My neighborhood wants to have a Christmas decorating contest for the homes in our area this year. I need information about rules, categories of winners, prizes. etc.

well. first of all, WELCOME!!! go over to introductions and let us know who you are!
second... sorry cant help you with your q. i would think that the rules and categories and prizes are whatever yall want them to be. i dont think there is some OFFICIAL RULES FOR OUTDOOR LIGHT CONTESTS anywhere....
you and your fellow hoodies just need to have a pow-wow and figure these things out!
however, dont take my word, i am sure the big guns will chime in any minute!

I'm gonna go with EW on this, & say you have to set the rules to someting you can all agree on.

Fewer rules the better as long as no city and/or neighborhood ordinances are broken. Usually cities have these contests. The city where I lives does and they hand out cash prizes with $500 for first place.

The house that won this here last year didn't really have that many lights but they were hung in a tasteful way and the whole yard didn't look overly decorated
