Our "tradition" changes just a bit every year. We always do the same things, but the order is a little different each time, and unfortunately, one of my Grandmothers moved to Florida after my Grandfather passed, and I haven't been able to see her on Christmas in about seven years.

My siblings and I used to sneak down between 12-4 AM Christmas Day to scope the stash and shake the boxes and stuff. Then we'd return very quietly to our one of our rooms upstairs and compare what we got in our stockings. :D

We wait for our kids to wake up, we always seem to be up before them on Christmas. They have a small Christmas tree in their room and Santa leaves one small gift for each under that tree and leaves it plugged in (this is the only time the tree will be on when they wake up). When our daughter wakes up, she sees the tree still on and a gifts under her tree she starts yelling "mommy, daddy Santa came, Santa Came". It's too cute. We go down and open gifts. About 9:30 my dad and his wife will come over for breakfest and exchange gifts. They stay for about 2 hours.
About 1 pm I will go pick up my mom and bring her over for the day. My hubbys mom, brother and sister normally come over between 2-3pm while his Aunt and cousin come over right before dinner. We eat dinner around 5 ish. We have a few friends that stop over through out the day. Some family members start leaving around 7 while others may stay until midnight playing games. Someone always gets a new game for christmas.
Not sure how things will be this year. My mil is getting remarried and moving to Florida as soon as she sells her house. They may come up for Christmas, not sure yet. If they do they will be staying with us. Regardless we will still make the most if it and enjoy it for all it's worth. Can't wait!

When I was little, I used to go to sleep and wake up early around 7ish. This past year I had no problem falling asleep and didn't wake up until sometime after 10am! It was the latest I've ever woken up on Christmas, but I guess even though Christmas is still the best time of the year for me and I get so excited for it, the novelty of waking up early and running out to see presents has worn off as I've grown up. I still love Christmas morning, though. Usually I open gifts and eat a little bit of chocolate from my stocking and then get ready to go to my Grandmothers. One thing I don't like about Christmas in recent years is that my Dad and his girlfriend work at a hospital so you never know when they're going to have to work. Both of them have worked on Christmas before(and Christmas Eve) and it's just awful. Anyway I usually get ready and arrive at my Grandmother's for Christmas breakfast/brunch and open presents. Then my Aunts and Uncles and cousins have to leave to go to other families and I stay at my Grandma's all day just doing Christmassy tings and then everyone comes back and we have a big, nice and formal Christmas dinner. I absolutely adore that!

When we were very young, we were always given my Dad's watch and told we could get up around 4:30AM or 5:00AM. We'd go in, wake up Mom and Dad and then open gifts...far too excited to eat breakfast, Mom and Dad would settle with us eating a homemade cinnamon roll and hot chocolate. Then we'd get our baths, get dressed and start the running. We'd head to my Grandma and Granddad's first and exhange gifts with the family and snack all morning. Then Dad would take our gifts back home, pick up the gifts for the next trip to my Grandma and Charlie's. We'd get there in the early afternoon and have a HUGE meal with so much good food, then while our Mom's cleaned up, they'd shoo us kids off to the upstairs and following the dinner clean-up, the Mom's would join us and we'd exchange gifts and then have dessert. Dad said he always felt a little bad that for the most part, we were gone all day, but after MOm and Dad divorced, we actually didn't run too much.

Once I got out on my own, I'd often pick up my two younger brothers and we'd spend some time with Dad on Christmas Eve afternoon and them see him again on Christmas Day at some point.

These days, we head to Mom's early in the morning and exchange gifts and have a nice breakfast, then head to Dad's a little later in the morning and enjoy snacks with him and exchange gifts, then back to Mom's for a wonderful dinner and some relaxing.

Me and my wife wait for the kids to wake up and then we open all the presents and then we play with all of our new stuff all day and watch Christmas movies all day and then we make a HUGE dinner for the 6 of us and we go to bed later that night.

Christmas day I'm usually up early and try to be a big enough pest to my husband so we can have our Christmas. He isn't into Christmas like I am. But he's learning to like it. My son is in California with his Dad and new family, so I don't see him. My adoptive son (hates Christmas) puts up with my Christmas stuff. This year his wife will spend it away from him and it'll be tough, but dinner will be the same. This year I'm doing a ham and a salmon fillet(s). The neighbors will have a pot luck. Their son works at our local prison and doesn't get Christmas off. Their grandkids will be over and it will be a present opening frenzy. It's all about the kids after all. Their smiles and giggles. It's always fun to see the adult males trying to put all those race car sets together with all those pieces. New traditions are always being made. Or are those memories that we perpetuate?
How I love Christmas. I just wish we would get more snow. See a pattern here.

We like to save the Christams cards we receive from the previous year and then glue them together in a big collage. Then we cut out the shapes of crowns and the family writes down what they got for Christmas that year. We then hang them from strings for the Feast of the Epiphany on Jan 6, when they usually get a little something else from my wife and I. And the following year we can pull out those crowns to remind oursleves what we received as gifts and how blessed we are.

Our Christmas Day starts pretty early, usually around 6:30 am (or whenever I get too annoyed by my DH, staring at me from two inches away from my face, waiting for me to "wake-up" so we can open gifts. ).

My Dh and I get up, turn on the Christmas tree lights, put some coffee on (for Dh), and crank up some Christmas music to listen to while we open our gifts.

Once our gifts are all opened, we usually turn on the 24 hour "A Christmas Story" marathon and get ready to go to my family Christmas gathering. We'll usually go to my mom's, my sister's or my aunt's house, depending upon who is hosting that year (can't wait until we get a big enough place of our own so that we can host a holiday!).

Then, it's more gift opening, lots of food, fun and laughter!
