:hello: And we're already on page 101 - like the Dalmatians - only more Christmassy.

Sounds like a nice antique spot you went to Cedar. I'm planning on taking part in our local Downtown Christmas Walk (only get downtown about four times a year and this is one of them - the Mall is closer and indoors - can you believe it). The walk is fun, stores have items on sale, the Town Crier, the Mayor and his wife, Mr. & Mrs. Claus arrive by a horse-drawn-sleigh (we're not allowed to keep reindeer in our barns here - go figure) and the Town Crier reads a proclamation - something to do with Christmas - I'll listen to what he says this year - and then the someone special lights the huge Christmas Tree and carollers begin to sing and everyone claps and says "awwwh" about the pretty tree. Hot cider, hot cocoa, a sampling of sweets here and there, sleigh rides up and down Main street if you want to wait in line or you can sing with the old guy at the end of the street who didn't have time to get back up vocals or join a choir or carolling group. I hope it's nice weather. I think it's on the 23rd of Nov.
The next day is my favourite day of the season next to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day itself, when the wee awe-struck children return from the Santa Claus Express.
A few weekends later, I hope my dad will take me an hour drive away to the Parade of Lights. We were supposed to go last year, but there was a nasty snow storm so we had to pass on it. I'll take my camera.

Geesh - I can really go on sometimes, eh? Guess I'm getting excited for the official start of the season.
And it sounds like I'm still on Day 1 - Nov. 12th - right?

Crown - I think we should post our special Four Day Posts right here so everyone knows where to find them.
Binger, Crown, Jay, eh moi:
There's a character limit though so you might have to split up your posts if they're extra wordy.

The only time I had to split up a post (if you can believe it) is when I answered the Christmas Quiz about all the favourite things and such.

Happy Monday to all and to all a Happy Monday!

Hmm.... Wonder why that passage reminds me of the flagpole scene in "A Christmas Story"?

Good Morning, guys!

7 days to the Season.
49 days to Christmas Day.
Gee, look how close we are getting!

Auntie votes to place the 4 pre-season special posts in this thread. What does everyone think? I'm good with that.

Thanks for pushing us to 1,000 thread posts, Bing.

Binger, my friend, I DEFINITELY plan on being here late on the 12th to count the final minutes to the Season commencement. Wouldn't miss it!
Might have to - shudder - drink some of your coffee (or worse yet, some of Carl's) to stay awake, but I'll make it.

Have a Terrific Tuesday, friends!

Good Morning Pals!

I felt the snow last night when I went on a "chick-check" one last time...I saw the sideways snow in front of the lantern...I think I yelled Whooppee!.. or something like it. More like little ice pellets hitting my face...I love looking at the house with the lights on, while I trudge back...knowing I'll soon be safe and warm inside. Like knowing you have friends you care about, and they care about you.

Jay~I can't wait until you smell that first semi load of pines, shispering down the highway...let us know!

Have a tremendous day my friends..and Crown, I Double Dog Dare You! Heehee

Good Jolly A.M. to all of you! ~ Hi Clarebear! Very chilly here also..working on my 2nd cup of joe so I'm starting to get some feeling in my fingers.

Crown, I would never attempt to use the TRIPLE DOG DARE on you, <shudder> !!!! You know the automatically means you have to go stick your tongue on your windshield this morning.

And Bingster, you deserved all 10's...we all know that. Those judges are in the back pocket of the giant five "S"s Mattress conglomerate... Stearns, Sealy, Simmons, Serta, Stearns & Foster..as you know they represent our Triple Crown leader!

Hey! Have a Great One!!!!

Here, Cedar!
I've just been busy at the office this morning.

6 days to the Season. (Under a week!!)
48 days to Christmas Day.

Cold this morning. My thermometer read 34. Ice on the car.
BRRRRRR! (But oh, so seasonal!)

Welcome Elf.
I had a similar problem with my screen name back at Christmas.com years ago. Started out as "Crown 85" (my car is a 1985 Crown Vic) but when the board went down for a few months then came back, it would not let me in as Crown 85.
Had to back off a digit to "Crown 84", and so I remain.

Looking forward to our final Season countdown on the 12th!

Now, I have a problem for our Christmas Eve countdown.
We always stay at my father's place then and for some reason his computer will not allow me to post to this board!
I can get the site up and read everything but when I enter a post I get a message saying I have not entered enough characters and need to make the message longer(??).
I get this message no matter how long a post I type.
Any ideas as to what could be happening?

Have a Wonderful Wednesday / Happy Hump Day, comrades.

Good Morning Everyone !!!

A short post today. I've been given the "OK" from Mrs.Eagle to start putting up the Christmas lights. So, a bowl of oatmeal, 2 cups of coffee and I'm out the door. I was just thinking how appropriate it would be to stop in here first.

It's 35 degrees, and trying to go to 40.

The song in the background is: Enya - Silent Night

47 days to Christmas Day.

Another cold 34 degree reading this morning at my place.
(Have started putting a sheet over my windshield to keep off the frost and avoid scraping in the morning)

Well, looks like a countdown volunteer is needed for Saturday and Sunday. Any takers? The lucky person will get to post the Season count down to 3 and 2! WOW!

Good Morning Friends!!

Crown, did you come up with a solution for Christmas Eve? I've experienced strange computer glitches but haven't seen that one before...maybe Domininck (resident tech here) could answer that question.. 'ask the crew' thread.

Very chilly this morning! Frosting on all the evergreens, so beautiful.

Crown, I can do the Countdown this week-end, would be honored to do so. When are you leaving for the coast? Taking the Super FOX?

Caseybell, maybe you can join us this year, midnight countdown to the season, November 12th. Everyone also welcome!

JayIsh

Good point Maureen! I'll keep that in mind...

Now...If I ask for Apple Pie, how can I convince those around me that when I consume an entire apple pie, it is normal holiday revelry?

Maureen
11-08-2007, 09:27 AM
No, not revelry - it's for the good of your health and consideration for others. You're just trying to incorporate all your "5 a day" intake of fruit and veg in one go. Eating the whole pie was the easiest and most fuss-free way to do it because you'd hate to put anybody to any bother by having to produce another 4 fruit/veg based things and then have to take a bit of each.

I find this excuse works for me!!

JayIsh
11-08-2007, 09:28 AM
Mo you are a genius!!!

Would you mind calling my wife and explaining this theory to her???

Maureen
11-08-2007, 10:00 AM
It's true, I can't deny it; my powers of persuasion ARE great.

Unfortunately, and this is an important point, if your wife has only made the one apple pie and it is intended to be the grand finale of Thanksgiving dinner, she will not be receptive to any overture I, or any other well-meaning soul, may make in suggesting that it IS acceptable for you to polish the whole thing off yourself, irregardless of how selfless the act may be. In fact, in situations such as these, it HAS been know to backfire rather badly and the pie-eating perpetrator has been given his head in his hands and his feet to play with (don't you just love these old British sayings??!!)

Holy I can't believe I ate the whole thing Batman, what do we do now??!!

Crown 84
11-08-2007, 10:20 AM
Crown, I can do the Countdown this week-end, would be honored to do so. When are you leaving for the coast? Taking the Super FOX?
Thanx, my firry friend.
We leave tomorrow afternoon.
Yes, the Foxter always comes!
(Carl comes when he's in a traveling mood and not working on one of his coffee-blend experiments)

JayIsh
11-08-2007, 10:20 AM
So what your saying is, this pie eating thing can be a double edged sword, as it were.

Please understand, that if it weren't for the blasted South Beach Diet, and my wife's attempt to get me to look like one of those speedo wearing, tan having, chest-hairless-wonders that one might see on the actual South Beach, I'd be happily eating my normal quanities of said pie, gravy or any other product deemed "unhealthy" by those who pride themselves on eating like rabbits. IN fact, I might add, that I've lost and found the same twenty pounds over the course of the last twenty years...And now, they are reporting that folks who are between one and twenty-five pounds overweight may actually fend off diseases better than those said to be of ideal weight and mass...I can't keep up...Oops...Just spilled Egg Nog all over the keyboard...Good thing all of these candy wrappers were there to sop it up...

Cheers!

4 days to the Season. (WOW!!)
46 days to Christmas Day.
Can't wait for Binger's special post.
Hope it's up before we leave this afternoon.

Miller4: Our special 4-3-2-1 day posts before the Nov 13 Season arrival are just our special thoughts prior to the arrival of our Christmas Season. We have been doing that for several years now, although for the first time on this site. (The previous two, Christmas.Com and The Christmas Place, closed.)
Of course, anyone can post their thoughts and feelings as we enter the Season we have waited so long for.
We have just traditionally pinpointed the 4 days prior to the official Season arrival for special posts.

A tad warmer for the commute this morning, with the temp at 38. Looks like a good weekend is in store for our trip to the coast, with the highs in the 60's with lots of sun.

Have a Fabulous Friday and a Wonderous Weekend, everyone!

When I was young, my mother would always say to me.. " Don't forget why you're here.." It was a reminder to " do the right thing... which was to help people- to manke the world a better place" The holidays appear to me to be the time that people suddenly remember 'why they're here.."- Charity- helping the neighbor- making your home more inviting- and giving. In a world that is more and more corrupt- and dysfunctional in so many levels, there still exists this small corner of cyberspace, where year long, we all meet and even at times find ourselves scrambling from site to site to continue a commitment that we made years ago with each other. We gather at this site day in and day out counting down the days till our beloved season begins. Our leader, Crown, guides us through the many months, weeks and now days until we welcome the Christmas season with full hearts, hand in hand.

We belong here. Look forward to seeing what our friends have been up to. Looking forward to the chuckle that we might get, feeling as if we are amongst our friends. We are amongst friends. Cyber friends who have stuck together for years, chasing each other through cyberspace so that our community does not splinter. And we are a community. Each of us supporting and loving the other. It has always been my distinct pleasure to be part of this group. We've grown to truly love one another...And none of us has even met in person. Just goes to show you the power of honesty. The power of Christmas, the power of those who keep the spirit in their hearts year round.

And so my friends, help me welcome day three of the countdown! Three days until our season comes round again. Thanks for being here! It is one of my great pleasures in life to be part of this fine group! Merry Christmas!

Do you think it rude to drink the gravy right from the boat???

 Reminds me of the time - many Thanksgiving Moons ago, when my cousin's youngest and I upset the gravy boat (playing at the table) and I thought all was lost - not so - the Thanksgiving vultures swarmed in with bread and sopped up all the gravy from the table so none was wasted. Thank goodness nothing landed on the floor - yet I don't think that would have stopped them - my jaw was on the floor - I was shocked, but my facial reaction didn't go un-observed, the oldest cousin shouted, "but that was Grandma's gravy recipe -the best going - it can't be wasted."

:???: Something tells me if you were enjoying Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner and my relatives were around, you could drink out of the gravy boat and nobody would think ill of you - well they'd be a little irate if you didn't leave any for them, I suppose.

Tomorrow night, Crown will return to add a special post for Day two and I'll be here on Monday for the Day one special post.

Morning, Cedar ~ thanks for the countdown!

 Well, there's snow here. Not much, but a start. Sunny day, I'll take a few pics soon. I tried this morning, but it was still too dark and my camera didn't brighten things up enough.

Snow still clinging to some cedar and pine trees and the naked branches of the elms, maples, etc. seem to have a little life in them. The ground is hardening and the air is a bit chilly, but not enough to get all the winter gear out just yet.

Happy Saturday, y'all! Iron Eagle - how you doing with the Christmas Light report?

Hi Auntie!! Yes...take more pics!
~I just got back from a lengthy drive in the north country, went down a road never seen before and found a ghostly setting among the tall Oaks. An ancient (looks to be haunted!) meeting house...I took some pics, I will see what they look like and post some. Old houses and structures from 100 years ago are so rare these days, I love it when I stumble upon one.

11:00pm? On a Monday night? Well...We'll see...For you guys I might just do it...

Another day closer! The day will be spent doing chores around here while the Mrs. does a little Christmas and birthday shopping...So you can picture me, vaccum in hand, Kenny Rogers Christmas Albums blasting in the background(he has about five of them...) and me working away!!!

Jay, have you ever owned a rabbit or seen one eating. They eat very slowly but will eat everything and I mean EVERYTHING put in front of them. That old saying of eat like a rabbit or eat like a bird is a big wash. They eat more for their size than you could ever put away. I feed the birds in the yard that come in the winter and I go through 20 to 50 pounds of bird food every two weeks if not more. As for the bunnies, we used to raise them and was always buying feed and carrots for them. Dangle a carrot in front of them and they don't stop until its all gone and then they look at you as if to say "is that all you got cheap o." lol so go ahead and eat like a rabbit.
Oh well, time to put my feet up and have a nice cup of coffee. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

ISLANDS IN THE OCEAN

I see our journey through the year, indeed through life, as akin to an ocean voyage.
There is lots to do to keep the ship moving through the water. It is interesting, fun,
but can involve hard work.
Sailors a long time at sea, look forward to their various ports-of call as respites from
their labors - relaxing excursion stops along the way which help make the voyage more
tolerable.

I see the holidays through the course of the year as islands on our yearly journey - time
to look forward to on a regular basis to pause, catch our breath and rest up before contining
the voyage.

Just as sailors have their favorite ports along the way, so do we have our favorite holidays.
For me (and I can only assume for the rest of you, otherwise you would not be here) the
favorite is CHRISTMAS! It is the BIG island. The one with the most to offer.
How nice that it is at the end of the year - the end of the voyage, so to speak, before we
embark on the next annual trip.

This "Christmas Island" has it all - fun, excitement, decorations, food, gifts. But for me, above
all, it is the fellowhip and love of my family and friends. A time for togetherness and renewal.
A time to reflect on the year past and prior years past. A time to wonder how many more
voyages there are left for us and what they will bring.
..........And ultimately, what will be wating for us at that big unknown final destination when we leave the ship for the last time.

Along this journey, we have each other as fellow passengers - to hold hands with and help
guide each other along the way.

Thank you for being my fellow passengers this year.
I look forward to many more journeys with you back to "Christmas Island" as well as all the
others.

.........And so we arrive at Day 2 before our Christmas Season.

I will simply close with my tag line from the movie Holiday Inn:
"May the calendar keep bringing happy holidays to you".

MERRY CHRISTMAS, MY FRIENDS!

Welcome to Day One of our official start to the season (begins tomorrow)!

I have always been a lover of Christmas. Thankfully my parents were Christmas crazy too. Likely where I got most of my love for the holidays from. My mom decorated the house traditionally in her special way and my father took care of the 12 foot tree. We had a "kiddie tree" in the family room to decorate with nontraditional ornaments (Disney figures, school crafts, etc.) As an adult, Christmas became a time of family bonding and fellowship with my parents' friends, (ours were welcome too) relatives and neighbours. Carollers would come to our door and we ventured to other neighborhoods to raise money for the local Santa Fund.

http://i17.tinypic.com/68gxkdx.gif

Since I was a young teenager, I would sit quietly by the Christmas Tree and reflect on Christmases past and for me that would include family members who were no longer able to celebrate the holidays with us.

One year, my father was coming upstairs from the family room and saw me sitting in the living room. I startled him because he didn't realize I was there. It was dark with the exception of the lights on the twelve-foot Christmas tree. He asked, "Why are you sitting all alone in the dark?" I replied, "I'm not sitting in the dark, the Christmas Tree Lights are on. I'm just thinking about things." My dad went upstairs to change into his pyjamas and came back and sat down on a chair in the living room. He said, "I think I'll just sit here for a little while and think about things too." We were silent for a few minutes and then had one of the most memorable chats we've ever shared about our Christmases past. I realized that the people gathering, the Christmas music playing in the background and exchanging stories were as special to him as they were to me.

Who else would understand or care about what I just shared? Christmas lovers care and share their memories and plans for the future too while waiting out the days until the next Christmas. When the Ebenezer’s of the world experience Christmas spirit, they are often reminded of the first gift of love that was offered so long ago. For those of us who live with Christmas in our hearts all year long , we can support their seasonal joy by accepting them into our festive forums and our glad hearts.

http://i15.tinypic.com/62hrvdi.jpg

The scene in It’s A Wonderful Life, when Zuzu looks up at her daddy (George) and says, “teacher says, every time a bell rings, an Angel gets its wings” reminds me how I feel. Every time a new member arrives or an old one returns, a Christmas chime plays in my head to welcome them.

The holiday season is officially upon us (tomorrow) and it comes with the opportunity to celebrate the wide variety of personal and traditional celebrations that our families (members) enjoy. As Christmas enthusiasts, we are always eager to learn and discover the traditions celebrated by our new friends, and endeavour to create a festive community where all feel welcome and “at home”.

Festive Regards,
Auntie Mistletoe

Can't wait to dust off my Christmas CD's and tapes and put on my favorite Christmas movies, which I do every Nov 13 to kick off the season.

See you here tonight for the final count!

I had to open a new box of Kleenex. ~Lovely and heartfelt posts, with alot of thought put into them. I look at these special posts by these very special people...Bing, Crown, Jay, Auntie, as MYfirst gifts of the season! Even though we have never shook hands or hugged...you, my dear friends, occupy a unique place in my heart.

And I JUST KNOW in my heart, you would never get on the express check out line with 50 items!

Once again, to all of these remarkable people I Thank You for your beautiful, heart-warming posts and for ringing in another glorious Christmas season together.

XOXOXOXOXOX ~Much Love......Cedar

Cedar, do 50 rolls of Scotch tape count as single items or individual items. Not that I've used the express line to purchase 50 rolls, just looking out for the possibility. HaHa.

I'm not sure if I'll make it in later, I'll try, but I can't drink coffee so late in the day and the toothpicks hurt - have you ever tried to keep your eyelids open with toothpicks? - not a good solution.

I hope the special guest I sent a message to last week pops in for a surprise to "ring in" the start of the season. Those who have been missing her would be delighted. (But it is a school night.)
