Although I am only half Italian (the other half is Irish) I was raised in a very traditional Italian family. When my mom was still around we used to celebrate what Italians call the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Anyone else?

dvdguy doesn't like fish (except shrimp) so he would have to have the feast of the seven swedish fishes.

 Thanks for the memories . . .

I celebrated Thanksgiving Dinner with my Italien neighbours who put on quite the tasty spread - turkey was there and stuffing, but there were at least three main Italien dishes on the table - it was yummmmmy!

 I'm three-parts Irish, one-part French with Italien, Mexican and Asian taste buds.

Not to change the holiday but...

One July 4th our friend's Italian parents almost killed us with all the food they made. There was steak, chicken, pasta, burgers, hotdogs and yes...fish. A nice "light" meal.

:-) I remember when I was little celebrating with a few Irish Traditions.

My husband's parents were also Irish and he told me about the Laden Table.

THE LADEN TABLE

After evening meal on Christmas eve the kitchen table was again set and on it were placed a loaf of bread filled with caraway seeds and raisins, a pitcher of milk and a large lit candle. The door to the house was left unlatched so that Mary and Joseph, or any wandering traveller, could avail of the welcome.

~ In my family gatherings there was a wonderful buffet of hot and cold items available, but we never had a Laden Table.

From my favorite non-Christmas movie...

"The Godfather is the I Ching. The Godfather is the sum of all wisdom. The Godfather is the answer to any question. What should I pack for my summer vacation? "Leave the gun, take the cannoli." What day of the week is it? "Maunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Wednesday." And the answer to your question is "Go to the mattresses."

This is what my mom makes every Christmas Eve. She makes a pan full of scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster, calimari, filet of sole, and breadcrumbs. We have mussels marinara as our appetizer as well!!!
