What a magical poem! I agree with you, Rod, it does stand the test of time. What I like about it is that it showcases giving and saying "Merry Christmas".

Yes this is such a classic and is such and easy and fun read. Kids recognize it in a flash...I also love the fact that there are some many editions of it...some wonderful, fancy bound volumes with the best illustrations down to simple children's editions of the classic story.

I also love the "tradition" that some people make of reading it on Christmas Eve...

I have bought it last November and read it for Kandice every time....English is not her first language (I and the whole family speak German to her....I sometimes drop some English words from time to time)...and my fiance speaks English to her.....my fiance and I speak English too.....so I think reading books...that come with nice pictures is a nice way for her to learn it playfully a little more...especially if it has Santa Claus and Dodos (her name for Rudolph....and any other deer...and animal wir horns or antlers).

I like the poem myself and it brings some magic into it all....And since December 23rd 2008 it´s a tradition to read it every year at least on this day....the 23rd since we open the presents on the 24th....We all love the magic of it...as well as the illustraion of our version

Yes it has stood the test of time! I have a pop-up version that I bought when Sara was born and it is very precious to both of us. "Twas The Night Before Christmas is on display each Christmas and it is read several times throughout the season. Christmas Eve would not be the same without this little book. It is magical!

hardly anyone who has not heard this at one time or another. I used to have a book that I read to the kids when they were small (no idea what happened to it)

Originally called "a visit from St Nicolas" it was written in 1822 by Clement C. Moore as a Christmas gift for his kids.

It is a great story to read on Christmas eve and rightly so. Since it is the story of Santa's arrival, it is a wonderful way to get the kids imagination going and excitement elevated for the coming morning! (just in case it is not already high!)

This is the most beloved story and, as Rod said, Kids just accept and recognize--there is no need to question. It is just what it is...that's the beauty of it. 500 years from now, it will be the same and largely because of people like us who keep the magic of Christmas alive.

I have an ornament version of it, a miniature book, which I hang in my tree every year. I even memorized the poem to help me fall asleep in the months before Christmas (gives a change from counting sheep cheesy)


Did your parents read it to you when you were kids ? Are you passing on the tradition to your own kids ?

It is stories like this one that keep the myth of Santa alive.
