SEASON DAY 1
Days to Christmas Day: 42
Put my Glenn Miller "In The Christmas Mood II" in the old tape player and enjoyed a Christmassy drive to work.
It's a short commute, so I only got to hear 3 songs:
We Wish You A Merry Christmas
White Christmas
and Away In A Manger.
All done in that beautifully smooth Miller style!
If you don't have this album, I strongly recommend it.
Fifty degrees this morning for the drive.
Supposed to be 70 this afternoon.
Have a Terrific Tuesday and welcome to the Season!!

Had a heck of a day today! Took eldest son to school (worried because he was sick yesterday), took younger son to pre-school, at library to work on outline for research paper, and ring--ring (cell phone), eldest son's teacher saying he is crying from ear ache. Picked him up at school, called doctor for appointment, errands, lunch, picked up younger son at school, bank, drove to doctor, eldest has a severe ear infection, to Walmart for prescriptions, drive thru for supper, and finally home--WHEW! What a day! The only thing that got me through was knowing that the season was officially here and listening to wonderful Christmas music--Clay Aiken's Christmas CD and the ELF soundtrack!
(Still have to finish the outline--it's due at midnight!!!):wiggy:
I really enjoyed counting down the season for the central time zone last night! What fun!

Thanx for joining us Miller- that is a tradition that dates back years now- one of the rare times when we all meet " in real time.." I can do without sleep to have a chance to be with the people that I quite simply adore.... there is no other place in all of cyberspace that is as caring.... I'm glad you found us- please join in our traditions and family.. we have all been together for years- bouncing through cyberspace... continuing in an on-line friendship that never culminates- but continues- and last night was a perfect example- it was hilarious...

I second that!
And just think of all the barrels of coffee and hours, no, days, no, weeks, no, months of sleep that have passed in that time.
(You know, factoring 8 hours of sleep a night, after 3 years, you have had a full year of sleep? Kind of puts a new perspective on it, doesn't it?)
We enjoy poking at ourselves other but underneath we are a precious as gold to each other.
SEASON DAY 2
Days to Thanksgiving: 8
Days to Christmas Day: 41
Have been listening to LOTS of Christmas music since yesterday - Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby, Perry Como.... Well, you get the idea - I am a traditionalist. Just don't care much for the modern singers who seem to wail and scream their way through their songs. Give me an old-time crooner any day.
.... And Percy Faith! Don't even get me started. I'm saving the best for later!
Fifty-five for the commute this morning.
Supposed to reach 77 this afternoon. Nice, but a bit too warm for this time of the year with Thanksgiving barely over a week away.
Have a Wonderful Wednesday / Happy Hump Day, everyone!
(Does it seem like we reached Wednesday unusually fast this week? Or is it just me?)

I'm thrilled to be part of this little, merry band of Christmas pranksters as well. In many ways, I'm in touch with all of you more than the others in my life...And that's pretty cool! My other friends look at me and wonder..."What's the deal with you and Christmas..." No one here would ever think to ask that cause you all have the same "deal". Kindred spirits...that's what we are...And God bless us, everyone!

Boy Howdy, do you know...I think I actually had 'Countdown Lag' this morning...not even coffee had the desired affect..yawn. Had to get going early, I'm finally home after several stops along the way...So, what's happening my angels?
Crownster, you and I have always had similiar tastes in Christmas music...we both like the instrumentals..Percy Faith, Arthur Fiedler, Glenn Miller...Brass ensembles. I get *sick* everytime I hear someone sing a beautiful classic Christmas song - "their version" and completely destroy it. Like for instance, Barbara Streisand singing "Jingle Bells" makes me want to light myself on fire. Any of these "New" singing sensations discovered on TV...don't get me started. Here's a list of my (made-up) Christmas Fruitcake selections, in other words...albums I would never have in my collection.
~Wayne Newton's hit wonder, "Danke Schoen Meets Santa Claus"...with the Liberty Bell Singers
~The Sex Pistols sing, "Ave Maria". LIVE!!! with the American Boys Choir
~Alanis Morissette yodels the Classics
~Together at Last! ... Taylor Hicks and Ashlee Simpson; "Do You Sing as Bad as I Sing" (sung to the tune of "Do Hear What I Hear"?) accompanied by 9 music hall organs.
OK,ok...you get the picture. I'm a traditionalist too. Heehee. Music is a personal thing, one person's ear plugs is another person's head phones. (huh? Errr, something like that.) What ever stirs your soul.

Depending on the forums from which we sprung to here, we have many anniversary dates. Today is one of those. Many of us started out on Christmas.com. Snowberry was there from the beginning. It's good to see The MIDDMAN recently added here. He was an early fixture at C.com. There are many others, but I know I would leave someone out if I tried to name all.
Although I didn't appear until Apr 19, 2004 at 9:05 PM, I would still like to wish all you former Christmas.com'ers a Happy Sixth Anniversary with a look at where it started -

Thanks very much to Jeff Westover for the current digs. We have lost two homes, but are greatful to have this one and others in the MMC Network in which to feel welcomed! Thank you all for the friendships & memories, past, present, & future! Truly, the Spirit of Chrsitmas thrives here!

Days to Thanksgiving: 7 (One week from today. Gobble!!)
Days to Christmas Day: 40
Good Morning! Welcome to day 3 of our glorious Christmas Season!
I'm still listening to my Christmas music tapes and think I need to clean the tape path. I'm picking up a squeaking sound that gets broadcast right through the speakers!
Rain today, coupled with falling leaves.
It's in the mid 60's now but the temp is supposed to fall all day.

Good Morning Everyone ! and . . . . . . Merry Christmas !!!
It is cold today, 33 degrees. I hope we get some SNOW. My outside lights are just about up. I think I'll "test" them tonight.
I think Jay is putting up his decorations too. He'll be done by friday (?). Some guys opened a tree lot on my way to work. I don't think they are getting too many sales, it's just too early. I think. But yes I did stop and walk through the urban shispering woods. It was fantastic. I may have to stop every day on the way to work. It smells great. I'm sorry Binger, it smells better than coffee. Yesterday I pulled the car into the parking lot and opened all the windows for a while. Then I closed them all and finished the drive to work. The aroma seemed to last the rest of the trip.
Boy, the silly things we do.
Since I'm sure that everyone has their own Christmas music on now, I won't suggest a song for today. I suggest you listen to your favorites, and get the season started . . . . . even if everyone else says it's too early. I think we are right on time.

I'm putting my outside lights up on Saturday and our Tree up next Friday or Saturday. We'll be in full swing by the end of next weekend. We've done a big open house Christmas party every year but I think we are gonna sit this year out...got started too late and neither of us has the gumption to get it all going...Maybe somebody else will do one this year...My wife usually has all the invites out by early November, has a theme picked out and the food planned...This year we just never got it all going in one direction...There is always next year...
Cedar...I haven't smelled the shispering pines yet...that's not my secret...I don't mean to be so cryptic about this whole thing...I just want to have a little article posted on MerryChristmasRadio.com before I let the cat out of the bag...I'll ge to that tomorrow night!

SEASON DAY 4
Days to Thanksgiving: 6 (Less than a week!)
Days to Christmas Day: 39
Good Morning.
Good FRIDAY Morning!
FABULOUS FRIDAY Morning!!
The sun is shining with the temp at 40 here in Raleigh.
A calm, seasonally cool day predicted.
It feels so Thanksgivingy/Christmassy outide!
Well, I can't wait to carry my trusty camera out to the mall this weekend to snap a pix of the Big Guy!
(Did you know the REAL deal shows up at Crabtree every year? Not some fake guy with a cotton beard. We are SO lucky! Wait until you see my photos as proof!)
I hope your weekend is a Wonderous one!
Dance a Pas de luxe, walk under the shispering Cedars, catch a cat nap, drink some coffee, lots of coffee, too much coffee - no, wait.......
Anyway, keep that Christmas song in your heart (and ears!)
and the spirit of Christmas with you in all your endeavors today.

Crownster...you always have the most inspiring, up-lifting messages for all of us in the morning..Thanks for that, my friend.
I just read THE most ridiculous article, unfortunately true. Santa's in Australia are banned from saying, 'Ho Ho Ho'...why? Because it could be offensive to women! What??? C'MON! ..... let's just not talk anymore, just nod or grunt to each other...might offend someone.
Good Friday Morning my friends....'HO HO HO'!!!

Hi Maureen!! Don't spill that coffee! :-D
Hi Auntster and Sila too!
Bingster...I had to watch the DINAH SHORE CLASSIC last night because they had footage of me getting hit in the head with a golf ball. My DUSTY wig literally saved my life...all that laquered 'Aqua-Net' hairspray (16 coats..hey, it's windy out there!).. well, the ball cracked the wig, but my head is fine.
So glad it's Friday...gotta go now. Oh it's getting SO Christmassy...will put the window candles in this week-end. That's 20 of them in all! I purchased some lovely silicone dipped bulbs on the internet at a great price, got them yesterday...they look just like candle light!

No to worry, my firry friend!
Your post so shook me up, I decided to do a little internet research. Turns out Santa was not banned from HO HO HO'ing. One of the outfits that trains Santas in Australia suggested their men say "Ha Ha Ha" instead of "Ho Ho Ho" but it was not mandatory, and was left to the discretion of each Santa. There was an outcry against it and it looks like there will be no change in Santa's message!
Of course, the REAL big guy is just laughing at the whole thing ("HO, HO, HO!!") and I'm sure will continue to give out with his usual greeting.
(To be sure, I'll check it out when I see him at Crabtree)

cheesy I'm quite sure, coffee has had a great influence on the operas you've shared with us over the years, Binger!
Hi, Cherie! Good to see you!
pssst. there's no snow here. It snows now and then and disappears and then it rains or not, but it's been a little windy since Friday afternoon.
I'm whispering because I don't want Jack Frost to hear me.
When I was walking over to the mall yesterday with my husband, we crossed through the park behind us and I was walking one way and he was following the paved path.
He said, "don't you want to walk with me?", I said, "I'm not following a preconceived path, I have to find my own way. Today, I'm a rebel." Another curve in the path and I took a different route and I hollered, "meet you in Albequergue".
He thought I said something about Turkey. And said, "all you think about this time of year is your stomach and turkey." All the sudden, I thought about Jay and his boring diet.
:)) Picked up a few more presents yesterday. I'm halfway there.

I'm pretty much putting the old diet on hold this week...And next week...and the week after that...

Welcome Cherie!
And what great imagery, Maureen!
I can see the Bingster now, Viking horns on their head. On each horn, a cup (no a carafe!) of coffee is hung with a tube going down to their mouth. They try to speak through slurps. The audience gives each other puzzled looks but starts to get thirsty for coffee. Just then, Mrs. Folgers arrives like a ballgame vendor with a tray of hot steaming cups of coffee. A curtain pulls back and it is revealed that everyone is just part of a coffee ad.
Oh, Bing! You must include such a scene in your next chapter!
SEASON DAY 6
Days to Thanksgiving: 4 (WOW!)
Days to Christmas Day: 37
It's a frosty 39 in Raleigh at this hour.
Has only gone up one degree in the last 2 hours!
They predict mid 60's for this afternoon but I'll believe it when I see it!
Great Raleigh Christmas parade yesterday!
A REAL parade with floats and bands playing Christmas music. Not a psudo broadway musical like the Macy's parade has become.
Not that I don't enjoy it but I just wish they would show more of the actual parade and play more Christmas music.
Well, everyone have Super Sunday and a fabulous remainder of the weekend.

Get that pie out of the way first and then you can completely concentrate on the matter at hand!!
The curtain opens on a lone figure, spotlit, with viking horns and coffee carafe, complete with tubing and slurping sounds. Two baubles dangle precariously from this tubing to signify festive decoration - precarious in the fact that the tubing could be pierced at any moment by a wayward hook and then tragedy strikes (the basis for many a good opera).
The stage lights come up slowly, illuminating the coffee corps (we're incorporating ballet here as well) 6 stalwarts, good and true, advance on pointe bearing gifts; cream, sugar, a variety of danish pastries, cinnamon buns, donuts and strudel. The slurping builds to a crescendo and then.......... complete darkeness and a single voice wails a mournful cry.
Has the tubing been pierced? Were the danishes dropped? Did someone fall off their pointe??..............:???:

THE OPERA.. PART XXVI
Act One:
Opens with Carl the Camel walking out on stage... he sits and disperses his famous
" Bananna Mocha Java" to Binger who sits back in a state of happiness that hasn't been observed since "The Ice Capades" 1984. They break into an aria that ends with " Ohh the Pines.. Ohh The Pines.. The Shispering Pines.." which is a cue- the entire set opens up and in walks Cedar- who sings an aria annoucning that the Shipseing Pines Community is going to host the Annual " DINAH SHORE CLASSIC.." a huge cheer goes up and various performers enter ( all wearing an identical Dusty Springfield Wig)- Jayish enters and dances a paus du lux entitled" Ode To a Tall Weed in a Gale force Wind"- Maureen enters ( with Viking Hat on top of her Dusty Wig) and sings an aria entitled " Ode to Plaid.. It is the Scottish way.." Then, as the partying comes to a frenzy... ( lights darken,,, flowers wilt... music (heavy) begins playing- funeral dirge like... ) in walks Crown.... end act 1...
Act 2:
Opens with the same dark clouds overhead and Crown announcing via aria that the DINAH SHORE CLASSIC will not be held.. in fact- the Shispering Pines will be shutting down since the smell and "shispering" awakens them and they are unable to get their required 19 hour nap. Renna and Auntie Mistletoe arrive and sing an aria offering to make blinds and ear plugs.. but Crown shuns them and announces that( via aria) that they hold the deeds to all land in town. Sandy announces in aria that the Shispering Pines will shut down at noon.. 12 hours.. 6 minutes.. 33 seconds..All residents of the happy community are stunned, except for Jayish who dances a paus du lux entitled" Ode to a Real Estate Mogul infomercial.." The curtian comes down as the residents follow Jay's tutu to a small hut ( being decorated with lights by Iron Eagle.. who sings the aria " Chicago: It's my kind of town..") end.. act 2:
Act 3 (finale)
Opens with Crown sitting behind their desk and singing an aria about foreclosing on land and making plans to turn the Shispering Pines into a "retirement community" ( they like the sound of that- "retire.. meaning to nap..") Then.. with a burst of lighnting.. Radio John announces that the residents of shispering pines have all banned together and achieved "REAL ESATTE SUCCESS" through a late night infomerical and they in fact now own Crown's home,,, which is being abolished to make way for a sushi-bar/lanudromat ( complete with Cedar sitting on top of the douible "LF Stainless steel stackables singing an aria entitled" "Fired Twinkie's... good with Java..) and that the rest of the land is going to be used for the "DINAH SHORE CLASSIC.."- the entire company comes together to banish Crown into the light ( not the darkness. since it is too easy to sleep there) where they must watch "Dancing with Stars" as punishment for trying to destroy the Shispering Pines. As the curtain closes.. we see Jayish and Auntie dancing a paus du lux entitled: " Century 21... why hasn't it advanced to 22 after all these years?"

:-x Happy Monday y'all! I'm sure I'll make it back this way before Turkey dinner or lean cuisine - whatever you're planning.
Busy week ahead though. Aren't they all getting a tad busier as we get closer to "the big day"?
Still no snow, but it's cold and then damp and then cold with a trickle of rain - almost flurries, but not quite.
Last week the Trumpeter Swan's were still at the Bay about a half hour drive from here. I didn't get out there for pictures though, saw them on TV.
This Friday is our downtown Christmas walk, can't wait. The weather looks good for it. Yesterday, I missed the local Santa Claus Parade because they changed the route and didn't tell me. The last few year's I've been able to see it from the kitchen window, but not this year. I know I should have just gone out and joined the crowd a few blocks away, but our parades aren't much to brag about so I opted out of it.
Sunday is shopping day and the timing has to be perfect so I can see the children returning from the Santa Claus Express.
:!! Crown - I had my camera with my last weekend, but I thought I better ask permission before I snap shots around the mall - there are more and more rules about where you can and cannot take pictures so I'll check it out first.

In 2006, at TXP there were 3756 replies on 251 pages. (It ran a little longer passed Christmas Day though.)
:)) Here at the MMC countdown, we're looking at 1,445 replies on 145 pages and we only started the countdown on July 23rd, with Jay's help.

I'm going to be reading for weeks to catch up on all that I missed. I'm really sorry that I missed the countdown. Hopefully I will have a new puter and highspeed instead of dial-up next year. This puter is slower than a snail. I can go in and brew a pot of coffee and pour myself a piping hot cup by the time I get from one page to the other. Although I have a bunn coffeemaker and only takes a minute but puter is still slow. lol
I'm sitting here getting ready to watch a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. I haven't seen that in a few years so not gonna miss it this year.
Hey have you tried the new coffee creamer, Peppermint mocha. mmmmmmmmmmmmm pretty good.

Auntie, could you check your figures, please?
I distinctly recall each year had more posts than the year before. I don't have access to the C.Com or TXP archives but I remember that.
Cedar, the only movie performer I ever met in my life was Jerry Maren who played the Guild member who handed Dorothy the lollipop. He was in his 80's and at our annual Raleigh Christmas show here a few years back.
Was here with his wife. I believe he is still with us.
There are very few of the Munchkins still living, now.
SEASON DAY 9
Days to Thanksgiving: 1 (TOMORROW, GUYS!!)
Days to Christmas Day: 34 (Less than 5 weeks!)
Well, frustratingly sad news. I still cannot get my father's computer to allow me to post to this forum and that's where we will be spending the Thanksgiving holidays. The darn thing keeps giving me the same error message: "Your post is too short and needs to be longer than 2 characters". I get this message no matter how long a post I type. Have never seen anything like it. The "Ask the Crew" guys are stumped!
As such, it looks like I'll be off the air until Saturday or Sunday.
I hope everyone has the best Thanksgiving possible and gets lots of turkey and cranberry sauce!
Have a Wonderful Wednesday / Happy Hump Day!

I know I speak for my friend Binger when I say that I'm thankful for the friendship that these forums offer, all of the forums we've been on for that matter. It is truly a gift and a shining light in my life!
Cedar, good luck with the crowds today...I seem to always have to go on Thanksgiving morning for something that the Mrs. forgets and it is a zoo there then too...
I'm looking forward to the Macy's parade tomorrow!!!

The turkeys (note plural), are in the oven, the honey baked ham is on the grill, whole wheat sausage and sage stuffing, spuds, pumpkin muffins, and lots of veggies. And that's just for starters.

Good Thanksgiving Evening! Our family get together will be Saturday due to the four shift workers of the family.
I'm at work grooving to a December 25, 1993 archived Christmas show from The Hound on WFMU out of the Hudson Valley covering New York City and parts of New Jersey.
Check it out - http://thehound.net/19931225/ One can listen to the entire show or certain segments, or even individual tunes. All are downloadable in whole or part. Traditionalists beware!
Look for an archived Christmas audio thread in the music section shortly after your "Holiday radio station" pulls the Christmas plug (and rather abruptly)!
