I picked up my first yesterday, A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie @ Blockbuster for 4.99. It was prev viewed, but the package and DVD looked brand spanking new, so great deal and happy when I came across it.
The other ones I wanna pick up this year is the Home Alone SE, Scrooged SE (this better not be canceled and just delayed), Polar Express SE and the TMNT Michelangelo's Christmas Rescue 8)

I was talking to my cousin last night and she asked me if I have ever seen Elf which I have not. I've heard different reviews on it. I'm not a major fan of Will Farrell but she seemed to like the movie. She's a trip to watch movies with especially if you get her laughing. Anyway I've been considering adding it to my collection. Oh by the way for anyone who's interested. I finally got Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas. It is a great one! Each story has a great message about Christmas too!

My mom bought me a two pack DVD collection a few years back that featured "Miracle on 34th Street" & "It's a Wonderful Life"I also have the anniversary edition of "A Chrsitmas Story" it has two discs in the set & features all sorts of games & trivia on the movie & I also have two version of "A Christmas Carol" one with Patrick Stewart & the other featuring Alister Sim & finally I have the Rankin & Bass collection too.
I went to the theater with my friends to see "Jingle All the Way" when we were kids & didn't really care for the movie, but I watch it when it's on.

We just watched Elf last week. The people watching it with us didn't think much of it, but the girlfriend and I enjoy it. This week I think we're scheduled to watch Miracle on 34th Street. We've been watching a Christmas movie from my collection every week for the last three weeks, and intend to continue until Christmas.

Never heard of Nestor? Oh man, I love that cartoon even though it makes me sad. (I still can't get used to his mom dying). But I love Roger Millers voice and he does such a great job narrating it.

I wish they'd release Rankin & Bass'; The Life and Adventures of Santa Caus to DVD as well as, White Christmas from R & B, I believe that's the title, it stars Angela Lansbury as one of the nuns in the special, and is about a little shepherd boy blinded by a lightning strike.
HolyNight7

I was wondering about that one The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. I didn't know it wasn't released. I never heard of the White Christmas one.

Ya know, what is it with these Christmas cartoons from back then? They all have a meaning (like this one with Christ's birth) but it seems like you have to get thru a tear-jerking moment to get to it. Seems cruel to the kids!!!
But then again, I cry when Santa and Mr. Thistlewhite sing in A Year Without a Santa Claus.
Ervserver
10-23-2006, 12:31 PM
Don't recall crying to any Christmas shows, I remember hiding behind a curtain and crying when I saw a move called Brian's Song way back when. Although I don't cry I still hide behind a curtain whenever I see a oompah loompah YIKES !!!

HolyNight7
10-23-2006, 01:20 PM
There are quite a few sad ones out there. The Little Drummer boy is another one. The other thing I don't like about Nestor is the redicule he receives because of his ears.

Okay I watched Elf and I have to say I liked it alot. I know some here didn't like it but it hit my funny bone. My cousin actually talked me into it. I love watching movies with my cousin. She's so funny. She reminds you of Goldie Hawn. She's got blonde hair and big bllue eyes too but she's such a hoot to be around. I bought it at her suggestion and I'm glad I did.

10-23-2006, 07:27 PM

The original, Miracle On 34th Street has a moment or two where I can be reduced to tears. I just adore Edmund Gwenn in this film....I can be reduced to tears, not out of sadness for this film, but rather happiness. :-D

Cricket On The Hearth? Never heard of that one. Is it a Christmas Story?
It is based on a story by Charles Dickens and has some moments of Christmas, both in the beginning and at the end, but not what I'd consider a full blown Christmas story. Not your typical Rankin & Bass holiday special. I thought it was pretty neat.....Danny Thomas introduces and closes the episode it what appears to be a very 60s room, which I thought was neat and in watching the end credits, I believe Thomas and Aaron Spelling were producers, so perhaps this is why the special lacks the real look and feel of a Rankin & Bass holiday show?

You're welcome. :) Rankin & Bass actually produced and helped direct the 1968 film, King Kong Escapes. I do think they were best or are best known for their holiday stories, though.

I tried again last night to watch "Monster Party" and couldn't make it through. Just awful. Have any of you guys watched the whole thing? There are long pauses like they forgot their lines or are stretching it to make a full hour. Phyllis Diller's song in the beginning is as memorable as...well, I forgot. :-(

I actually enjoy this effort from Rankin & Bass. It does bog down a bit, but my overall enjoyiment of the effort is pretty high. Diller's voice and character can up the annoyment quota quite a bit, but somehow, I can get past that, I guess.

Y'all are going to laugh, but the last time I was actually in a theater was for the release of U-571. I really don't care for the experience of going, and there just isn't anything being made anymore that makes me want to drop everything and go see it. Besides, by the time you factor two tickets and refreshments, you're ahead a few bucks by buying the DVD when it comes out and enjoying it in your own home. I do have plans to go see The Santa Claus 3 with some friends next week, though.

I'm not a guy, but I am very excited about the upcoming James Bond film, not sure why, but I've loved them all. As for the films of 2006, I believe the only film we went to at the theatre, this year was, Poseidon, not my choice, as I enjoy the original far too much. I could probably be talked into going to see, Santa Clause 3.
Oh, the town about 30 minutes from here, offers two free showings of, It's A Wonderful Life at the theatre, every year. I've never gotten to go, but hoping this year might be the charm. We went down two years ago and the film was stuck in Philadelphia and wouldn't arrive until the evening showing and we couldn't attend. :( I'd give anything if they'd offer a free or heck, I;d even pay, showing of, White Christmas, I'd love to see that on the big screen. :???:

I don't really like to go either, rude people are always moving about, noisy cell phones, inhaling popcorn, etc. Some movies deserve a look on the big screen though like Star Wars and King Kong.
