CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN 2007

Start of the Christmas Season (November 13). Most of us have agreed that we look forward to the Christmas Season rather than just to Christmas Day. Why November 13? No reason, really. It just seems about the right time to regard the season as arriving. It is exactly 6 weeks before Christmas Day and is about the time the country at large is beginning to get into the holiday spirit. Most of the stores have decorated. And starting the season then gives us exactly 50 days (Nov 13 through Jan 1) to enjoy being "within" the season.

We also like to note "milestones" along the way such as the 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 marks. At 90% complete, we launch the "home stretch" as we coast into the final days before the season begins.

January 17 = Day 300
February 12 = 1/4 mark
March 15 = 1/3 mark
April 27 = Day 200
May 15 = 1/2 mark
July 14 = 2/3 mark
August 05 = Day 100
August 14 = 3/4 mark
October 07 = 90% (The Home Stretch begins)
November 13 = THE SEASON ARRIVES!

This was copied from something that our dear friend Crown84 posted. We're still hoping to see his/her happy, smiling face here! In the mean-time, I thought I might try and continue our friend's tradition!!!

I figure it to be about 112 days till the season begins!!! If this is incorrect, please let me know immediately!!!

We're well on the road and in good shape, all is right with the world!!!

Jump aboard guys...We have alot of work to do on this thread to eaqual the posts we had at it's former residence!~!

Thanks for kicking off the countdown, Jay!

I see 153 days until Christmas
And 111 to the season (so 112 yesterday sounds about right)
I've heard a whisper about decorating in 100 days.
That seems sooooooooo close.

I only have about six gifts (quite a bit of Scotch tape), three boxes of beautiful Christmas cards and some gift wrap.

I figure I have 112 days to get ready for Christmas.

Carl the camel - where are you?

Wow, you're good!!!! I thought I was doing all right until your post.. I'm going to have to get busy. But I go back to work on the 6th of August, and I'm throwing a vacation in there too! But my Christmas cards are done for the family and friends. Now I have to make 40 more for the new friends I have made here. I pretty much am done with the dinner planning, the gifts we'll buy on vacation. So, I'll get there....cheesy

I was thinking its Christmas in July tomorrow, the 25th. I'm excited! :notice:

I have one special card for my DH. I'm not sure how much new paper and cards I have, but I did get some more recently. Note to self; dig out tomorrow and see what, if anything, is needed.

I've got my 2007 Christmas Card mailing list started. I've spotted a gift for Kev aka DH. Not sure if I should get it for his b'day in September or hold onto it til :tree: Hard to believe we're 2/3 of the way there already.

I'm getting giddy!

Still, seeing the sculptures, decor, ornaments, etc. is exiting and enhances the Christmas mood and spirit!!! Have a great evening and Merry Christmas everyone!

You know what I don't like about being on vacation. I tend to lose all track of time. For instance, I was expecting Santa to visit tonight, but alas I'm a day behind or 152 days early - depends on how you look at it.

I wore my reindeer and Christmas tree nightshirt with red background. The antlers on every reindeer and five ornaments on each tree glow in the dark. I didn't know that until the wee hours of the morning. Cool!

I think Santa gave it to me last year, but it was a little snug. Fits just right now.

I fixed up the master bedroom and my little Christmas corner looks nice. I drank my coffee this morning out of a reindeer skating themed mug. Holds more coffee than my usual cup, but the handle is still thin - I don't like heavy handles - slows down the sipping process.

I hope to get a wee bit of shopping done tomorrow.

Song for the day . . . Deck the Halls by: Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra!

Someone pass the turkey, please!

Hello, folks!
I'm both sad and happy as I'm sure the rest of the TXP people are.

I posted in the special introduction thread Jayish was kind enough to start for me. (Wow, what a welcome! I feel special!)

As I stated there, the timing is really bad as we are just leaving on our annual trip to Florida to visit relatives for a week. Will have to wait until I get back to familiarize myself with this site and how it works.

Binger, you will be happy to know I found my way here by following the coffee trail you left for me. Wonderful aroma to pursue to this nice place.
(I still don't drink the stuff, of course!)

Ah, poor Carl! He's devastated again! Locked himself in the barn and won't come out. Two homes gone just like that. He keeps saying "Woe is me. What's the use?"
Oh, well, I'm sure he will come around again at some point and get to know the nice people new people here. (And maybe do some visiting!)

Good morning everyone !!

Crowns here, Woooohooo!

It's 0004hrs here in Chicago. And that's time for some music (a nice back ground for reading the posts.

My suggested song for today: Tingstad & Rumbel - The Gift - 12 - The Coventry Carol.

Today is my friday, tomorrow is my day off for this week. Mrs. Eagle and I haven't figured out what we are going to do. Maybe go looking around in Indiana, maybe go to the mall ( maybe start Christmas shopping, it's never too early you know! ).

Just a thought (which I don't do very often) :
This guy goes into a restaurant for a Christmas breakfast while in his home town for the holidays. After looking over the menu he says, "I'll just have the eggs Benedict." His order comes a while later and it's served on a big, shiny hubcap.

He asks the waiter, "What's with the hubcap?"

The waiter sings, "O, there's no plate like chrome for the hollandaise!"

On that high note, it's time for me to turn in.

Stay safe - stay cool.

Crown - I got goosebumps seeing you post here. Cool!

Well, this has to be short. Mrs. Eagle and I are going to Indiana today (looking for property). Retirement is coming.

Auntie your nightshirt and Christmas corner sound great! What's in the corner, if I may be so bold as to enquire?

:tree: Okay so picture it . . . On a round table next to the long dresser there is a festive tablecloth resembling a Christmas quilt with reindeer prancing, snowflakes and pine trees with clumps of snow and yes, cardinals and holly too. Leaning on one wall (record enthusiasts skip this line) is the story and soundtrack album from the movie (Rankin and Bass) T'was the Night Before Christmas. Leaning against another wall is my Charles Dicken's book (consisting of four popular stories including of course A Christmas Carol) and in front of it is the smaller book the Christmas Box and there are two tiny snowmen figurines with deer nestled around them, there's a fabric Angel and a Fabric Santa and a wooden Elf holding a tiny puppet in his wooden hand. There's Chrsitmas scented potpourri in a heart-shaped holder (made for a candle) and hanging from a post on the long mirror is a Santa pouch containing more potpourri and on the other post my Whoville hat. There's a festive cookie tin in red with gold snowflakes and resting on top are two candy cane tea light holders (made from molded iron) and the Globe of the world so I can remember all the places Santa likes to visit. There's also a small plate with artificial snow scattered about with a little glitter and in the centre is an apple and cinnamon scented candle (ummm -smells like apple pie) and last, but not least - hanging from the ceiling (where a plant should be), there's a painted flat sleigh with a caricature of Father Christmas (my dad made it). A wee bit of Christmas still present and accounted for at Auntie's place.

:carve:
here ya go!!!

Thanks, that was delicious! More mashed potatoes with creamy butter, please!

I hope to get a wee bit of shopping done tomorrow.

Well that didn't happen. I guess I'll go shopping next weekend instead.

Hello, folks!

I sure hope Carl the camel cheers up soon. It's terribly depressing when he can't be his old "gettin' into trouble" self. Tell him that many of his friends are here and he doesn't have to be shy. I don't think anyone here will even mention the that he's an imaginary camel who travels to visit jolly members all year.

Tell him it's safe!

:whisper: You know what they say, Binger - one good Opera deserves another! Can Jay get a new leotard for this one?

Hot and humid today - heard people complain about the 87 temp so I reminded them about the -40 we experienced in February just to cool them off and then of course I reminded them how many days there were until Christmas. (Got the glare eyes.)

Inquiring mind - O'Malley the cat is back to his old feral-cat self now. No more toys that contain catnip for my buddy - he can't handle it.

Christmas - what a wonderful word!

:elf: Wonder if Santa has the elves working on my wish list yet.

I just found out that two young ladies that work for me both have horses. One has three and a pony, the other has eight horses. I told them about my conversation with Santa here and how he didn't think I was ready to have one yet. They laughed.

I checked the with the city and discovered there's no by-law that says I can't have a horse in the city, it just isn't very safe.

Have a great evening and a better tomorrow, etc.

the crisp air returns Jay

:hello: That reminds me. Last night my husband was talking and I was only half-listening and I thought I heard him say, "Christmas" so of course I paid closer attention to him, only to discover he had said, "crispness" and then I listened just in case he tried to quiz me later. HaHa.

Woke up to a temp around 55 this morning. Nice breeze in the air.

We hit 87 on Thursday and had a storm and a short power outage. No harm done that I know of.

Looks like nice weather for the weekend. My niece is in town visiting my parents (on her own) so I'll be popping in and taking her to a movie to give my mother a rest (still recovering from her Stroke). She's about 9 years old now. She wants to see the new Harry Potter movie, so I guess that's where we're going.

No work on Monday! Long weekend ~ not much happening though, bunch of local entertainment playing down at the waterfront.

:snowball: Be good and think Christmas! Be naughty and think Santa's bringing your presents to me. HaHaHoHo.

Hey Auntie, send some of that crispness this way, Pleeeeeeeease. It is so warm (HOT) here today. We went into town today and was so glad to come home to the ac. aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Another warm one here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Even the breeze is saying its hot. lol We never used to get this breeze this time of the year and it is sure drying things out beyond dry. Our crispness here is snap, crackle, pop of the grass when you walk on it. Even after a good watering.

Goodmorning everyone !

I'm on vacation. I left the pager in the drawr and turned the cell phone off. Mrs.Eagle and I, and my son Jon, are traveling through Indiana. On the way to a "Wolf Park" I saw a house decorated in white lights. It was beautiful. It made me start tinking about my lights for this year. Maybe we'll go white this year too. If we are in the area tonight, I'll try to get a picture of the house. It looked like a remodeled farm house, which is typical in this area. As I think about it . . . . . . . I guess you could say I found my first "lighted house"for this season, and I wasn't on my official "lighted house" patrol yet. Very cool !

I can't tell you what the weather in Chicago is as we are not there. It was hot when we left. We are in Lafayette, and it was hot all day with a light sprinkle at about 8pm. Everything cooled down nicely. Today remains to be seen. With the time change, It's about 0530hrs here, and everyone's sleeping. So I have the laptop to myself. Cool !

A song for today, you say?? Let me walk over to the library. Hmmmmmm. How about: Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song
Ah, what a classic.

Well,I'm going to turn in. I'll try to stop by later.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good morning (coffee anyone?).

Stay safe - stay cool.

Hi Jana, ya the weekend was good. I had to go back to work today after a week off because of med probs. Boy I was missed at work, all they young girls all hugged me, I was surprised about that. The kids at Penneys are a kick. I think I spent more time talking today than working.

Boy, I don't think I have heard Cedar so excited and Hyper before Crown. Your were really missed by all. I guess next time you had better find a way to stop in and say hay so that Cedar wont lose it so badly.

Crown thanks, its nice to be here. Don't think I'll be going anywhere for a while. Do you remember that song, "Just looking for a home" I can't remember who sings it or the total title name, well I think I've found a home here. :hello: Good morning, Christmas lovers!

Renna, I think that song is by Weeping Willows. I prefer "Snoopy Come Home". Haha.

Whatever song you are listening to, I hope this feels like home sweet home to you.

Now there I went and stuck that Kenny Loggins tune in my head again. Celebrate Me Home.

A coffee and sleep - two names pop up every time I hear those words. Can you guess who comes to mind? Correct.

No work today. Civic Holiday here. I've been keeping busy though. Had to get a post or two in just so you don't go thinking I lost my Christmas lovin' feelin'.

Never gonna happen, Neeeever.

Enjoyed the movie yesterday with my niece. Harry Potter was the only thing playing that I could bring her to. There were only three of us in the theater. She made me laugh because she was about to sit behind the man who was there before us. I said, "we have a whole theater to ourselves, let's not crowd each other." Good thing too, she's a bit of chair rocker when she gets nervous. The effects were good, but some of them could have been done much better.

Saw the preview of Fred Claus and it made me wish it were Christmas.

98 days to the Season.
140 days to Christmas Day.

Good Morning, friends.
Let me re-phrase that.
It's a good morning if you like your eggs sidewalk-fried.
(Or your coffee sidewalk-percolated like our friend, Binger)
The temp is supposed to get past 100 for the next 3 days!
That plus the humidity makes me glad I have an inside office job.

Carl has no problem, of course. With his oversized converted washtub, he can just soak all day with a fan blowing on him!
He tells me the heat/humidity is good for brewing his latest coffee-persimmon blend. YUK! (Only Binger would like that!)

Anyway, have a Terrific Tuesday, my fellow Christmas Comrades.

It's definitely a matter of taste...In 1992 I was living in California and had just discovered Starbucks and LOVED it...I brought a pound of coffee home with me when I came for Christmas...I made a big ol' pot on Christmas Morning...Nobody would touch it...Some of them like it now...But at the time they were mad at me for making this "crap" in the only coffee maker my Mom had...I've said it before...I've heard critics call Starbucks burnt, too strong, bitter...I really like it though...I guess maybe I stll like you Janabanana...Just watch your step or I'll have Juan Valdez and his burro come stay at your house for an extended visit!!!

For those who were never at Christmas.Com or The Christmas Place, you should be aware we have a world-class playwright here, our one and only Binger! We have been very entertained over the years by their clever prose.
You should all feel honored, as you surely will be, when their next installment appears.

I'll try to get my hands on the laptop if I can.

THE OPERA.. PART XXII

Act One:

Opening scne.. the Israel Lites Deli.... It is Hot, Hazy, Humid.... Binger and Scrooge are sitting outside singing the Aria.. " Iced Coffee in the Morning.. Iced Coffee in the Evening.. Iced Coffee in the early morning..."- The lovely Cedar is serving up malts in her best Dusty Wig.. she too breaks into an aria entitled " The look of love.... is when temps are below 103 degrees..." Jay and The Stars enter and dance a paus du lux entitled " Ode to Ham on Rye.." It is obvious that the Israel Lites Deli is a happy place..... with much partying late into the night

end act one ( and we all know what's coming..)

Act two:
Opens with radio jon dropping from the ceiling announcing the closing of the Israel Lites Deli. He sings the aria " by order of the evil Crownster... The Deli is closed and using their magical powers.. everyone is hereby sent to Aquafinaland.." ( where there is no coffee)- Everyone is confused... but that is due to the lack of Coffee... Crown enters and sings the aria " at last... now I may sleep and sleep without the Deli keeping me awake at night.."- The Israel Lites is closed and shuttered and as the curtain closes, we see Crown pulling up their mattress to the building and announcing that it is now a Mattress Discounters store.. They then break into the aria " Sleep on it.. play on it.. have a good night's sleep on us.. mattress discounters..."
(end act 2)

Act 3 ( finale)

Opens with Jeff Westover announcing via an aria that The Israel Lites is reopening and that Crown's evil powers have been revoked and in order to create a new universe of happiness Jana will be joining the staff of Israel Lites and serving a new dish called " the nugget" which goes well with iced coffee, plus, left over nuggets will be used each night to build a wall between Crown and the Deli, thus never disrupting their slumber again. Cedar joins Jay as the curtian closes and in one of the most beautiful moments ever in Operatic history, we see them sticking Crown's hand in a warm bucket of water as they sleep. The crowd at the Israel Lites all break into the aria
" Lean on me.." Sandy annpucnes that The Israel Lites is now Open for business....

end...

They are so moved they decide to return to bed for an extra 3 hours of sleep just so they can dream about what they read. (And also to drown out the wails of Carl who is again upset that he was left out - that narcissistic camel!)

Seriously, my coffee-soaked friend, you have outdone yourself.
Ah, you missed your calling. You could have been a great writer.
Hmmm..... what do we really know about our friend Binger. They might in fact BE a great writer here in disguise!

94 days to the Season.
136 days to Christmas Day.

We are looking forward to the "cool" temps here today with the high only in the low 90's.

Would you believe, my beloved Crown Victoria (from which my stage name here comes) failed the state inspection yesterday afternoon because the high-beam indicator on the dashboard was burned out! I'm not talking the high beam headlilghts - just the little blue indicator on the dash! Can someone tell me how that is a safety issue? As if I can't tell when my high beams are on? Now, I'll likely have to spend $500 to have someone dissassemble the dashboard to replace the bulb. Go figure!

Anyway, have a Stupendous Saturday, all my friends!

Good Mmmmmmmorning Everyone !

Mrs. Eagle and I are officially back from our trip to Indiana. Met some nice people down there. I think everyone there grows corn or soybeans, even in small backyard gardens.
It's nice to be home !!!

The weather here is . . . . just a second, I'm checking . . . . . 75F and sunny. So far. It rained most of the night, so the air smells nice this morning. I just hope it stays this way today.

My suggested song for today is in two parts:
For all of us in the warmer weather: A theme from The Year without Santa - Mr. Snow Miser
For all of us in the cooler weather: A theme from The Year without Santa - Mr. Heat Miser

No Christmas song collection is complete without these two songs.

Watch the heat everyone. Stay hydrated, drink plenty of liquids: iced coffee (or iced tea) , maybe even some water. Stay healthy, Christmas is coming.

Stay safe - stay cool.

Don't know why, Iron, but I love it when you refer to your wife as "Mrs. Eagle". It always makes me smile.

93 days to the Season. (The 3/4 mark to the Season arrives on Tuesday!)
135 days to Christmas Day.

MUCH better weather yesterday. A high of only 85 compared to 104 on Friday.
Now THAT's a change for the better. Supposed to be nice again today, too.

Hey, Cedar! I didn't see any big band leaders on your list of favorites.
Where is Glen Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Bob Crosby, Les Brown, Count Basie, Harry James, Glen Gray, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Charlie Barnet?

Well, I spent a fruitless morning yesterday trying to access the high-beam indicator lightbulb behind my Crown Vic's dash. Everything was too tight to get my hands past to go in from underneath (and I have very small hands) and I could not come in from the front since the screws were frozen in place after 22 years. I dared not apply much force as the plastic is brittle after all this time and I did not want to crack the instrument board. All this over a 50-cent light bulb that has nothing to do with the safety of driving the car. SIGH!

Well until I can figure something else out, I'll be driving illegally, I guess.

Have a Super Sunday, my friends!

Hello my fine friends!!!

The Mrs. and I took a trip west this afternoon to Marshalls Creek, PA. There is a store out there call The Christmas Factory that has a huge selection...We spent almost two hours there...It was a nice dose of Christmas on a hot August Sunday...Also went to see The Moody Blues on Friday night and they played a song from their Album, December. In fact that may have been the song...But it was really cool to be in a concert hall watching a band play a Christmas song in August and have such a huge ovation when they were done...For a while...all 5000 or so of us were in the Christmas spirit!!!

All in all, a great weekend...Back to the grind tomorrow...But wait!!! Crown reminds us that we will be 3/4 of the way on our journey...Now how cool is that!!!

I wanted to say too...That I'm warmed beyond words by the way that the good folks at MyMerryChristmas.com have embraced we Christmtas.com, TheXmasPlace.com refugees...And also the way that so many of the members of those sites have tried to assimilate here...We're a good bunch we Christmas nuts...If I do say so myself...And I do!

Good Morning my friends !!!

I'm taking a chance doing a post at this time. I'm doing it BC (before coffee). This could be a little rough. But not to worry, the pot is brewing as we speak. It's not really a "pot", it's a "Coffee-on-demand" by Cuisinart (looks more like a coffee dispencer than a pot). It should be ready soon.

Chicago weather: Partly cloudy. Hot. High 91F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph. (said in my best announcer voice). It rained last night so right now it's 68F.

Did I hear someone speak of the Moody Blues??? I saw them recently on PBS. They were great. Some groups go on tour and, I'm sorry to say, someone should tell them to pack the instruments and go home. When it's over, it's over. The Moodies, and a few others still sound great.
Christmas music is still tops in my book.

What's this I hear? The coffee just beeped. Yyyyes !!! Coffee anyone? Crown, how about a nice big cup ? Cream, milk, sugar, and splenda are all set out for everyone. Jay, Cedar, Andrex step right up. Binger, you take it black right? I have a tall mug for you, I'll set it next to your computer. You may have to move the other coffee cups (Hmmmm, 5 cups??) out of the way though. I used to drink it black too, but that was a long time ago in a land I would not care to describe here. I decided then that when I returned to the real world I would be thankful for all the things we take for granted. Family, a roof that doesn't leak, cream and sugar, coffee that doesn't taste like mud (and I mean real mud), and CHRISTMAS . . . . . . to name a few.
Sorry about that, I didn't mean to get going. Come on, Cedar, Renna and everyone. I see Sparkle stepping up. Coffee's ready on the counter, and of course, tea fixin's are on the table. So everyone help yourself ! And I have a second machine ready to go if we get low.

I got recalled so my leave (vacation) is cut short by a couple of days. The overtime will be welcome. The good news is that any leave day not taken are re-issued at the end of the year. If I count correctly (and there is some doubt about that), at current calculations I will be off from . . . . . about the 7th of December to the end of the year. I hope !
I better get going, the chores are calling me.

Song for today, lets look - C:\1 All Data\ALL MUSIC\Dad's\Christmas.
Ah, how about for now: Glad - An Acapella Christmas - Hark, The Herald Angels Sing.
And for later tonight: Danny Wright - Remembering - Silent Night.

Gotta fly !!!

Stay safe - stay cool.

Now that you have drained Carl, you might as well come down and help me fix it.
(Actually, I found an old Ford guy here locally and have an appointment to take it in later this week. I still can't believe it failed inspection over a dashbulb light bulb!)

90 days to the Season.
132 days to Christmas Day.

Seventy degrees here this morning when I left for work.
But 100 + is predicted for today and tomorrow. Then in the mid 80's for the weekend. More of that roller-coaster weather!
(I hope that shed is air-conditioned.)

Take my pillow, Bing? Don't say things like that - you'll give me nightmares. Like you hearing that Maxwell House filed bankruptcy.

Have a Wonderful Wednesday/Happy Hump Day, friends!
Keep that Christmas song in your heart.

OK, this is war...on.."The" cricket. I tried reading last night, got into a few pages and the cricket starts in. I got down on the floor and looked for it, and it stopped singing. Got back into my chair, read alittle more....yep, even louder. Came downstairs this morning and there it was....somewhere...chirping away.
Excuse me..I think I just saw it....

Wow, Iceland! Now there's a Christmassy sounding place to be from.
What's the weather like there in December?

Well, one thing is sure about Iceland -you never know about the weather. Iīm from the northside of the country (my parents live there and thatīs where I celebrate christmas) and there it can snow in april, may and even in june (it did in 2004 and 2005). Usually everything is covered with snow in december but last year the snow was on the southside (where I live and work).
Iīm crossing fingers for save travel and snow for christmas.

~ Where is Bing today...? Usually posts by now...
Maybe working diligently on a new opera with a Cricket, a Camel, Crown, Christmas, Cedar, Coffee....oh. See what you mean Crown, getting VERY dizzy...need sleep...now...

Cricket update: Turned up "Heart Of Glass" by Blondie...to drown out the chirping but he/she just got LOUDER! I mean, Blondie has a high voice and I could still hear the cricket...like a bad case of the hiccups!!! I'm starting to get attached to this cricket...should I name it? Chris? Chris the Cricket?

~Jay, that's an awesome idea...you already have book number one and two...think of the possibilities...Thanks Prim, better than a lizard, yeah.

Boy. I'm gone for a day and everything turns upside down. Cedar did you get that cricket or did Wilomena come and join in the choir. Would have a soprano and probable bass. I have a baritone frog that I can send your way also. He seems to sleep or should I say ssssssing under my bedroom window at night. Keeps me up pretty late most nights. Wouldn't be so bad if he would stay close to the pond. I even have a frog house for him, I guess he likes camping at night.
So sorry about Maxwell House going down and out, not a bad cup of coffee, myself I prefer Yuban.

Good Evening Everyone !

It's a nice soft evening . . . . . except for the unbelievable lightning. Very little rain though. They say we are in for some bad weather for the next few days. I'd rather trade the rain for winter snows. Maybe a foot or two. I only get to say that because Mrs. Eagle is not looking over my shoulder . . . .

Have a nice night, and think SNOW !!!

Stay safe - stay cool

Good Morning, Christmas Friends!
The sun is shining, the birds are singing, coffee is percolating, big-band music is playing, crickets are chirping.......

99 was our high yesterday with 101 predicted for today!
Enough. Let's just skip forward to October!
