I want to donate items to a charity drive this christmas. But i can't think of many. The only one i can think of is Toys For Tots. Can you guys out there give me some other names of good charity drives? Thanks for your help.

Here in central Iowa the county has a program where you can adopt a needy family for Christmas, you are given a wish list and then you can provide the items as Christmas gifts. Most of the time they are much needed items such as clothes. Perhaps there are similar events in your area and a email to your local county office would be fruitful.

One that I participate in every year is Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse.

OCC volunteers pack wrapped shoeboxes with toys, candy, and school supplies, then drop them off at a local collection point. The boxes are distributed to impovrished children around the world.

The Salvation Army says they expect donations to be down this year of course it doesn't help when certain retail stores don't let them ring bells at their entrances.

there are bazillions of adopt-a-family things out there. check at your local mall. there are usually coat drives this time of year. plus dps and police usually have brown and blue santa drives
salvation army and other helping hands organizations are always looking for ppl during the holidays.
i would check with your local mayor's office or chamber of commerce. now is when they are organizing these things. also check the bb at the library. call the junior league and any other service organizations in your area. they will all be tickled pink to get your call!!

Mike and I usually go to the mall and pull a wish list off the Christmas Wish List. The local battered women's shelter and homeless shelters put them up for the kids involved. I like to get them the toy they ask for, plus something to help them in school...calculator, art set, spelling toy.
You can also check your local churches. They usually have something for the local children in need.

Lots of people in need, doesn't matter who you donate to just that you donate.

Lots of the police and fire stations around the country have programs where people donate, and when children or familes are displaced or seperated for any reason, they will give them donated items. I collect teddy bears (new and slightly loved) and we will drop them off at the beginning of December every year. They are a year around giving thing. Lots of police officers in our area haul around a bag or two in their trunks just in case they get calls about children in crisis. THe teddy bears are a big thing and can help ease some of the pain.

maybe ask your local grocery store about a food drive? We have a thing here where local radio DJ's and newscasters collect coats for kids all the way up to christmas,

We are a Marines Toys for Tots collection location as well as a food bank collection point. We have been really succesful over the years helping others in the community.
