View Full Version : Yes, but do you sell NON pre-lit trees?

I'm trying to find trees online because I have fallen in love with a 7ish foot pistol pine tree at one of the stores here, but it has a €210 price tag. So I wanted to see if online was any cheaper. Is it just me, or are there way more pre-lit trees than regular trees? Where's the fun in that?
Oh well, guess I'll see if it goes on sale a bit. 210 isn't 500 at least, and I want a good artificial tree that'll last me quite a while.

Prelit trees are becoming more and more common due to convenience. I still see plenty of non prelits around though. Go to http://www.treeclassics.com/ or use GOOGLE

Pre-lit are for those with the time to put the extra stuff on a tree. I want completely decorated, themed trees. "Let me have one 1960s pre-decorated tree, please, with a side of eggnog." 8)

I did use google, but only the pre-lit kind came up for the ones I like. :) I did manage to find one at a store anyway, for 35 euros cheaper.

The current conversion rate I believe is 1 Euro to about $1.26.

One online place specializes in unlit trees, www.christmasdepot.com. They aren't cheap, but they do have a good selection so you can see what's out there.
The trouble with the prelit ones is that once the lights start to burn out, they are a BEAR to replace since the lights are wrapped around the branches. You're left with either devoting your life to the task or giving up and buying a new tree. But then, Christmas Depot has an entire page on that issue. http://www.christmasdepot.com/noprelit.php

I struggled with this issue when looking at new trees...I'll probably regret getting a prelit grrrrr

As I've said before, the sight of a pre-lit makes me cringe. Not because they don't look good, but because for a couple years I was doing the decorating for a local pizza place that used to be a movie theater. The place was huge. Someone along the line before me decided on buying mostly pre-lits (except our center piece that was over 40' 8) ). I spent more time dealing with burnt bulbs and entire inoperable strands than I did stringing the big tree.

I dont like pre-lit for the simple reason I dont want to be stuck with the same lights every year. Variety is the spice of life.

I've always liked putting the lights up, too. I agree it can be a hassle, though. Especially if you're like me and just kind of lump the strands together in a bag. You'd think I'd have learned by now, but I guess untangling the lights has become a ritual in and of itself.

If you carefully select the location of your live tree, i.e. the yard of a wealthy person with Christmas spirit, it can come pre-lit!

We talked about a pre-lit tree but my mom loves lots & lots of lights & she doesn't think that the pre-lit ones have enough. We put alot of lights on our tree & cover every single branch with ornaments.....also tinsel one piece at a time lol!  :) :-D

I have 5 cats too & a dog & a bird!
Good thing is we have a door on our living room & that's where we put the tree.....if one of the cats do go in the living room, they usually just lay on the couch!

Mine lay all over the house and they DO climb the Christmas tree. I bought a super duty tree stand last year so it can't tip over.

LOL ours lay wherever too...they never tried to climb the tree they are just curious as to what it is I think lol....but they are pretty good about the decorations in the rest of the house we're talkin from the living room to the bathroom lol :-D

I used to want to invent a Christmas tree that you put up like an umbrella. You would fold it down like an umbrella and put it away.
Today I was in Michael's and I saw the most horrible Christmas trees. They were sparkly pink and sparkly blue. Looked like cotton candy.

I seem to recall a classic Christmas cartoon (like maybe 1940s or earlier) that featured trees like that.

The ones with hinged branches aren't far from being umbrellas at all. The one I bought last year was: plop in stand, fluff, and decorate to my heart's content. Best part was it was super easy to put away and actually fit in the original box.

Thanks for the laugh, I love snorting hot chocolate in the morning. : P
This is the tree, it's a pistol pine. Not a good photo though, and I couldn't find a better one at the moment. http://www.amazingchristmastrees.com/DetailsList.cfm?ID=C-1231
Note mine is not pre-lit, and that it's a mixture of two types of branches. One is the more regular plastic one, and the other (more dominant) is a prickly pine needle kind. At the edge of each branch is an orangy/brown wrapped end. It looks really realisitc, I'm impressed. It's 1,95 m, and was €169 (six and a bit feet, $213 USD - thank you google).
I will take more pictures in a few weeks when it's set up, and both cats will have finished their thorough inspection of the tree and it's box.

I was just joking, but through the years I have learned that if I think of something, someone smarter than I has already made it. Here is a picture and link of a pre-decorated tree:

It wasn't a pop up tree but my parents did have a pre-decorated tree one time. It only looked good that first year and went downhill from there. I was never crazy about the decorations either, they were red and gold and very over-powering.

10-24-2006, 08:48 AM
Pre-decorated, eh? Kinda takes all the fun out of it, doesn't it?
Mary, the tree looks good, though I'm sure the picture doesn't do it justice.

Like cars take the fun out of walking and houses take the fun out of sleeping in the snow. OK, I'm joking and in truth I would never buy one for the home, though I might do it for the office.

Yes I do!! I love this old tree. It is still in really good shape. I don't have a color wheel though, I need to buy one off of eBay but last year I put light around the center pole and they worked pretty well.

we have had to GLUE the color wheel a few times over the years, it is very brittle with age

Does the color wheel add a new dimension to the viewing experience or is it overkill?
Christy Carol

Oh it adds to it, otherwise you wouldnt have any color to it. Its not safe to put lights on it unless you do like sis and wrap them around the pole.
