What is your family tradition for stocking stuffers?

My parents would find the weirdest stuff to put in them. It was almost like they had a contest to see who could put the strangest thing in everyone's stockings. There was always chapstick, candy and small toys, but the weird things were the most fun.

How about an orange in the toe of the stocking. I know that used to be big in the "olden days" because citrus fruit was not very plentiful up here and it was a special treat

drost makes a product called the chocolate apple. Its chocolate shaped like an apple :grin: & it breaks apart into apple slices. It was a yearly tradition in my family, until this past year when we could not find it, because they are not importing it anymore :(

what kind of tradition should i start

I wonder, caseyd, my wife is always wanting to start a tradition, so are they actually started on purpose or do they just sort of happen over time? It feels all Norman Rockwellish to have family traditions, but when you set out to start them, they seem artificial. Having said that, if you want to start a tradition of sending Christmas toupees to your MMC buddies, I'd be all for it. :)

funnily enough, we only use our stockings for decoration, all presents go under the tree

Every year at Christmas I could count on my stocking having and orange, a toothbrush and a tube of Crest, and Teaberry gum. My parents were both school teachers, so gum of any sort was a very rare treat. Christmas was the only time I would ever get my very own pack of gum!


I love to find odd things for the Christmas stockings I get to stuff... car air fresheners, small bungee cords, pocket knives, key chains, eye glass cleaners, Tide to go sticks, hard to find candy bars...the old timey favorites, and toys! Even when I fill a stocking for an adult, the stocking hs to have toys! Hot Wheels cars, small packs of Legos or Lincoln Logs, slinkys, you name it..

Me and my mom still do stockings and my dog gets one too, big part of it! I love mine, anything goes. I'm like a big kid, so there is a lotta cool stuff!

Its always different every year, always something to look forward to!!! :P

those books of Lifesaver candy were always in our stockings. Along with other candy, little toys, and always a small tube of toothepaste. Funny eh?
