eeeweow! Coffee-Peach blend? My lips are curling!
Good Morning - Monday, Monday....Bah-da-ba-da-da-da..
What an Opera! Great work Bing!! I can't get that song out of my head, "3 Coins in a Fountain"...my mom, who loved to sing and had a lovely voice, used to sing all the pop-hits to me; instead of story telling before a nap, she would sing to me. My favorites: "Que Sera, Sera" (Whatever will be, will be) and "Mr. Sandman"...but 3 Coins in a Fountain, I can hear her voice now...."Make it Mine, Make it Mine, Make it Mine!"
Where is JAY?
Have a Monday everyone!

Hello Everyone! I used to post over on Christmas.com as 'snowangel' before the old site went down and have finally found my way back home. It's wonderful to see so many familiar names here, and the countdown in all it's glory! And on a christmassy note, I saw my first Christmas cards of this season on sale here in England today, in my local newsagents, along with a display of Halloween related goodies. It's coming ....

Boy it was another hot one today 103, it was hard to take when I was trying to find Christmas items. Did find a few though and was all excited. Came across an idea for Chocolate dipped spoons for coffee. After dipping them in chocolate then you dip them into crushed candy canes. Suppose to be yummy. They sure are pretty. Gonna try that one. I have done the ones with chocolate and cinnamon which is pretty good but this one sounds better. I am going to make a bunch of different types of dipped spoons and wrap them in clear plastic and put them into deep Christmas mugs and give to the coffee hounds on my list. Those always go over pretty good.
Anyway, I found out today that Walmart and Lowes are starting to put out Christmas things, well they have them in the isles in the boxes. They aren't on the shelves yet but getting close. Isn't that a milestone. lol. Christmas is getting closer. wahoooooooo.

You bet, Renn!
Our Crabtree Valley Mall will start full-scale Christmas decorating in about 5 weeks!
63 days to the Season
105 days to Christmas Day.
It hit 101 in Raleigh yesterday (unusual for September around here) but cooler weather is just around the corner.
"Gabrielle" paid a brief, wet visit at our coast and moved on.
Have a Terrific Tuesday, my fellow Christmas comrades.
Oh, Clark. The coffee-sleep jokes have been running between Binger and me ever since 2 websites ago back at Christmas.Com.
It's a.....well.....long story.
Feel free to pick a side and join in!

Dancing Boy, reporting for duty...Oh my aching feet...What a crazy few weeks I've had...I feel like I've been going one hundred miles an hour for a month now...Hopefully things will calm down a bit cause I'm gettin' tired...The stress is beginning to wear on me as well...I'm usually much more relaxed than this...
Five weeks till they decorate Crown? How cool is that? I can't wait!!! The Downside is that it's at this time of year that time REALLY flies....And, at least for me, it's been a really fast year already...It'll be February in about an hour and a half.
A big, fat hello to all those new, and all those old, and all those in between...I've been neglecting my posting lately bacause everything else seems so overly busy...I'd rather be doing this than just about everything else but life does what life does...

Five weeks till they decorate Crown? How cool is that? I can't wait!!!
That's right, Jay.
As the years have gone by, they have started decorating earlier and earlier. Now, they are in "full dress" well before Halloween.
Since they hold trick-or-treating in the mall, it's a little odd to see all the kids in their spooky costumes walking around among Christmas decorations!
JayIsh
09-11-2007, 10:30 AM
In as much as I love Christmas Decorations, I do wish they'd wait until at least after Halloween to place them. I really enjoy the fall/Halloween decorations too, it's a shame to miss out on them in order to rush the next holiday's decor. But I guess there is nothing like seeing the Christmas decorations for the first time in almost a year...Warms your heart, fills you with enthusiasm and excitement...Even if it is a little early...

Yes, Cedar. They say the same thing here. We could be down into the 40's for lows early next week.
The high today is supposed to be in the 80's - a welcome change from all the heat records we have been setting.
This summer has seen more 90+ days than any since record keeping began in Raleigh. Whew!
(It's been hot enough to perk coffee on the car hoods - as Binger has no doubt tried.)
62 days to the Season
104 days to Christmas Day. (Look how close to double-digits!)
Well, we are indeed back to Hump Day. I hope everyone has a Happy one --- and a Wonderful Wednesday to boot.
It's a downhill coast to the weekend, now!

Did you know that John Lennon was said to consume between 40 and 60 cups of coffee per day? Supposedly it is true, but who really knows...(Yoko I guess...)
Coffee, Clark my fine fellow, is the elixir of the Gods. Black Gold, Texas Tea, as it were. The consumption of said brew will brighten the day of the gloomiest fellow, change the attitude of even the grumpiest of Dwarves and cause the hands to shake, of the finest surgeons. It is, in fact, the reason for Christmas, although that is a story that I have yet to make up...
Napping, also high on my list, is what makes a man, a man. Thomas Edison, Abraham Lincoln, Ashley (the little girl who lives up the street from me...) all nappers and all very sucessful! Coffee, however, gets in the way of napping...And, while napping it is very difficult to drink coffee...Just thought I'd iron that out...

Love your percolator, I would love to get me one. Oh well a little steep for me will have to settle for my ole bunn. Aw but it brews fast so can have it fresh brewed every other cup. awwwwwwwwwwwww. Makes 10 cups but then I have a big cup. Dh uses smaller mugs so I get more of the coffee. hee
Weather wasn't quite so hot today, 93. Tomorrow, hot, next day hot, next day a chance of rain. Well believe that when i see it or should I say when i feel it.

One minute a small tropical depression - the next, a hurricane.
61 days to the Season
103 days to Christmas Day.

Thanks Casey, glad to be here. I think we all goof and double post at one time or another.
Has been a nice day today weather wise. Had clouds all day long so was coollllllllllllll.
The 23rd I am going for a nice long walk on the beach and throw all my worries into the wind and let the sea air take them away. lol When I am walking on the beach I do lots of thinking and come up with my best ideas. Will think about my Christmas decorating and see what I come up with. I haven't gotten to walk the beach for a couple years now, is going to be enjoyable.
I wonder if they are setting the lights out at Shore Acre gardens yet. They have a beautiful display there every year. Will have to go and check that out also. They wont have it lite up as of yet, but I know some of the people that used to set them out and would be nice to see them again.

Well, it was back in the 90's again yesterday despite the weather service promise of cooler weather. Oh, well, let's try again today.

And speaking of camels, does Carl have a brother named Joe who has a nasty smokers hack? And another thing...if he comes and stays with you do you get to pick and choose who he spits at? Cause I got a neighbor that's...well...nevermind...
Didja ever wonder why we park on driveways and drive on parkways?

59 days to the Season
101 days to Christmas Day.
(The 100-day window tomorrow. WOW!)
A nice 71 outside here in Raleigh at this hour.
We had a REAL nice soaking rain last night.
I'm sure that at least put a dent in the drought.
Ah! the good old Captain. I saw him here in Raleigh about 10 years ago at a book signing.

I not only remember Romper Room...I was ON Romper Room!! I won a coloring contest (3 cities entered!) and the prize was a colossal Jungle Gym, not the wooden kind but the classic steel one. My entire family drove up to Lansing and sat in the audience when I was on the show. I don't remember "Miss so & so's name...Miss Sally? I think I froze up when the bright lights hit me but I managed a weak hello to "Mom & Dad". Yes, the Do-Be song..do this, don't do that...When my Jungle Gym got delivered, every kid in the neighborhood was there!
Remember swinging so high on those swings that you felt the entire swing-set lift into the air? And going around and around and around on those Monkey Bars...OMG.

Wow, Cedar - you lucky puppy!
My understanding is that Romper Room was sort of "franchised", with each local station having its own teacher. Those shows would be telecast only in that geographical area.
Other cites would see their own local teacher on the show.
"I always do what's right.
I never do anything wrong.
I'm a Romper Room Do-Bee -
a Do-Bee all day long!"
(I still remember that after all these years. Did not have to Google it!)

That's cool you were on the show Cedar.
As for your coffee query, Crown - I'm thinking Nescafe.
I gave my cousin a birthday card a few years back that had the following lyrics on the front:
"Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never find that recipe again"
And inside it said: "if you are old enough to remember that song, face it you're old."

Our families would miss us if we all lived close enough for real visits...And we'd end up tossed out of every Starbucks we visited due to our raucus, celebratory behavior! I'm sipping java myself at the moment, remnants of the day's first pot. Almost ready to brew the second, gosh we're behind today...Must be cause I slept till almost ten...a very, very rare occurence for me. The day holds apple picking, fall festivals, mums, cider doughnuts, angry bees and good friends...A day sent from heaven...Somebody put the brakes on for a week or two, slow down time, make it last I want it to be three months till Christmas but I'd like it to take five to get here...Make any sense?
Cedar! Ya got any of those really cool fall photos you are famous for to share with our new friends here? I have one of a cat on a farm trailer full of pumpkins that I love...Let's call Cedar Ansel from now on!!! So? Ansel? Anything on the horizon? How about a coffee table book? Ok...How about just the coffee?
Binger? I'm at our table and you are suprisingly absent...Of course that may be due to the fact that I'm not sure who I'm looking for...Male...female...young...old...no clue...You could be sitting right next to me and I would not know it...Perhaps when we see Bruce? :hello: I've got Christmas, my husband has his sports.
cheesy I don't know if other sports fans do the same thing, but it's like my husband is watching a spooky movie.
He's either on the edge of his seat, jumping up or peaking through his fingers saying, "I can't look" - but he peaks.
When I'm prancing around the forums reading and spreading Christmas cheer, I'm not peaking through my fingers, I'm not jumping up in the air or sitting on the edge of my seat - I almost fell over laughing once or twice - but that's not the same thing . . .
I think Christmas is far more relaxing than sports and I propose we endeavour to keep Christmas as the most pleasant of all leisure activities.

:)) Guess I missed you, Jay - I'd know you by sight. Thing is my friend with the Snowbirds was only going for java so I couldn't wait around for y'all to show up.
Question for JayIsh . . .
I was wondering if Bugs Bunny was from Joirsey, it seems to me he talks the same as you. Just wondered if you ever met him? He's a wascally wabbit, I'm told.
 I don't know why, but that question was on my mind all day.

Good Evening Everyone !
Just finished a great afternoon/evening with some of my old High School freinds. (I haven't been around much because we've been getting ready for today.) Of course the guys all end up talking football and cars (old cars, not these new things), and Mrs.Eagle and the girls all are in another room talking about . . . . something or other. Then we all got together in the backyard and talked about old times . . . . . . like when we were young. It was a great time. Yours trully was on the grills ( Weber X2 ). Lots of food, lots of drink, and lots of good company. Only decaf was served (medical reasons), but good coffee is always good coffee.
The toasts were simply: " To absent freinds" and "To those who serve, may God watch over them."
I am trully blessed to have such good friends here at home and here on the boards.
On that thought I depart. I think I'll clean up tomorrow.
I think I'll be changing my signature line to read Warm instead of cool, pretty some . . . .

GOOD MORNING!!!
~Had an emergency at the ol' homestead last Sunday..just before coming in for the evening. My wire fox terrier, "BIX", had a freak accident...he got impaled by a hook when he ran (ALWAYS running) under a hay wagon left here by the farmer who rents our hay field. Scrappy and very impulsive, these little terriers are unbreakable...but I found him lying on his side next to the wagon with a deep gash. A race against the clock to find emergency care on Sunday evening....but we did and stayed up most of the night waiting for the surgery results. He made it through without problems, but ohhh, it scary. That's him in my avatar, he is my little muffin cake and I'm way too attached to him!!

Was fun at Penneys today, we have a lot of Christmas things out and people kept coming up talking about it and one lady said she was soooooooooooo ready for Christmas and we got into a discussion about Christmas and then others started chatting about it. The conversation went from one customer to the next was kind of cool. That conversation lasted about 45 minutes and about 25 or so customers. Even the customers that other cashiers were waiting on got in on the conversation. There are a lot of us out there, just most don't talk about it cause they are afraid what others are going to say to them. Not me I could care less.

If I get the chance, will try to give the program a look.
I saw his series on jazz music a while ago and was a bit disappointed that so many of the Big-Band greats were barely mentioned while just a few, such as Ellington, Basie and Armstrong were done to death.
I realize that jazz originated in the African-American community but felt he gave the white bands short shrift.

You know I'm working on something. Must check calender to make sure I'm in town for the special posting moment.
. . . speaking of Fall . . . I sure hope the pictures I took of my Dragon Tree turn out so I can share them. There was a tree, it was rather splendid until the microburst in July 2006 when it became half a tree and I watched it over the winter and I watched it try and pretend it was a tree and then toward's August of this summer, it began taking on a strange appearance. Beautiful leaves on the tree were dancing in the gentle breeze and I said, "that tree has more character than many people I know". My husband only laughed. I notice the weekend before last that it's leaves were beginning to turn. With a bit more rain, they turned quickly and are a deep red - almost old-fashioned Christmas burgundy. The tree still has some green leaves on it and because of the damage it received it has taken on the shape of a dragon. Really - you'll see.
NO - Binger, there's nothing strange in my java - it really looks like a dragon. I love that tree.

Good Morning Everyone !!!
49 days ???? Wow, that's great.
It's too warm here, and humid too. Where's fall??? I'm only just begining to see the leaves changing.
I was at a training school and during a break, in the corner of a room filled with rough looking guys was this guy telling the others how he and his wife were going to celebrate Christmas this year with their 3 small children. It was sooooo quiet. Everyone was listening. It brought some of us older guys back to another time . . . . . .
Suggested listening for today: Singers Unlimited - While By My Sheep
Have a GREAT day.
Thanks, I could go for a little a - cappalla right about now.
While by my sheep I watched at night,
Glad tidings brought an angel bright . . .
:hello:I love it when I hear other people talking about Christmas early in the year, I go on and on all year of course, so it's nice to sit back and listen when someone else is getting exciting about it.

Our fall weather here is getting pretty spectacular right now. Even though its just starting.. On the drive over to the coast for my sons wedding the trees in the mountains were changing the most brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows, they were great. I love this time of the year, not only because of the fall colors but it also means Christmas isn't far behind. Yaaaaaaaaaaah

48 days to the Season.
90 days to Christmas Day.
Good Morning, all.
Another nice morning here in Raleigh with clear skies and temps in the mid-60's.
It's still getting rather warm in the afternoon, but not bad. The humidity is not too high.
We've been lucky with the hurricanes so far this year. Keep your fingers crossed.

Hey Renn! Yo Auntie!! So good to see you....
Auntie, I can't wait to see your "Dragon Tree"!! I have always loved trees, with a special fondness for evergreens...as in, Tannenbaum O Tannenbaum...I just checked out a library book; "Remarkable Trees of the World", by Thomas Pakenham..good book to look at before bedtime, nothing better than a tree dream...(even though last night I dreamt of clowns hiding in the garage...why? why? oh, why?)
ENJOY your Wednesday, it only comes but once a week you know!! As Bob Dylan would say,..........well, he would say something I'm sure.

Helloooooooo Cedar!!! Hellooooooooo Auntie!!! Helloooooooo Crown!!! Helloooooooo Binger!!!
Crazy, crazy week...Is this the new normal? I'm practically bouncing off the walls! I love trees too!!! Nuttin' better than a big old evergreen on a windy day shispering comfort to you as you lay in a hammock!!! Not that I've laid in the hammock more than five minutes at a time this summer...and then it was only to stretch it out so the visiting children could get into it...Whose big idea was it to have phones, beepers, cell phones, fax machines emails and regular mail? Are we that in need of communication that we need twenty three different methods??? Ya never get a moments peace!!! Thank God for friends that call and write...Cause if I had to just deal with all this other junk I'd go insane! Well...more insane...

Good Morning Everyone !!
Happy Friday to all. I'm off on Monday, but weekends are still nice. I get to see everyone else, and still have a day to get my chores done. Monday will be "close the pool" day. Now that two of my sons are out of the house, there is just my son Jon Eagle, Mrs.Eagle, and I to do the job. Maybe I'll invite Grandma Eagle over. It's a 16X32ft pool , so the extra pair of hands would be welcome.
We are getting into the high 40's at night. I thought of making hot chocolate when I got home last night (2300hrs), but just the smell would wake up Mrs.Eagle, and she has to get up early . . . . . . Maybe tonight (she's off tomorrow). Hmmmm. 50 degrees is cold enough for hot chocolate, right ???
Martha K - Yes I can. I remember when Mrs. Eagle finished her finals, and it was all over except "The Walk" (across the stage to get the diploma). She dropped her books and papers at the door and she danced. Congrats to you !!! Turn the music up, and dance . . . . . . . . . . dance like nobody is looking !

Took a lovely drive to see the Autumn leaves. Had a moment of Christmas weakness when I nearly jumped out of the car to buy a farm - thought having a Christmas tree farm might be fun! There was no "for sale" sign anywhere to be seen so my husband stopped me from causing a scene.
Back to Fall leaves. Oh yesssss beautiful colours. Roll the windows down smell the earth feel the crispness in the air - lovely. What's that smell? "Drive faster dear, it's spoiling my tranquility."
My poor husband, sure has to put up with a lot just to go for a drive.
If that wasn't enough, I got him to stop at the Mexican Restaurant we were going to have supper at so I could grab a menu and have a look over it at home in the afternoon. I need time to decide what I want.
He thought I'd come out with a photocopy, but I returned with a full coloured-plasticized dinner menu. I told him that I explained I needed time to think it over and the hostess handed to me.
Truth is, I know the owner. I forgot who owned it until I saw her standing there. So we went back later on for dinner and I brought the menu with me.
A different hostess was "on" and she said, "oh you have your own copy of the menu?" I could tell from her reaction that this was not an everyday occurrence.
We were seated and she left us for a moment likely to find out who I was. She returned with our water and we promptly placed our order. I explained that it was handy to have early access so I could decide what to eat. She said, "I know, Susan told me". So she walked away and my husband said, "who?" So then the "cat was out of the bag" and I had to come clean that we knew the owner.
She came over to the table to check on us. She only met my husband twice before.
It was good food, but I realized I'm getting too old to eat spicy food. It brings on instant hot flashes.
:hello: Well, that was a long-winded (so what) story wasn't it?
So what's on the agenda for tomorrow? Another drive perhaps to grab a few pics this time - yup I forgot the camera. If it warms up a bit, we can go for a hike.
 Nice job with the count there, Cedar!

:-? I want to lodge a complaint with the shispering pine management.
You see, I was minding my own business today - as always - when suddenly a song started playing in my brain . . . the song was from Paint Your Wagon, but the version playing in my head was from the Smothers Brothers' version.
"I talk to the trees
But they don't listen to me
I talk to the stars
But they never hear me
The breeze hasn't time
To stop and hear what I say
I talk to them all in vain"
. . . then suddenly the shispering pines sang a song to me . . . what are the words? They sound quite Christmassy . . .
 Anyone got a remedy for me, I'm suffering a terrible dose of song flu.

:hello: Thanks for putting the old mind at ease there, Crown. Yes indeed our ceremonial posts bring us into the season itself. So I'll have to wait closer to Nov. 13th to share my thoughts.
Not all thoughts have to wait.
I was thinking this morning "why is Kool-Aid song playing in my head". Then it dawned on me, it's so warm here, it feels like summer. Oh yeah! Our temps pretty much matched those JayIsh and Iron Eagle have been experiencing. Although it is starting to get darker earlier and more leaves are welcoming Fall with new shades of red, orange, yellow, burgundy, etc. And then of course there are the pine & cedar trees growing along the creek too and they are staying green of course.
I noticed another tree coming home yesterday from work. I was shocked by what had happened to it. It is half-dead, but still trying to hang on. It's mostly trunk and branches with a few leaves in clumps in a few places and some totally bare branches. What shocked me was the burgundy-red-brown colours running up and around the trunk. I didn't notice it before, maybe it grew that way after our brief rainfall. Some kind of choke weed is growing up the trunk like vines adding colour to the old tree.
Guess I better snap a photo of that too before it's too late.
And the Dragon Tree photo and a few beautiful Fall images will be revealed soon.
Stay tuned to the same Christmas/Fall channel, folks!
I picked up a few more small Christmas presents tonight after work. Strangest thing, my husband suggested I do it.
Hey, our Wal-Mart has a selection of Christmas Cards, some Christmas trees and two Christmas Black Bear door greeters. It's not much, but it's a start.
I don't think I'll get a chance to chat and catch up again until late Monday night.

Our annual state fair begins a week from today - something we never miss - the lights!, the displays!, the food!, the mattresses! (Uh, well, actually no mattresses).
Have a Fabulous Friday, Friends!
And a Wonderous Weekend to boot!

Ok now I am jealous!!!!
I want snow!!! Like everyone else it is warm and humid and forecasted to get even hotter, pushing 90 by Monday. YUCK! YUCK! and more YUCK!
I had to put the air back on, can't handle this humidty.
I miss having a fireplace. We had a wood burning one in our first house but this house does not have one. Oh well, we will be selling this house come spring anyway. My mom just moved in with us due to health problems. We only have a 3 bedroom house, now need to get a 4 bedroom house but I REFUSE to pack and move during the holidays. Hopefully we can find one with a fireplace if not we will add one!!!!

They're good fried, but even better fired.
Think I'll eat mine under the shispering pines!
38 days to the Season.
80 days to Christmas Day.
1 day to the 90% Home Stretch mark. (Unbelievable! Only 10% of the journey back to the season left to go. How could the time pass so quickly? Then again, time passes fast when you are asleep!)
As if on cue for the home stretch, our annual Christmas store, "A Christmas To Remember" has opened at Crabtree Mall!
And full mall decorations should be up in 2 weeks.
Wish this site allowed photo posting. I would take some.
Seventy-Two in Raleigh at this hour.
We had light rain yesterday and more is predicted for today.
Then back in the 90's again for Sunday and Monday.
Hey! It's too late for weather that warm. We need to start gearing up mentally for the Christmas Season!
Have a Stupendous Saturday, everyone!
I hope your weekend is off to a great start.

Good Evening Everyone.
I took a nap before going to work today. When I woke up it was about 86 degrees and very humid. I had to stop and check, for a moment there I thought I slept past Christmas and into July. That was a strange feeling. I had to get a REALLY BIG cup of coffee to feel better.
Hurry Fall !!!

WOW! Ninety percent of the way back to our Season!
Enjoy the coast on down to Day 1, now barely over a month away!
Awesome!
Again, 72 degrees here in Raleigh.
The sun is shining, the birds are sining, dogs are barking, pines are shispering, twinkies are firing, camels are coffee brewing.
We had 82 for a high yesterday. A bit humid but not too bad - not like the summer.
Have a Super Sunday, my friends and fellow Christmas fiends.

Good Evening Everyone !
Shispering pines and fired twinkies, sounds good to me. If we just could get the weather right. It was in the 80s today, and yes Binger I also had the A/C on today.
Annette1990 - 40 degrees is a little warm for me, some like it cold I like it REALLY cold. Or at least 22 degrees ( for lots of snow ). I used to wait for "snow days" when the kids would be off, it gave me an excuse to hang out with my sons (3).
Song for today: David Arkenstone - Magical Christmas - 01 - We three kings

36 days to the Season.
78 days to Christmas Day.
Good Morning!
I hope everyone is hale and hearty as we move along through that final, home stretch to the Christmas Season.
Sixty-Eight this morning when I left for the office.
But, temps in the 90's yesterday, today and predicted again for tomorrow, just do not feel October-like.
Oh, well. I know true fall weather is not far off.
......And the State Fair starts this Friday! Can't wait for one of those fired twinkies!
That clever camel thought of a way to get into the fair free.
Volunteered to work helping to set up tents. They attach ropes to his humps and all he has to do is walk, pulling up the tent poles. And all the fired twinkies he can eat! (It's a camel's lfe.)
Have a Marvelous Monday, fellow Christmas-aholics!

Good Evening Everyone.
Mid 80s here, but at least some of the trees have begun to change . . . . . a leaf of two. This has been a long year in the Eagle household. I'm so looking forward to the season change. I'm even going to change my signature today, to "stay warm", just to welcome any change we may get.
I think I'll have dinner tonight in the backfield, where the shispering winds blow a light snow across the hills in my mind.

Whew! Hot here in Raleigh, too.
We set a record high of 93 yesterday and are supposed to be back in the 90's again today.
However, by this weekend, they say highs only in the 60's.
Just like Oz, the weather can change so quickly around here.
35 days to the Season.
77 days to Christmas Day.
Have a Terrific Tuesday, fellow travelers.
