. Checking out sales. I have gotten some good deals on clothes for my mom.

I go through my receipe books all year long looking for new receipes. I will make test batches through the year to see what new ones I will add to my holiday baking/cooking.

Around Oct we start testing our lights and planning on how we are going to decorate. It changes every year since we are constantly buying new decorations trying to improve until we achive what we want.

We used to wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving to decorate but a couple years ago that changed. We have a small Christmas tree for the kids bedroom. Depending on our daughter's behavior will determine when she can put the tree up and decorate it. Last year it was up 2 weeks before Thanksgiving and had it all decorated by Thanksgiving. For every good deed she could add another ornament.

This year I am off Thanksgiving week and we are hosting it for the first time so I will start decorating early.

Good golly, what with the weird weather over here, it could start any time. The last week of May was cold and wet. It warmed up nicely after that, but today its back to overcast and chilly. Welcome to the British Summer.

Halloween is a joy for me because I know not only that night I will be munching down on candy... but that once the clock strikes 12 on November 1st, the Christmas season has arrived! If you pay attention closely, the second it's November, people start thinking about Christmas, stressing about it, and some people get in the spirit. I was at the mall last year with my Grandma a couple days before Halloween and the entire mall was already decorated for Christmas. That definitely is the holiday season for me! :D

gameshowguy2000
06-21-2007, 10:01 AM
For me, it starts on Halloween (considering that lasts one day, and when the clock stikes midnight, the Halloween stuff gets marked down big time, and in comes the holiday merchandise).

Though really, I begin shopping in the summer (not just in honor of Christmas in June/July). I mean, 7 years ago, my family and I were shopping at Garden Ridge in the summer, and we bought some Christmas signs for the front lawn (and the front of the store was just filled with Christmas stuff). This has also happened at a Dollar Tree in September of last year.

I guess in reality even though I think about Christmas all the time I decoarte the weekend before Thanksgiving. This year my Mom is having surgery on November 17th so I am going to try to talk her into letting us help her decorate her house the 15th and 16th of November then as long as all goes well with her surgery my house will get decorated November 22nd and 23rd!

I start planning and thinking about Christmas in September but that option wasn't on the poll. But decorations go up outside in Nov. on any warm day which could be the early part of Nov. Lights go on Thanksgiving night. Tree goes up day after Thanksgiving except for the year I surprised my neice at Thanksgiving.

One of my favorite days is the day after Thanksgiving because most people are finally ready for Christmas. Lights are up, the music starts in most stores. It's a nice time.
