This may sound funny, but my lead-up to the Christmas Season begins (or it least it has for the last few years) with the viewing of "Pieces of April" in Late September/Early October. It's a Thanksgiving movie and it starts getting me geared up for the whole Holiday Season. Closely following "Pieces of April" is usually "Miracle on 34th Street" (and the reading of the book) Of course starting in November, I'll start viewing such standards as "White Christmas" "A Christmas Carol"(and the reading of the book), and "Christmas Vacation".

:sparkle:

As for me, I can't say that its movies that does it for me......TV shows that I have taped do the trick. Like I mentioned in a previous post, I check Zap2it.com and do an advanced search for Christmas shows.

I have been building up a pretty good collection so far. I intend to transfer them to DVD and cut out the commercials. One thing I do like about some of the shows is that they have such great Christmas colors....reds, greens, blues and so forth.

I do watch them at different times when the mood strikes me. Guess I have to admit, Christmas has its hold on me big time!

Muppet family christmas

YES.

Also, for some odd reason the Home Alone movies were never "Christmas" movies, or even Winter one. >_>

My favorite is Elf.
I love all christmas movies, even the "bad" ones, because of the music and the decorations. (I just watched Christmas with the Kranks, fantastic songs and decorations)
And if I get sick and have to lay in bed, then I watch christmas movies because they make me feel better. No matter what time of the year.

This doesn't quite speak to the topic but I'm at work now and listening to the Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown CD and it's putting me in a wierd mood. I've really been into getting ready for halloween lately but for soe reason (probably the freakin' heat) I've also been thinking about Christmas and colder weather. When I hear those first few notes of O Tannenbaum it really feels like Christmas to me.
I think this is the earliest I've actually pulled out a Christmas cd to listen to.

I have Christmas music going all the time but movies I hold in reserve. In my laptop last week someone had stuck "While You Were Sleeping" in the dvd and while not technically a Christmas movie it sure put me in the mood.

Hmmm...I suppose the big ones that get me in the Christmas mood would have to be:

It's a Wonderful Life (I still remember the first time I watched that movie and what a big impression it made on me)

Christmas Vacation (watch it every year while I'm putting up my Christmas tree)

A Charlie Brown Christmas

A Christmas Carol

Oh, and Christmas Eve on Sesame Street (one of my absolute all time favorites!)

I have two groups of Christmas movies; the ones I watch off season that get me in the mood, and the ones you have to watch when the Christmas tree is lit.

My "In-season only" films are:
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Story
A Christmas Carol
A Charlie Brown Christmas
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
The Bishop's Wife
Miracle on 34th Street (old)

My pre-season feel-goods are:
Christmas in Connecticut
Christmas with the Kranks
Home Alone
The Santa Clause 1&2
Little Women --- a must watch when baking!
Miracle on 34th Street (new)

However, my all time favorite off-season viewing is the Holiday Lights DVD collection put together by Greg Young of Planet Christmas & Constantly Christmas (light display forums). It's a 2-DVD set produced each year with video submissions of big light displays across the country, set to music. It's great background, and I like to watch it on nights when I have trouble getting to sleep....it's relaxing and there's no plot I have to stay awake for.
