When my two younger brothers and I were still quite young, Mom decided Santa hadn't gotten enough fun stuffers for the stockings, so Santa wrote us a note and placed it where our stockings normally hung, explaining he had taken our stockings back to the North Pole with him and would fill them and bring them back on New Year's Eve.
Mom said she and Dad had usually gone out with friends on NYE, but felt that they needed to be home with us and ring the New Year in that year, so that was the reason our stockings would be brought back and opened on New Year's Eve. We had such a fun time with this that it became a tradition and we still do stockings on New Year's Eve. With the excitement and fun of the holiday season winding down, it makes for one more evening of fun to look forward to and the best part of stocking stuffers on New Year's Eve? You can hit some great, 'After Christmas Sales' for the stocking stuffers. :D

It really is a lot of fun, I'm still like a big old kid and look forward to shopping and filling stockings on New year's Eve. I saw a stocking someplace, last year that must have been 5 foot long and I very much wanted to grab that for someone to fill for me. :D

I used the same stocking for years, it was my first stocking and was perfect. Sadly, my step-Dad housed several Christmas items in the attic, unbeknownst to Mom and some mice made a meal of my stocking. :( I replaced that stocking, but it sure isn't as nice as my original and perhaps I should now replace it with one of those 5-foot stockings to see if Santa could cram a widescreen TV in it?

I was afraid this might be the case. :)
What does everyone do for stocking stuffers? When I was a kid and even as an adult, I receive small gifts, some sugar-free candy, a DVD or two, a few personal items (Shampoo, perfume, etc) and lots of fun little items.

I always loved getting an orange in my stocking and another item I haven't received in probably 20+ years....a popcorn ball! :) Popcorn balls seemed to be a staple of stockings, when I was a kid, but seem to have lost some of their popularity.[/quote]

We go to Florida for Christmas with DH's side of the family after our parties here in OHio so we don't get to our stockings untill around New years. I never thought of shopping for extra stocking stuffers after Christmas. That's a great idea. We'll have to do that this year.

I remember being in elemetary school and having our Christmas party on the final day of school and quite often, I'd receive a 'book' of the Lifesavers. My favorite flavor at the time was cherry, so I'd really share all the other flavors, given. I know Dad always enjoyed either the Pep O Mint or Wintergreen and I can't recall if a roll of that flavor was included or not. I still love cherry-flavored Lifesavers as well as cinnamon.

Cartoon Network won a place in the record books by delivering the world's largest Christmas stocking - stuffed with more than 200 toys on December 9th 2005.
The stocking measured an enormous 10 metres by 3 metres, and Natasha and Daniel Bedingfield were on hand to accept the delivery, along with the UK's tallest man Chris Greener (7' 6.25" tall) and more than 40 strapping fireman from the London Fire Brigade.
A throng of GOSH ( a childrens hospital) patients swarmed into reception to see the spectacle and meet the Bedingfields, who later visited several wards and sang Christmas Carols on Tiger ward.

Wow! I don't think I've ever gained 10 pouunds in a holiday season, but I suppose it's possible. I think there are times I'm actually disappointed. I mean, you plan and wait all morning for a HUGE Thanksgiving meal and usually one plate and I'm stuffed and I think....all that effort to put a meal on and it's over in about 20 minutes! :-? Same for Christmas, I look forward to all the wonderful food, but I'm never sure if it's the excitement of the day and all that's happening, but I never eat as much as I swear I'm going to. Now, that's not to say I don't eat my fair share, but I always think my fair share is going to be a heck of a lot more. :-D

11-02-2006, 11:41 AM
I think the reason we pile so much up on our plates (atleast in my case) is that we skip breakfast to make more room for lunch and then when we finally eat we eat it so fast we get full too fast.
I plan on eating a normal Thanksgiving lunch til I am full but its all the additional stuff before and after the day that I will stay away from. I think that is where the extra 10lbs comes into play. The snack trays people bring into work, the loaves of pumpkin and banana bread the neighbor drops off, the pretty miniature chocolates all dressed in their foil Christmas wrapping paper...and oh yes, the endless glasses of eggnog.

:-PI LOVE opening stocking stuffers! I always had a stocking as a kid, but when I became older, I didn't get a stocking anymore. When my husband and I were dating, and decided to get married, he bought me a stocking, and wrote my name on it, hung it on the mantle with his and his sons. I was so excited to have a stocking after all this time. Since then, we've made out own tradition of opening up stocking stuffers after christmas dinner. It's something to look forward to after all the presents have been opened.

:)&I buy stuff all year long and put in a box, then at Christmas sort through it and decide who will get what. There is always lots of things left over and those are what go into the stockings. Everyone gets a real nice variety of strange things that way that is always different!
I then hang them on the ends of thier beds so when they wake in the morning they can enjoy them right away, and I get to sleep a little longer.

I'm not super rich or anything like that. If I want something I usually work it out so that I can buy it. I don't talk on the phone much. When it comes to the radio 90% of what I listen to is underground Hip Hop and they don't play that on commercial radio. 5% percent is Christmas music snd the other 5% is what I block out when my Girlfriend is driving.
