What is a tacky display to you?
I personally think all white lights are tacky and all multi colored lights are tacky. I am one that decorates like I garden. That could be bad to some but I like all blue or all green or all red on one bush and the next bush can be all one color. The same with my trees. My lawn is multi colored and my roof lights are a blend of white and multi colored. To me it is pleasing to the eye. I like a strength of one color then another. When they get scattered they look bad. What do you like and what do you think constitutes tacky displays.
This does not mean gross like lights falling off the roof and one string of lights going across the porch that are not all lit. I am talking tacky displays where everything is lit and hanging straight. Where they had to work at making it tacky.

I'm the king of tacky. In my yard and house, if it can't get up and walk away, it gets lights put on it. My house looks like Clark Griswold's, only with more lights than he has. But I appreciate the more artistic look too. I just started doing what I do because when I first moved in my house, we didn't have hardly any trees, shrubs, columns to work with, so I just put lights all over the sides of the house and the roof. Now it's become such a tradition, nobody will let me back off of it. I'm doing the computer controlled music/light show this year.
