Target Launches Multi-Faceted Christmas Partnership
With The Salvation Army
Target to kick off partnership with $1 million donation to launch
Target/Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree at Target.com/salvationarmy

MINNEAPOLIS (November 14, 2006) – Target and The Salvation Army kick-off the 2006 Christmas season with a multi-faceted partnership, including the launch of the Target/Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree, an online version of The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program. Target will donate $1,000,000 to support the launch of this new online program, and invite its guests to give to The Salvation Army as well. In addition, Target will support The Salvation Army by donating 100% of proceeds from the sales of a limited edition Harvey Lewis angel ornament accented with red SWAROVSKI crystals.

Target launches a virtual giving tree on Target.com/salvationarmy
On Thursday, November 16 Target will launch the Target/Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree. Target.com visitors will be able to purchase a virtual ornament for any chosen dollar amount to provide new clothing, toys or food to families in need. After purchasing an angel, visitors can then personalize their angels on Target.com/salvationarmy by choosing the angel’s color, wing shape and wing pattern. The Salvation Army will determine how the contributions will be distributed based on needs across the country.

“We share The Salvation Army’s goal of helping those in need everyday and we’re proud to help them expand the reach of their already successful Angel Tree Program with our new online component at Target.com/salvationarmy,” said Laysha Ward, vice president of community relations, Target. “Working together, Target and The Salvation Army will help take giving to new heights this Christmas season through the Angel Giving Tree.”

“This new online campaign at Target.com/salvationarmy will make it even easier for people to support The Salvation Army’s efforts to help people in need,” said Major George A. Hood, National Community Relations and Development Secretary for The Salvation Army. “The Christmas season is an important time for us to collect donations for people in need, and we value Target’s continued partnership and shared goals around this effort.”

Target guests can purchase limited edition angel ornament to benefit The Salvation Army
In addition to the $1,000,000 donation and the Angel Giving Tree, Target will support The Salvation Army with a limited edition Harvey Lewis angel ornament accented with red SWAROVSKI crystals. The angel ornaments are now available for purchase in Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com. Priced at $9.99, 100% of profits will be contributed to The Salvation Army.

Better than nothing. I hope the ornament doesn't suck or I'll have to give it to a friend! :)

A friend from work was saying how he disliked the Salvation Army bell ringers. I told him that even if it was annoying at times, like when you don't have any money, it still was a Christmas tradition that didn't need to go away.

whats wrong with a little bell ringing, its not like you're standing next to them all day

Thats it...the tradition. I recall as a child seeing them standing outside Kmart on the coldest and snowy days ringing the bell.

Yeah, I saw this report. I find it rather ridiculous that the media was ALL OVER Target a couple of years ago when they kicked the bell ringers away from the front of Targets. But they do this and it hardly gets any notice.

I like them, personally, but I do avoid them when I'm broke cause it feels bad not being able to contribute. Or I'll tell them that I'll give on the way out because there's an ATM inside, but I know they think I'm blowing them off till I come back. The bell ringer outside Sams yesterday probably thought I was giving her a chicken because I sat my rotisserie (sp?) chicken down while I cleaned my pockets of change. I had to tell her not to eyeball my chicken. They do sacrifice comfort and I really appreciate it.

That's darn good chicken too..I would have distracted you by pointing off to something in the distance and then snatched the chicken

I always keep tabs on which stores support the Salvation Army. A couple of years back, when Katrina was an issue, Walmart matched Salvation Army contributions up to $1 million. I made sure I dropped my donation there. Oh, and I always write a check and place it in the kettle. That way I get to be more generous than I would be on a cash basis and I get the deduction.
