Been a crazy night. I got home from walking to find a posse in my yard...seems the neighbor thru the woods didnt lock up his huge mastiff again and she attacked the BF sister's dog, the sister and apparently another neighbors kid. Bad thing about it is that we have all been having troubles with this dog for some time, she attacked our dog back in the summer and the idiot wont keep her in her pen.
Finally after getting supper cooked I see that Law and Order x2 has been delayed here due to a political debate. :x

I hope they do before one of these teed off parents/husbands does something to it. The cop tonight said that since we are out of the city they cannot really do anything but if it tries to harm us or comes onto onto our property that we can take care of it. Just call them and tell them you did it.
They are suppose to come back and have a talk with the owner either tonite or tomorrow.

We barely have cops here. Since we are 30 minutes north of the county seat we had to wait almost an hour for the deputy to get here.

Actually she is why I changed my walking route (that and the crazed deer hunters). I used to have to walk right past her house but after the last sneak attack she did on me I decided to start walking in town around the elementary school where the dogs are required to be locked up.

But we do have "other" ways to deter the critters from coming in our yards...

Shotgun? Animal lover or not, you have to draw a line somewhere. Up here in "the city", the dog would have been put down anyway after attacking. I keep a short barreled Winchester for defense, but not against animals. :-(

Again, there is no animal control and the deputy that came out last nite said if the dog comes into the yard and attacks we have the right to do what is neccessary to protect ourselves and our property. I am not condoning going out dog hunting.

Okay, I don't mean to come off as some maniacal dog battling warrior, but I wouldn't trust pepper spray to stop any dog, let alone a Mastiff from attacking me. It's unfortunate that the dog poses a threat, but the threat is serious enough to warrant addressing with force. I've seen dogs completely ignore electrical shock before, too. Dog attacks can be a really scary situation.

Me either, considering if she was to stand on her back legs she would probably be well over 6 foot and I bet she weighs well over 100 pounds. I am not sure of much that would stop her if she really got to charging.
And I wonder why she is so mean? My aunt had an english mastiff for 10 years and even with his size he still tried to be a lap dog.

I don't get into animal psychology, but my mother and sisters are huge dog lovers (terriers for the most part). I've heard time and time again that it's the owner/trainer that dictates the dog's behavioral pattern.

Ohhh, okay. If my life were threatened by something that could literally rip me or someone I care about limb from limb, I wouldn't hesitate to put it down. Do you have any firearms?

I totally agree. I too am a dog lover (any animal for that fact) and have had dogs since I could walk and I have never had one turn mean on me. I wonder what this guy does to this dog to make her so mean. The aggressive female has a pup that we are actually taking care of. He started coming over a few weeks ago so wormy and starving so we wormed him and are keeping him in food and water. The neighbor has not even noticed. So far he is friendly and alot healthier. I have starting calling him Feet because he has such huge ones to be a pup.

Oh yes, my BF is keeping a .22 by the door. He even said he hates to have to kill her but if it comes to that he will. Thank God his 8 year old niece wasn't with his sister last night. She had to stay home and do her schoolwork.

Well I wish you guys luck with it and hope it doesn't come to a standoff. I also hope that if it does, he's a pretty good shot with that .22; it'll take a pretty clean hit at relative close range to put a dog that size down with one.
Good Luck.

Well there are bigger guns in the house, but like you said I hope it doesn't come to that. Maybe the deputy will get back by there today and convince the idiot..uh, I mean neighbor to pen her back up.
Thanks, I have a feeling we are gonna need it!!!!!

That is so perfect! We fought the squirrels all summer because they wouldn't quit stealing and eating all the tomatoes so maybe I need to bribe them. I will grow more tomatoes for an all you can eat buffet if they will start protecting the yard!!!!
Thanks for the chuckle!

Armed rodents are quit common around here, farmers get wounded all the time going out to milk the cows. Newspaper delivery kids getting pegged, pizza delivery guys wear body armor now. Iowa is slowly becoming a state of shutins and wounded.

I had agreed with you (my post was lost). I think the owners have alot to do with her attitude. Her pup is pretty much living at our house now and is doing alot better. He sleep on the porch and we are keeping him in food.
