I really don't care what anyone has to say about Christmas. It's not going to change the way I celebrate and enjoy it.

Last I checked there wasn't a manual that stated you had to spend X amount of $ for someone or even buy a gift for someone. To me they seem closed minded to that fact. The phrase that cracks me up is "holiday shopping is offensive and wasteful". Yeah it can be if YOU make it that way.
I personally don't CAVE in as they say. I give what I feel is the right gift for that person whether it be a store bought gift, a tin of homemade goodies or my time.
Everyone views and celebrates Christmas in their own way and I will continue to do so regardless of what those close minded idiots have to say. I just have one thing to say to those fools....MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It never fails...I bet I could stand on the Corner of 57th Street and Seventh Avenue in New York City handing out hundred dollar bills and some fool, somewhere would find offense in that. I say, if you don't wanna spend, DON'T. If you don't wanna celebrate, DON'T. If you think Christmas is evil, STAY AWAY FROM IT! Why would you need to have a web site for something like this??? Just do what you want to and leave the rest for everyone else!

You don't have to go to Italy for good Italian food. I may be biased, but I think Chicago has some of the best Italian food in the world. Of course, not all of it is what you could really consider to be "authentic" Italian. You know, kind of Americanized.

Christmas' depth is such that if you were to ask a hundred people to describe it, you may get a hundred different responses. On one hand, one can not deny that the origins of the holiday are deeply rooted in Christianity. On the other hand, it is absolutely possible to celebrate the entire season in a secular fashion. Fortunately, we are a group that can appreciate any way the holiday is celebrated regardless of how and by whom it is observed.

Ask me if I think Christmas is a religious holiday or a universal holiday, and I'll say it's a universal holiday.
Let's face it, not everyone who celebrates Christmas is Christian, and not everyone who celebrates Christmas focuses on the birth of Christ (instead they think of the wonderfully lit decorations surrounding them, Santa, Snow, etc.)
Jeff Westover
06-22-2007, 12:54 PM
The easy answer to this is that Christmas is BOTH sacred and secular. Not surprisingly it has ALWAYS been that way. I don't care what century in time you're looking it, Christmas is surrounded with controversy and diverse viewpoints. To say it is purely one or the other would be to agree with the folks who run Christmas Resistance. They seem to think Christmas is all one way.
Clearly it is not.
For many it is religious. And that's great. For others it is not. And that's great, too.
The bigger question is this: what other event draws "believers" and "non-believers" together as good as Christmas?
Nothing else compares, in my view.

That's all well and good, but you can't say it's not a religious holiday. You're not saying anything that everyone doesn't know and hasn't been said a billion times over. I agree that the holiday can be completely and utterly secular to some people. With that being said, you still can't deny that it is and always has been a religious holiday. Just because you choose not to observe that aspect doesn't change it's origin, history, or demographics.

I was just there and the site is up and functional...
Here's a brief excerpt from their homepage:
You know holiday shopping is offensive and wasteful. You know Christmas "wish lists" and "gift exchanges" degrade the concept of giving. You know Christmas marketing is a scam, benefiting manufacturers, stores, and huge corporations, while driving individuals into debt. You know this annual consumer frenzy wreaks havoc on the environment, filling landfills with useless packaging and discarded gifts.
Yet, every year, you cave in and go shopping.
The relentless onslaught of advertising exerts constant pressure. So do the unified bleatings of herds of shoppers, who call you "Scrooge" if you fail to enthusiastically join their ritual orgy of consumption. Friends and family needle you with gift requests, store windows beckon with shiny colorful packages, the same "classic" holiday jingles are piped constantly through every speaker in town.
How can you resist?
Join the Christmas Resistance Movement!

I went to the site and it's amazing that they use the color red in their propaganda. I told my husband about this site and he agrees with their crap. I guess to each their own. So, I told my husband not to buy me anything for Christmas. He suggested that I do the same thing and I told him that I buy presents all throughout the year not just for Christmas. So, he is one of those. But that doesn't stop me from sending out Christmas cards or buy presents for my family or friends or to decorate. I love Christmas and everything it stands for and I will continue to support it. I may not agree on the commercialization of it, but I do love Christmas.

It just tells me that they've never seen Christmas beyond the sales, the crowds and the money of it. Ask my kids what they got for Christmas 3 years ago and they won't be able to tell you. But ask them what they DID and what it MEANT to them and I guarantee you'll get an answer.
This site is offensive because it takes the elitist view that people are mere sheep -- that we're controlled into observing a day in one way merely because we respond to sales ads. Hogwash.

I agree with you on that comment that most of the people are just sheep, being lead around by a wolf and not being protected like they should be. It's not just Christmas however, it's in everything. Most of the politicians in the new power are just like that. Unfortunately, money corrupts as we all know and the true idea that they went into politics has been corrupted. But most of us aren't sheep, and we believe in love and kindness and not buying into the hype and propaganda they want to throw at us.

Beautifully put. There is a church by us that takes donations in support for Christmas and they are giving out signs which say "Keep Christ in Christmas." My husband and I are doing what we can to stand up for our beliefs. We are thinking of making bumper stickers that say "I believe in Christmas" and hand them out to people. I am all about Christmas.

I tried to get on the site and its dead, theres nothing there!!
Fine by me! I think that you should always celebrate the positives in life, why focus on materialism? Its something no one can control. It is in fact a year round thing--the commercialism is, I will admit, alot more prevalant during the Christmas season, BUT HONESTLY! WHy attack the people who would be celebrating no matter how much decoration they hung in the mall? Why attack the people who celebrate the season for the sheer joy it brings them? Who are these people to call me a sheep? Who are they to tell me I "cave in"? No one thats who!! I celebrate Christmas because it is in my heart to do so. I celebrate with my family because of the joy, the love, the feelings, the happiness it brings into my home, my heart and my life. as for other traditions and holidays, We always celebrate the first night of Kwanzaa and Hanakuah--I try to teach my children to respect the Reason for Christmas, they know that its not all about presents and fancy lights. They also know alot about the festivals and Holidays of other cultures and faith--In fact we will be studying Ramadan which begins in a few short weeks. How can we teach out children to respect others and to stay true and honest to that which we believe in, if people are out there writing crap, pure crap about the people who celebrate christmas??!!
Im sorry this is so long, BUt honestly!! The person responsible for that website has nothing better to do then make rude remarks about other people? If you have the time and money to make such a website--why not make it for good use? Raise money to feed the less fortunate, or collect jackets and winter clothes and such for those who cant afford to be "sheep" how about starting a collection point for Toys for Tots??? There are a million and one things that person can be doing to make the world a better place, but instead he/she will sit there and B*tch about christmas shoppers??
Lets get one thing straight, We are all here for the mere fact we enjoy this season, and each other. Now I dont know about you, but I aint no sheep, and No one has the right to call me one.
whew! sorry its sooo long!!:snowball:

Its only as comercialized as you let it be.
I love Christmas for what it is, the true meaning. The birth of Christ and the traditions I can make with my children. Its just a special time of year that I think people that dont enjoy Christmas really have some other serious issues. Let me enjoy it :D

I agree with you Billy no person can change the way I feel about Christmas it is a celebration of life. I guess maybe I do not understand the attack on Christmas people should not have a problem with reliogion I find the way people celebrate there beliefs interesting I have no negative feelings I just do not understand how anybody can be negative towards Christmas like you see in the news my biggest fear is that my kids will be celebrating Christmas in the basement without any outward displays I do not want this to happen so I feel people need to pull together and take a stand. I felt like I had to share this, this is something I feel deeply about I have always been passionate about Christmas.

I don’t see how Xmas is getting too commercialized, its on an individual by individual basis on how commercialized they make it and how they wanna decorate for it, if anything I think people are going out more during the holidays than years ago because they enjoy it so much and so many great decorations get relapsed every year, who cares why they enjoy it?
As far as its "true" meaning, again it means something different to everyone. Its true meaning is a religious aspect to some and to others its not at all and is celebrated as a winter holiday, the Solstice tradition.
