Hi everyone

I'm a newbie here and just love christmas and was wondering what makes you all feel christmassey? Is it seeing the christmas lights in town, wrapping up your gifts, a certain tradition each year, playing christmas carols that does it?... Share what gets you in the christmas spirit!

For me it's walking down Oxford St (London) after work, listening to carols on my mp3 player and looking at all the deerations, lights and the hurried shoppers whizzing by.. x

The Macy's Day Parade is a big kick-off for me. When I watch the parade and finally see the Rockettes and Santa...I feel Christmasy. Also, the first time I spot a Christmas display in the stores or malls, I feel the need to decorate!

For me it's the cumulative effect of everything: the shows on TV, the lights, the tree in my house, the shopping for family's gifts. But one prerequisite that I haven't had in about 14 years is colder weather. I know alot of you who have always lived where it's cold may not appreciate it, but try having Christmas in Arizona when it's in the 70's. Arizonans actually wear jackets when it's 70 out, and look at me like I'm crazy when I say I wish it was colder. They say, "The 115 degree summers are worth enduring, for the 70 degree winters." I disagree. Oct, Nov, and Dec aren't the same to me when it's still warm. The average high doesn't dip below 80 until Nov 8th. So it's 80 and above till Nov 7th.

So my answer would be colder weather before anything else. Which is why I'm sending out resumes as we speak.

I hear you, CBroadband. I actually own a house and 40 acres in PA but live in Nashville in an apartment because there aren't any jobs up home anymore. I miss the snow, though in Tennessee you'll get one or two a year. The arrival of my Swiss Colony catalog generally sets me off for Christmas.

I love that...me too, lol! Snow and cool weather definitely get me in the spirit! Plus Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Gingerbread Hot Chocolate and anything that smells like cinnamon or candy canes (peppermint cream)!

I feel all "Christmasy" when I encounter the "firsts" of the season:

The first Christmas catalog in the mailbox.
The first sign of Christmas decorations going up in the stores.
The first Christmas TV commercial.
Watching (via webcam) the tree being delivered to Rockefeller Center.
Taking deliveries of new Christmas decorations for my display.

Other than that, give me a hot beverage in a Christmas mug, Frank Sinatra's Christmas album on the CD player, and pine-scented candle and I'm good to go!

I agree with everyone.....i love everything christmasy, so it all gets me in the mood. But if i had to pick a couple top 3 it would be:

1. the smells...the scent of nutmeg and cinnamon baking in the oven! o man thats the best feeling ever!

2. the music....i start listening to xmas music at the beginning of november becuase i love it so much. The memories it brings back, the feeling it bring up inside you. Makes me feel warm and cozy even on the coldest nights.

3. the decorations...all the garland, big tall trees, ornaments, people outside putting lights on their house, shiny silver and gold tinsel, holly berries, big red bows....everything!

After Thanksgiving I start decorating my house and I decorate the tree; watching my favorite Christmas moves; I love to watch the old comedy sitcoms Christmas shows; (I miss the Christmas specials the networks use to show when I was growing up);
baking Christmas cookies with my grandchildren and of course playing my Christmas cds.

Yes, I would, but I'd pass upside down 4x4s on the way. There were guys stuck in Hummers during a 5" snow a few years ago. I saw a 4x4 Grand Cherokee nose first in a ditch so deep the back wheels were off the ground (guess that makes it a 2x4). Folks are crazy!

I had a Ford F250 4x4 for several years and don't recall having to use the 4x4 at all. My front wheel drive car I have now goes thru the snow quite well until the drifts get higher than the hood. At that point nobody should be driving anyhoo.

For me it would have to be when the park near our home puts up all thier decorations and lights and then you take a ride through the park on a horse drawn carriage ride. It's absolutely beautiful. Then when you are finished seeing the sights from the ride you can walk around on foot and enjoy a nice steaming cup of hot apple cider. Christmas carols and big flakes of snow also spark that Christmas feeling.

I live about 20 minutes from Kansas City and there is a big area of shopping and restaurants called The Plaza just south of the city. They have horse drawn carriage rides. I've been down there several times to take a spin in the carriage. Plus they do this huge Christmas lighting ceremony on Thanksgiving night so you get to enjoy all of the lights and the ride at the same time!!

Well.....

For me it is the decorating day! Normally the first weekend of December, we get the box down, put on the carols for the first time, and watch our house transform!

My perfect Christmas scene, is sitting in front of the fire, reading a Christmassy book, looking at the tree, and listening to the dog snoring.

I'm so looking forward to decorating, this year...I always get excited about the day, but this year, I'm really looking forward to the tree going up.

Last night my youngest brother, his wife and their baby came for a visit and my sister-in-law asked if we'd gotten some decorations out, already and I had to tell her they'd never been put back! 8) I told them they need to come down and see us more often, if she doesn't remember I keep some items out all year, it's been too long since their last visit and they live less than an hour away!
