Up until 2 years ago we would make our rounds with family on Christmas Eve and would not get home until after 9 pm. Our daughter would be wound up from all the excitment that it would take forever to get her to calm down enough to get her asleep.
2 Christmases ago we decided to change that. We do rounds with family on the 23rd and on the mornning of the 24th. We want to be home by 3 pm on Christmas Eve so we can enjoy a nice seafood dinner, relax and watch Christmas movies. This has made it much easier to get her to bed at a decent time and now that we have 2 kids, the easier the better. We also give them warm milk right before bed.
By the time we get to bed, we are tired but also relaxed that it's not that hard to get to sleep.
Any toys that need to be assembled are done so ahead of time, this makes a big difference on Christmas Eve since we do not put out the gifts until right before we go to bed.

I go to bed between 1:00 am to 2:00 am in the morning. I try not to stay up to late so that I can enjoy the Day! :-x

I go to bed whenever I can get my kids to go to bed, so Santa can come. My kids have to set out cookies and milk for Santa and the reindeer food. I then read The Night Before Christmas and The Nativity Story. That's about all of the bedtime traditions we have for Christmas Eve.

Well, by the time we get home from the In-law's annual Christmas Eve open house, it's usually knocking on midnight - 1:00 am so going to sleep at that point isn't a problem...for me. I'm usually so exhausted that I'm half asleep before my head hits the pillow.

Since I have trouble sleeping I go to sleep when I can
We, too, usually visit friends or family on Christmas Eve..sometimes we have them at our home so it varies when we get to go to bed! We dont have any young children (our son is now 22) so its very different from when he was little and excited about Santa coming! I still do stockings for each of us that I put out just before I go to bed!

:hello: I don't have any tricks to get to sleep on Christmas Eve.
I actually had the best Christmas Eve sleep (five hours straight) when we spent the first Christmas with our grandchildren who live in Ottawa.
Sometimes my eyes are tired, my body gets a rest, but I can't sleep. I'll be in bed closing my eyes and opening my eyes and looking up at the sky and listening for the sound of sleigh bells passing by the tree tops outside my window.
:rudolph: My husband doesn't seem to have any trouble falling asleep. Something tells me he doesn't believe in Santa anymore.

Usually on Christmas eve, I try to play with the kids the whole entire day so that when we are driving home from visiting family and friends they usually fall asleep during the car ride, and it usually works. I indulge heavily in "egg nogg" on Christmas eve so I have no problem falling asleep either.

Youknow it's wild because when i was little i would go to bed around 11:30pm because mom and dad would always tell me that Santa will come anytime around Midnight of after so my brother and i would go to bed and just lay there..we couldn't sleep..the littlest noise and we would jump or jerk asking each other was that santa?...now days my little girl will go to bed about the same time..and on some christmas eve's of the past i would hear her getting up and walking down the hall way tryin to catch a peek at santa....last year she done that and she walked in the living room i got up and walked in there with her and told her..hunny you better get to bed or santa might pass our house bout that time i said that we heard christmas bells ringing outside and she ran back to her bed and jumped in it...lol ohh it was cute..
