Have you heard of Gary Hoey?

Me either...well, until a few weeks ago.

I purchased a boatload of Christmas CDs for the radio station and have slowly been converting them over to MP3s. One of the mixed group I got was from this guy Gary Hoey, who plays guitar -- as in ROCK.

He's got a version of "The 12 Days of Christmas" I simply can't get out of my head.

I've found myself searching this dude online and getting everything he's got.

His biggest hit was Frankenstein, an instrumental. That song was good, so I can imagine that his Christmas song is pretty good.

Have you ever heard the Bob Marley rendition of Feliz Navidad?
It's one of my FAVES! Even though it's not much diffrent than Jose's version...

Back in the 70's I got Alvin & the Chipmunks Christmas album, it was so COOL!

Gary Hoey kick started the family 2004 Mistletoe Mix! Good stuff.

I am especially fond of "Little Cajun Drummer Boy" by Evan Johns & His H-Bombs. It's a nice twist on a traditional tune

I like the intro to Nancy Wilson's Carol of the Bells. That is, before she Jazzes-out after the first minute or so.

I've never heard that song.. Nancy Wilson? Is she from Wilson-Phillips? They have a song called 'Hey Santa' that I really love...

Sorry Jingle, Nancy Wilson is jazz out of the post-WWII era to early 60's. She's a female counterpart to the crooners. She also had a Christmas hit with "Happy Holidays." Deep, sultry voice. You might be able to listen to a short clip of some of her songs on Amazon; I'm sure once you hear her voice you'll say "oh yeah, her!"

I would add to the list anything recorded by the Percy Faith Orchestra, "Here Comes Santa Claus" by the Mills Brothers, Nat King Cole doing "The First Noel," and NO ONE can sing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" the way Judy Garland did! It chokes me up just thinking about it.
Elvis doing "Santa Claus is Back in Town" will never be duplicated either!

Well...Please keep in mind that I am from New Jersey...For me, the defining version of "Santa Claus is Coming to town" is by Bruce Springsteen. It came out as I was in high school and it was a particulary good time for me. I remember being at a friends house putting together a newsletter for an organization that we both belonged to and Bruce's version came on the radio, the first time I'd heard it...WNEW, a New York institution. I had a lump in muy throat and a tear in my eye. I haven't heard a version I like as much! So much of our likes and dislikes seem to revolve around our memories and traditions! This song is one of mine!!!

Oh oh! I just heard possibly my favorite rendition of Carol of the Bells. It was in Black Christmas (don't ask >_>) and I scoured the credits looking for the artist. Roger Wagner (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000006WV/ref=wl_it_dp/002-4306681-5952801?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1RERBLQ5ROOAA&colid=8C4V1IVY6SHU) does an EXCELLENT job of the song. It is the best Bells-only version I know (Trans-Siberian's version is also spliced with God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and it's still my overall favorite).

You can scroll down a little on that page to listeno a sample of his work.

I love the song, Carol of the Bells, (I love TSO's Christmas Eve Sarajavo also). One of the best versions of this song that I've heard is by The Calling.

I've heard a rude version of The Night Before Christmas, but I wouldn't post it here!
