Impressive list, ryansrs1!

Virtually anything by Joan Armatrading, Marshall Crenshaw, White Animals, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Rockpile, Dave Edmunds, Split Enz, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Rachel Sweet, … (I’ll add more as I think of them). Some of these are still around too!

Radio had pretty much hit rock bottom (and has stayed there) by the mid Eighties so I had to read magazines and hang out in record shops (remember those?) to find the really good music shunned by corporate broadcast vampires. Thank God for cassette players in cars back then and now CDs and MP3 player ports!

Interesting choices!!!

I like Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes - got good memories to that one. I agree totally with Vienna - Ultravox, Fade to Grey - Visage. Also very attached to Plant Earth - Duran Duran, To Cut a Long Story Short - Spandau Ballet, Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant, New Life - Depeche Mode, Personal Jesus - Depeche Mode (although Marilyn Manson's version is way better in 2004), Tainted Love - Soft Cell

THEN.....

Jump - Van Halen, Unskinny Bop - Poison, Love is a Battlefield - Pat Benatar, Thriller (of course) - Michael Jackson

I could go on but I want to get to bed!!!

I am not sure I am doing this right. Are we listing strictly 80's bands (that made their first hits in the 80's) or they could be from the 70's and listing there hits from the 80's.

If it's hits they made in the 80's (all of them made hits in the 70's), I like just about everything from these bands:

Journey (first concert I have ever been to)
Van Halen (seen in concert)
Rush (seen in concert)
Queen

Band or artist from the 80's:

U2
Ratt
Prince

I need some more coffee. I will probably think of more later. cheesy

I never was a big Judas Priest fan but some friends took me to go see them and I was impressed! They were really good and put on a good show. Enjoy!

I see you have Motley Crue and Loverboy on there. I have seen Loverboy 3 times and Motley Crue once when they opened up for Ozzy Osbourne in the 80's.

I have left the whole concert scene many many years ago until I heard Paul McCartney is coming to town in August. I am a huge Beatles fan. I am getting tickets Monday morning!

I cannot narrow too much, but I can narrow it to a genre: hair metal, although I like eighties music period.

I am more of a late 60s and 70s person, but there was definately some good stuff in the 80s, like:

U2
Whitesnake
Def Leppard
Journey
Ozzy
Loverboy
REO Speedwagon
Triumph

I think some of these started in the 70s, but weren't really known until the 80s. But as far as I am concerned, there is nobody better than Led Zeppelin, obviously a 70s band, but none better.

What do you think of Steel Panther?

I am not familar with them. I looked them up and it looks like they play mostly on the West Coast. I am on the East Coast.
Are they good?

Kelly, 2 good bands you meantioned. Namely TheSex pistols and clash- im well into punk but UK punk, not stuff like the offspring and green day (though some green day is ok).

If were talking them kind of bands i like the buzzcocks, undertones, souxie and the banshees, P.I.L, Stiff little Fingers, the ****ed etc. Oh and noth forgetting The Jam- awsome band.

Also ska/two-tone bands around same time such as Madness, The specials (class band), Bad Manners. Another band from around then but more early 80s are Cockney Rejects-still going 2day-though it aint 'everyones cup of tea'cheesy.

Cheers

J (Now doing the pogocheesy)
