Actually, I'd have to go with SC and the guy in my Avatar as my top Santas. They were on TV in a special about the Santa School in Michigan. Rankin/Bass are a close 2nd.

My favorite Santa Claus from TV is the one from "Year Without a Santa Claus". He's so cute and I feel bad when he doesn't feel well.

For the 2nd time tonight I am agreeing with the lady above! I feel so sorry for him when he reads the letter from the little girl who sings "Blue Christmas" His big tear gets me every time.

Edmund Gwenn (?). I think that's right but I'm too lazy to look it up so I'll say that it's the Santa from the original Miracle on 34th Street.

Although I like the way animation has made him look, I've always liked the Coca-Cola Santa Claus. I don't even like Coke...haha. Just when I invision him, that's probably the closest image.
I aso like the Santa from the M&M's commercial!

Mean streak?!? The Santa in Rudolph is a full fledged jerk! He's condescending and judgemental to Rudolph and gets downright nasty to the Elves at elf practice with his cranky "needs work" comment... the only one able to rein him in, it seems, is his wife (by stuffing him full of food)... plus his "we'll have to cancel Christmas" line is priceless. It's all about him! Baby Jesus has nothing to do with the holiday in his world view.
And yet, he's my favorite Santa... with Edmund Gwynn a close second.

Edmund Gwenn in his Oscar-winning performance as Kris Kringle in the original Miracle on 34th Street. Here is a fully rounded character: he can be impatient, querulous, impish, sly, wise, and kind.
