outrageous or complicated or just plain crazy decoration that you put up every year?

i spend 2 days hanging over 500 acryllic snowflakes from my ceiling.

my new apt has a cathedral ceiling so i am not so sure this is going to happen this year, but... you never know!

kinda like decals but they are not sticky, they stick to the window through static electricity. When you take em down you can use em again

I don't really have anything out of the ordinary. I've been kinda starting over so I don't have a whole lot. I tend to be very simple.

oddly enuf, i dont have a picture of any of my snowflake ceilings. not sure how that happened...

before i did snowflakes, i used to hang gold and silver balls on red belvet ribbon, interspersed with tons and tons of fake mistletoe. (i have cats - none of the real stuff here!) i have lots of pix of that... but none of the flakes.

it has cost more than a little to get all those snowflakes. i dont like tacky ones. they have to be well made and highly reflective so as to sparkle in the candlelight.

xo

elfworks

i also have a snowflake china cocoa set. and snowflake soaps for the guest bath. and just zillions and zillions of snowflake ornaments all over the place.

life is good.

I definitely would like to see what your snowflake ceiling looks like. That sounds intersting. I like things that sparkle in candle light. I like candle light especially at Christmas. Any way to take pictures and post them?

elfworks

well, as it is august.... uhm, not really. but if i figure out a way to get all those flakes up on this idiotically high cathedral ceiling, i will def take a pic and post!

Yes. I do want one of those big snow globes. Everytime I see one, I hug it.

My late grandmother, who lived with our family while I was growing up, used to want the decorating to be exactly the same every year, yet she didn't have the best memory. She would end up in a big arguement with my mother. One year my Mom made a very intelligent decision. She took polaroid pictures of every decorated room and when we packed the Christmas decorations up for the year, she put the polaroid picture on top of the box. The next year there were no arguements.

:-) I couldn't do it last year because of the cat, but I have a creative snow scene I make on the coffee table.

I start with fake snow, then the shiny glitter snow. I add various festive knick-knack characters and old broken plastic ornaments to it. (Sounds tacky, but really it isn't.) I use a paper brick pattern to make it look like inter-locking brick or cobblestone is under the snow. I use a few sturdy boxes and add more snow to make hills. I set up my winter village and the best part is I use Grumpy from the old Seven Dwarfs ornaments we had on our old kiddie tree to sweep the snow from the sidewalk using Frosty's broom. I toss on some music and get right into it.

I also have a Dicken's Village, but the snow scene on the coffee table brings a smile to my face and is filled with good cheer.

Ah yes...cat's and Christmas decorations are a difficult mix. We haven't been able to put up a regular sized Christmas tree since our first Christmas together. We would go to work and come home to a tree laying on the floor.

:wiggy: The upsidedown Christmas Tree - would have to be less than three feet to be safe from our cat. It was bad enough he wouldn't let us place wreaths on all the doors inside. We had one in our bedroom and the front door, but that was all. He kept leaping at them. Everything became a new challenge for him.
We're hoping he's calmed down enough to try a few things. He might eat his way through my winter village though. Grumpy would be carried off into a hiding spot and the walkway would never get cleaned.

Here's the story...readers digest condensed version

Wife was having spinal surgery. Husband bought her a laptop to keep her occupied while stuck in the house recovering. Wife hasn't signed off since March....
Husband bought himself one too. We've set up a wireless network and have been known to send AIM messages to each other while sitting right next to each other.

Yes...we are crazy.

Not a really a decoration, but I was going through some boxes of Christmas stuff and came across my green Rudolph and the Misfit Toys tie. Despite it's tackiness, I really like it. It's got most of the characters from the movie on it, with a large Rudolph on the bottom complete with flashing LED nose. And yes, it plays Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I don't know whether or not I should admit it, but what the hey... I have matching boxers, too. :D
