I think you'd probably like all of them. If you are looking for laughs watch Christmas Vacation or Santa Clause 2 BUT....if you are looking to up your Christmas Spirit....choose Polar Express.

I didn't like the second Santa Clause nearly as much as the first one. National Lampoon was great. I've not seen Polar Express yet. Yesterday I was thinking how much I'd love to watch A Christmas Story. Alas, I haven't got a copy of it.

You are deprived. Polar Express is spectacular, and I must insist that you get the special edition of A Christmas Story ASAP. It's so cheap, there's no reason not to.

I just scoped out eBay for you. There are a few of them on there that can be had for about $20 to your door. If you go that route, make sure that the seller ships internationally before you buy.

I have to deal with something called Regions. North American videos don't work over here unless you have the right equipment. Kev modified the XBox so it will play Region 1 (N.American) dvds as well as Region 2 (European). I'll check Amazon UK or Play.com.

Thanks for letting me know there's a special Christmas Story release out!

I didn't even think about that. If it's a problem you have to deal with regularly, maybe you could look into buying a really cheap DVD player from the States.

Then you have to have something called a stepdown. Its a thing that you plug your N.American gizmos into, then you plug the stepdown into the UK socket. The voltage is different and so are the plugs and your little travel adaptor isn't going to be sufficient.

Its not a problem. Hubby is a software engineer so he's au fait with all that stuff. If you have a copy of NBA Live 2001, he was on the programming team.

He's modified the XBox so he could play N.American versions of video games. And the thing doubles as dvd player, as does the XBox 360. Though he can't modify that or something bad happens. Don't ask me what. My mind sorta glazes over when he gets started on that stuff. He claims the UK versions are often crap. I don't understand why. I just nod and say "yes dear" a lot.

Something else that never crossed my mind. :-? Oh well, you can always get a region free DVD player or possibly "crack" the one you have.

I have to confess, I don't really care for the National Lampoon movies, not even Christmas Vacation. I can watch it, but it's not in my rotation.

Yep! Usually. If not, we can watch Region 1 dvds via the XBox.

I actually did a little searching on that yesterday and couldn't find anything for a region 2 Christmas Story at all. Even Amazon.uk was selling a region 1.

thats one thing i dont understand about the movie business, why doesnt everybody get the same thing? If you release a version of a movie why not release a version for everyone. personally i think region coding is stupid

It's supposed to inhibit copyright infringement. International bootlegging is a huge problem.

We should start a topic entitled "Just ask Dom" or something to that effect, where people can just ask you random questions...

it doesnt seem to be helping

It's an uphill battle. Many of the bootleggers are in countries that are less than friendly with the United States, where most of the prosecution is being pursued. Not only is it a threat to the movie industry, the profits from these illegal copies are funding nefarious activities that threaten the lives of our soldiers and even the citizens of our country.
