Personally I prefer to stay home, it's usually too cold outside for my liking, but on the second half of Christmas we do go out to some relatives.

Are you in the Midlands by any chance? Going to the pub for Christmas seems to be the done thing in this part of the country. I have friends elsewhere in England who say they've never heard of such a thing. Where I'm from, the taverns aren't open the 25th/26th. cheesy

I like to stay in Christmas Day. Visitors are welcome, but I don't like to go out. Boxing Day is for running the roads, visiting. Its taken me six years to get my husband's family to come round to the notion that Christmas isn't just one day/cram it all in/thank God thats over/rush off abroad for a beach holiday. Relax! Enjoy the season folks! :snowball:

Well, since it's just my DH and I Christmas would be pretty boring if we just stayed at home. For me Christmas is all about getting together with friends and family so I'm quite content to go visiting on Christmas Eve/Day.

However, I will say that I'm looking forward to having a house someday soon (within the next year or so) that's large enough to host our family Holiday gathering. In which case, we will be quite content to stay at home with everyone coming to our house!

But this year we want to do all of our visiting on Christmas Eve so that we can stay home and enjoy our children and our grandchildren. I am really looking forward to that! :notice:

Oh gosh i love it when it's cold on christmas. I would have it no other way. I hate kansas weather. Sometimes it's mild on are christmas's. Last year it was 39 for a high which i was happy about. Wish it was colder. And we had just missed a white christmas about 20 miles away from us. But the year before it was like 60 degrees on christmas day. I was miserable that whole day because of the mild weather.

Oh, I completely agree. Warm Christmas's just don't work for me. I'm saying that I just don't like to go out on Christmas, and the cold doesn't help that sentiment. I still do it anyways, and there are times I love the cold. :D

I want to say "home" because that's my nest, and always a great place for Christmas. However, the family prefers to gather at Mom and Dad's place, so that's where I go. No fun spending Christmas alone no matter now nice the digs are.

Home. We used to go visiting but when we had our daughter we decided no more. We did not like the idea of taking our kids out of the house on Christmas. Everyone comes to our house for either Christmas breakfest or Christmas dinner.

We live in the Orlando, Florida area, so......it's usually warm on Christmas. Since I've never had a white Christmas, it's normal for me.

We do both. We stay in Christmas morning with the kids until about Noon. Then we pack up and go to my parent's house. We spend a few hours there and then head on to my in-laws house.

There have been Christmases where it's been "Florida" cold (around 60) and many in the mid-70's and low 80's.

It's still my MOST favorite holiday of ALL!!!!!!!

With my spouse not being a social person, we usually stay home and spend time with the next door neighbors grandkids. They get some cool presents that the older boys (grandfather, father and my husband) need to make sure that the present is safe for the little ones. Lots of good food and company, snow or not.

Well, we kinda do both! When I was a kid, my friend and her family used to come over to our house on Christmas Eve and we'd go to them on Boxing Day. Now we've grown up and I'm now over here in Scotland, we spend every second year in Canada with her and her own family!! This year, we're home as we were in Montreal Christmas, 2006. Must say, it came as a bit of a shock being able to walk around in a sweatshirt due to the serious lack of winter weather!!!!!!!!!!!:playing:

For me, being "home for Christmas" means going to my parents house with all my brothers & sisters/inlaws/nieces & nephews! I have never been away for Christmas. We go to my parents for Christmas Eve & my inlaws for Christmas day. Some year I would like to have my inlaws all at our house, (since they don't decorate much, or really get into the spirit) but that will probably never happen. I would love to host a holiday party sometime for friends & family...but everybody is already so busy at Christmas, I'm not sure that they would want to cram in another party.

I couldn't live any closer to my parents and my hubby's parents unless we lived WITH them! We ALL live in the same neighborhood. We live near the front of the subdivision, my parents live in the left "corner" and my in-laws live in the right "corner".

It has been wonderful having them be so close by especially while raising our kids! They would "fight" over whose turn it was to have the kids on a Saturday night so my husband and I could have a date!! What a problem to have, LOL!!

Also, my kids are VERY close to their grandparents! Both of our families truly love each other, so it couldn't be a better setup!!

When our kids were small we stayed home, we never wanted to take them away from their home on Christmas.
Now they all have homes of their own and follow the same traditions so it's up to my hubby and I to go and visit them on Christmas Day. Hubby would rather stay home, he works so much and loves to be home when it's possible.
But of course sometimes the weather gets too nasty for traveling so we are forced to stay home alone.

Everyone comes over to my (parents) house. It's not a huge house, but its the biggest in the family, thats why everyone comes here. It's so fun, its about 35 of us crammed into out little living room to open presents, eat, ect. Watching a Christmas Story is a big deal in my house. Or football, usually both.

I'm from New England, so I love to have Christmas at home. There is always a chance of snow, or to see a moose in the backyard on Christmas morning. And it's nice to be able to go to the usual candlelit carols at church. But I do have this dream to--just once-- fly away and have a tropical Christmas for a change!

:rudolph:My husband and I stay home christmas day. It's a nice relaxing day we enjoy with my two stepsons. We open gifts, have a special breakfast. For dinner I make a ham, and other dishes to go with it. I also do lots of baking, so later on when we're not full anymore, we enjoy coffee and dessert. Christmas presents are opened in the morning, and stockings after dinner. WE enjoy the day together watching movies on tv or listening to christmas CD's.

We will most likely just visit in the neighbourhood and hand out some Christmas cookies!

Christmas at home is best for me. All the travelling and getting there kind of annoys me. I like relaxing at home in my own bed and chilling out. I'm always more comfy in my own space than in like my grandma's. My fiance and I are really comfortable at my moms house as well (which is about 30-45 minutes from where we are).

Pre-kids, we would head back to MA to see our family. Post-kids, we've stayed home. Although I miss being around my entire family on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day lunch.

Overall, we'll probably stay home, especially as the kids get older. DS already knows who Santa is (and gets very excited about him), so I doubt we'll go anywhere.

We're another fortunate family that lives within a short distance from each other. We all live in the same neighborhood on my side of the family, with the same situation someone else mentioned...my grandfather gave us all property to put houses on. My middle brother has moved, but my youngest brother and my mom live just a few doors from us. DH's youngest sister lives in our town, but his older sister lives about 100 miles from us.

We have a Christmas Eve breakfast with his sisters and nieces, and rotate hosting chores. It's fun when SIL has it at her house and we all go down there and spend the night before, then get up Christmas Eve morning and have breakfast and open presents....then we come home and host Christmas Eve dinner at our house for some of my family who doesn't have inlaws to go to, and our best friends.

Christmas morning we get up and open Santa gifts and gifts from each other, then head to my Mom's for another Christmas breakfast with my family. Then we come home and have soup for dinner later that night!

So, I guess I have the best of both worlds! Wonder why I never realized that before! :-?

We had Christmas at home last year, but the thing was we invited over a bunch of family to stay for about a week or longer. While some of it was fun, other parts of it wasn't as pretty or nice as a Hallmark moment. Some folks didn't take into consideration of others, there was bickering over petty stuff, and I felt like the only piece and quite I could have was in my bedroom away from it all as my house was a madhouse with kids running around, tvs and radios blarring, and craziness everywhere.

I enjoy the company of loved ones, but I think when it becomes an extended period of time, the hallmark-esque moments that we all anticipate it to be inspired by Thomas Kincade and Coca Cola turn more into reality than a postcard. All that stated, I think I want to stay home for Christmas, but I don't know if I want to open up my house this year...or if I do, maybe not for an extended amount. It's bad enough Christmas flies by...we felt like we really didn't get a chance to enjoy ourselves due to being a host to the families that were here.

Maybe that sounds selfish of us this year, but our goal is to slow down and enjoy Christmas as our own immediate family instead of doing the big family function thing. We tried it and found that it isn't our cup of tea. I commend those who do it year in and year out...and have the motivation and drive to look forward to doing it every Christmas season.

For the last 7 or 8 years everyone comes to my house on Christmas Eve. The reason originally was so that those with little ones could stay home on Christmas Day and the kids could enjoy their gifts and not be out all day going from house to house. But now it has become a tradition. I like to spend Christmas Day at home in my pajamas watching anything Christmas on the tv or listen to Christmas music all day long. Plus I need to recuperate from the night before.

When my kids were small we always stayed home. When they grew up most of them would come home. My daughter in Louisiana would bag her kids gifts up in black plastic trash bags, so they wouldn't see them. Now that most of the grandkids are grown too, of course, they go to their parents. I usually spend Christmas at one of my kids houses. It's wonderful, and much less work for me, but I still get nostalgic when I think of the old days.

We don't really have a choice. It is my mom's house for brunch by 11am! Then off to the inlaws for dinner by 1pm. It is a half hour drive to the inlaws, so we can't stay long at my parents house. We end up staying at the inlaws til about 7pm and then off to home exhausted! Christmas day is always away from home. I figure when both my boys are off on thier own with thier own families, I will then have Christmas Day at my house for my immediate family. Currently, we do Christmas Eve with myself, hubby and the 2 boys with a finger food like dinner and exchange of the gifts.

For me - it's all good!

I just extend "Christmas" to mean whenever and wherever I am with people I love. For example, this year - a big part of Christmas was in August! I didn't decorate or talk about it -- but I was absolutely in the "Christmas zone". I love every last detail of decorating and preparing for Christmas!!! But the real Christmas for me does not happen in a time or a place -- it happens in my heart and soul. Long live Christmas!

well...Iīve stayed home over all three days of Christmas....on Christmas Eve, my parents, my brother and I used to have a little lunch and sing Christmas Songs and unwrapped the presents by around 2 oīclock....then we would drive to the cemetry "visit" gone relatives...then weīd go to my fatherīs mother for coffee, cakes and tarts...celebrating singing....and unwrapping the presents again....from there weīd go to my motherīs parents for Christmas celebration..including singing, homemade music, unwrapping presents...and of course dinner......One December 25th, we would go over to my motherīs parents for the whole day.....26th was my fatherīs parents day on Christmas....but when my grandfather died....we gathered the whole family at our place on the 25th......but the big day...the 24th stayed like that...until my fatherīs moms died.....

Today, my finacee and our daughter go to my mother in the morning....so I help out with the lunch....then we eat spend some time, visit church...then the cemetry and then my momīs parents....25th and 26th always change from year to year....this yera we are visiting my bro and family....since they will have a newborn around that time...so they should stay at home...and shouldnīt have the feeling of having to drive around with the little one...:D...wow that was a long message

well...Iīve stayed home over all three days of Christmas....on Christmas Eve, my parents, my brother and I used to have a little lunch and sing Christmas Songs and unwrapped the presents by around 2 oīclock....then we would drive to the cemetry "visit" gone relatives...then weīd go to my fatherīs mother for coffee, cakes and tarts...celebrating singing....and unwrapping the presents again....from there weīd go to my motherīs parents for Christmas celebration..including singing, homemade music, unwrapping presents...and of course dinner......One December 25th, we would go over to my motherīs parents for the whole day.....26th was my fatherīs parents day on Christmas....but when my grandfather died....we gathered the whole family at our place on the 25th......but the big day...the 24th stayed like that...until my fatherīs moms died.....

=Just thought that I would bump for our new family members here at MMC

We like to stay at home. We are so busy with DD birthday on Christmas Eve and church service that my kids just want to stay home and play with their new toys and never change out of the PJ's. DH's parents come and visit for a little bit (maybe 2 hours) and that is it.

My family lives out of state so we have Chrsitmas with my Dad in Nov and then my mom comes to visit the day after Christmas.

I like to stop at home so Joseph can play with his toys. I like to relax as much as possible over Christmas so i can enjoy better. I think you remember it better if the time goes slow,if you rush round the time goes quick.

My most treasured memories of Christmas were before my parents got divorced and we had to break it up...Christmas Eve at my Dad's, then Christmas Morning and Day at my Mom's. Both of my parents passed away within a year of each other and my sister kind of took over. Finally, three years ago I decided that I wanted my own holidays my own way. My sister took it with incredible grace, so...

I am the lead tenor in my church choir so Christmas Eve is at church. I entertain with an open house afterward for choir members and close friends. Christmas day I get to spend all by myself (I am single) with great relish. Later that evening I go to a dear friend's house where I have become an extended family member and have an incredible time.

December 26th my brother and his kids drive down from Northern California and stay with me for a week. On December 27th I host "Family Christmas Dinner" for my sister and her family, my brother and his family, my stepfather (one of the greatest human beings on the planet) and his girfriend. The gift exchange is forbidden except quietly between my brother, sister, and myself in the next room. This is to keep friction about who does and does not get gifts to a minimum (it actually happened one year so I switched from "Family Christmas" to "Family Christmas Dinner" to avoid that. All in all - I totally love my Christmas.

Wow! I typed a lot!

Although we grew up in Wisconsin, both of my brothers now live in the San Francisco Bay area, and it's more convenient for us to fly out there then for them (and their families) to come to Wisconsin. On the plus side, they both have big spacious houses, perfect for family get-togethers. But I miss the snow, and I miss going to our home parish for mass on Christmas, which with its big turnout, means seeing all sorts of old friends.

That being said, we all had a wonderful time having the whole family together for Christmas out in California last year.

I prefer to stay at home. My family has always done Christmas at my house and it has become a great tradition. I am a sucker for traditions....

I like having a busy Christmas day out visiting everyone. We spend the morning at home just the two of us, then off to the in-laws, then to my parents for the rest of the day. If I had a bigger house, I would love to host everyone though.

Hear that Santa? I want a new house for Christmas! :)

When my daughter was young I would take her to the grandparents on Christmas Day, now we prefer to spend the day at home. I have several stepchildren and they wander in and out on Christmas Day also. Home is my favorite place to be everyday.
