Well I remember that on the Christmas.com forum was a thread like this, and there were so many replies through the year... I really enjoyed reading that one...
So I thought maybe we could start it again here (unless it hasnt been posted somewhere).

How is the weather at Your place today?

At my place, it is mostly a cloudy day with showers... rain was falling all the morning.
Temperature is about 22 C, while yesterday was even under the 20 C. Yep, the autumn is here (which is only one step before winter season and of course the beginning of the most wonderful time of the year).
:D

Yea dvdguy get used to that. You'll be having Thanksgiving out on the patio. It's still in the 80's at that time. It's still in the 90's now.

I'm happy to report that I hit snow on the road home from Denver last night!

Wow snow already. Well I guess it's beginning to look like Christmas your way. How was your cruise? Do you and the Mrs. feel refreshed?

Jeff Westover
09-16-2006, 10:37 AM
Heavens no. The last four days of the cruise were spent at sea -- they canceled our stop to Bermuda because of Florence and we were tossed about on the water endlessly. No sleep whatsoever. On Tuesday we left the ship at 8am and didn't get home until after 11pm our time. The next day I took off for Denver and didn't get home until late last night.

So I'm exhausted and ready for a break!

I went walking this morning when it was only 77º, but it has gone up to 87º or so now. It was exciting to here that you saw snow, Jeff. It's an unusual week when you dodge a hurricane and see snow. Makes for better stories later. Dvdguy, your greatest pleasure the first year is going to be calling your friends and family and telling them that you're wearing a t-shirt and shorts at Christmas.

Jeff Westover
09-16-2006, 10:14 PM
I hadn't even thought of that, Sheep. It has been a long, long week.

But most exciting for me was this afternoon. I live at the base of the Wasatch mountains -- they tower about 10,000 feet above my back yard. And they got dusted very nicely last night. Best of all though came this afternoon when we had SNOW in our front yard -- can't remember the last time we had September snow. The kids ran out and tried to scoop up the slopy gunk from the driveway...they weren't really snowballs but it all certainly set the mood. We had a fire in the fireplace and everything.

Yesterday was flat out weird. No other way to describe it. We live right at the mouths of Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, down from where Alta and Snowbird and Solitude ski resorts are. They get about 500 inches of snow every year. I don't know how much we get officially but it feels like 500 inches every time we get hit and I have to shovel it.

They call it the Greatest Snow on Earth, and that's because they make money from it. As for me, I like it from the inside looking out.

OMG!! I would be in heaven! Of course no one in Arkie knows how to drive in that kind of weather so if that picture was taken here the SUV would have been in a ditch!

If we get anything it is normally ice and it happens late Jan-early Feb. While it's white it reeks havoc on the power. But that is just amazing to me to know it is snowing somewhere when its so hot here.

Perfect weather for a yard sale. It was nice and cool this morning when I first started, got a little windy by 9 but who doesn't love a cool breeze? Suppose to be in the mid 40's tomorrow morning and the weather dude is saying by Thursday of next week our highs will only be in the low 60's!! YAY, I am so happy...I can finally dig out some of my cold weather clothes!

Hey Snots, what if you are on a laptop and don't have the number pad?

the weather is getting better both in my hometown of Atlanta and down in south Georgia where I'm in school. Today it's cool and dark with the wind blowing, so I was once again, able to wear my GSU hoodie! I'm going back home again this Thursday, so I checked my driving weather and guess what?! Thursday, the high in Atlanta will barely break into the 60's!!!!!!! That is VERY cool and awesome for this time of year. We're getting a cold fall!! This means we might actually have a chance at a white Christmas in Atlanta! Pray for me!

:-) I woke up at 2:30 a.m. with a light blanket of snow on the ground, now it's coming down in huge fluffy flakes, the Canada Geese are honking up a storm of their own.

:) Later today, O'Malley the Cat will join us on the balcony off the Dinning Room to check out the snow for the first time. Last Spring was when we started letting him come out with us. He was trying to chase the leaves falling from the leaves yesterday and the day before due to strong blowing winds - so I can imagine this new discovery will provide a few laughs.

We're supposed to have seven to eight inches before the day is done.

For you snow lovers....

2 Feet of Snow Falls on Western N.Y.
By CAROLYN THOMPSON (Associated Press Writer)
From Associated Press
October 13, 2006 6:30 AM EDT
BUFFALO, N.Y. - A rare early October snowstorm left parts of the Great Lakes and Midwest blanketed with 2 feet of snow Friday morning, prompting widespread blackouts, closing schools and halting traffic.

The snow downed scores of tree limbs and toppled power lines, leaving more than 220,000 customers without electricity in western New York.

By early Friday, 14 inches of snow had been recorded at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, with reports of 2 feet elsewhere, said Tom Paone, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. The snowfall was expected to continue throughout the morning, he said.

On Thursday, 8.3 inches of heavy snow set the record for the "snowiest" October day in Buffalo in the 137-year history of the weather service, said meteorologist Tom Niziol. The previous record of 6 inches was set Oct. 31, 1917.

"This is an extremely rare event for this early in the season," Niziol said.

Detroit also set a record, its for the earliest measured snow. On Thursday, the city broke by one day the mark set on Oct. 13, 1909.

The weather, among other factors, prompted Major League Baseball to move up the start time of Game 3 of the AL championship from 8:19 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Only a few players practiced outdoors at Comerica Park on Thursday. The infield was covered with a tarp, so most of them hit in indoor cages.

"It's definitely not going to be baseball weather tomorrow," said Dave Gurney of the National Weather Service in Michigan. "Around 45 degrees, wind gusts up to 35 mph and some snow showers."

Meanwhile, a 105-mile stretch of the New York State Thruway from Rochester to Dunkirk, southwest of Buffalo, was closed Friday morning because of the snow.

The Buffalo Police Department received more than 3,000 calls late Thursday and about two-thirds were related to the weather, Lt. James Watkins said.

"There are power lines going down all over the place," he said.

Crews worked into the night to restore power, but many customers were expected to remain in the dark through the weekend and into next week, National Grid energy company spokesman Steve Brady said.

"This is extremely heavy snow and most of the trees still have most of their leaves, he said. "We can't do a complete damage assessment until the snow stops falling."

Dozens of schools were closed and states of emergency were declared in the City of Tonawanda, and towns of Cheektowaga, Elma, Lancaster, Akron, and Depew.

Unnecessary driving was banned in Buffalo and suburbs Amherst, Blasdell, Orchard Park and Hamburg.

"We have a condition where 80 percent of the roads are impassable," said Lt. Stephen McGonagle of the Amherst Police Department.

Officials said the snowstorm caused flight delays and cancellations at Buffalo's airport, which was shut down for almost two hours late Thursday.

Meanwhile, tree branches were strewn across the roads around the region. A large box maple tree split in half, falling on Joan Casey's home in Buffalo.

"The whole house shook," Casey said. "We were very afraid. Originally I thought it was just the thunder, and then I came outside and I couldn't believe it."

:-P Glad we didn't suffer from the snow. I heard the squealing of delight from children in the Playground across the street. The school buses were running today, I was surprised they usually stay parked for the first snowfall because the other drivers aren't prepared yet.

No Eggnog in our stores yet. They have it available in Western Canada.

I'll look myself when I go out to fetch some new winter boots. This snow will go in a day or two and then in a few weeks, we'll likely be hit with snow that will pretty much remain.

Lake effect snow right? 2 feet of snow to Buffalo residents is like an inch of snow to everyone else. Don't even slow things down up there.

I guess due to this cold snap I am really in the Christmas mood today. Got my Christmas Tree candle warming and got Christmas music cranking on the internet. I am wrapped up in my fuzzy blankie and all I need is some eggnog.

I have family in Buffalo, my grandma, my aunt and two uncles. My grandma and aunt live together. My aunt called on her cell a couple of hours ago and told us they have no power, so I'm kind of worried about them because my grandma is 87 and I don't think being in a house with no heat with 2 feet of snow outside is good for her, the house doesn't even have a working fireplace. Please keep them in your prayers.

It has turned COLD!!! It is still misty raining (just enough to make it miserable out) and the wind is blowing with gusts of 35 mph. I dont mind the colder weather but the mist and wind have got to go!!

Sounds like we have the same weather system. 40 mph wind gusts today with a high in the 40s. 29 tonight. At least they were wrong about the snow!

right now we're in the middle of a tornado watch...it's pouring and thundering here and the wind is practically throwing the rain at my door. it's been a long while since it's rained this hard, but this means that the weather is going to get really cool tomorrow

YOU were on here? I am suprised!! It is cold here this morning and the winds are crazy. I felt like I was driving in sideways to work this morning!!

I heard on the news this morning that Montgomery, Alabama was hit pretty hard, a man in Lousiana was killed and there are injuries in Mississippi. Now there are watches up and down the Eastern US. Sounds like the storms got stronger and stronger as they marched across. I hope everyone is ok.

:-( Well we've had terrible weather this nasty storms ripping trees up and roofs of houses, it supposed to be coming into summer here, but yesterday we had snow for about 2 minutes and freezing temperatures, go figure, today is beautiful and starting to warm up, I just want the warmer weather to stay for a while now........ lets see ... you never know I might get a white Christmas after all with the weather being so strange.

i think it's so interesting that while it's Christmas on one side of the world, it's summertime and on the other side of the world where I am it's winter! I can't imagine celebrating Christmas to summertime! that's so interesting.

The weather here is cold 5 degrees C. We are said to have snow over the weekend as some of the other towns around here have had a slight sprinkling. But at the moment it is very frosty out there tonight

I heard last night the news guy saying it was gonna be colder in Atlanta last night than it was here and I thought about you!! Glad you got to see some snow. :D

It is slowly warming up here this week, high 69 on Turkey Day (so much for that 57 average high you found out about for me Sheep). I guess it is expected to stay warm here for awhile...gonna be interesting picking out the tree this weekend while sweating.
