Ours are up until the Feast of the Epiphany, the recognized end of the Christmas season of the Catholic Church. Although because of an impending move we took ours down just a day after Christmas one year, that was a wierd feeling.

Outdoor decorations come down the first weekend in January that doesn't have rain or snow.
The indoor decorations come down the same time, only weather isn't an issue there. However, every year there is something I forgot to put away that is decorating the inside of my china cabinet or some other forgotten corner.

Our decorations go up once Advent arrives and come down New Year's Day or the day after.
It depends on what is going on socially for us. If we don't have anyone coming over for Christmas festivities after Christmas is over, we will take them down right after Christmas. If, due to schedule conflicts, we have some ongoing Christmas festivities...then they well stay up longer. Also...if we're feeling especially sad that Christmas is over...we might leave them up longer...or intentionally leave one or two things displayed all year. (Currently we have three Christmas plates displayed)

I can understand that. Our decoration that are in the inside come down sooner than the ones on the outside. But like you said it depends on what is going on socially in our home as well. :hello:

Ours ALWAYS have to be down by Twelfth Night (January 5th) Otherwise it's considered bad luck.:snowball:
That said, I've still got a Christmas plate up just to test the theory.......

I was wondering where we got that tradition in our family. As my father's family is from Scotland. Thanks for solving a mystery for me.

I put mine up the week after Halloween and then take them down mid-the end of January. I do a lot inside and to me its also my winter display, so I never get sick of it, I love it as long as I can! I could never take them down before New Years, new years is part of it still, liek the song says, We Wish You a Merry Xmas AND a Happy New Year!!!!

:tree:We generally start putting up decorations the week of halloween or the first week in november and we generally have everything down by the end of January give or take a week. This past christmas our tree remained up till May undecorated, only because my dad hurt his back and couldn't bring it down to the basement. He wanted to leave it up for good and decorate it for the seasons but it has fake snow on it plus, i love the anticipation of not seeing it and then bringing it out for the holiday season. If we had a bigger house we wanted to put up our christmas villiage year round and have a christmas room to peak at every now and then cheesy

We take down our outside decorations right after New Years and leave our inside decorations out until we have the time to get to them. We love Christmas so we put 'em up early, and take 'em down late.

I start putting my decorations up inside after Thanksgiving Day and outside I take advantage of any warm day.
Inside I leave the decorations up the month of January, it's usually a icky month soooooooo long that I figure I have lots of time to take down decorations. Outside I take advantage of any warmer day in January. Living in the north where it's cold and icky the weather predicts what you will do.

Ours usually come down Christmas day or the day after. As far as leaving them up all year, I leave out a few things, but I would not want everything up all year. where is the fun in that? You dont have anticipation in October to put them up, no joy when you finally pull out all the boxes, no fun putting them up. For me It would not be Christmas w/o all that.

I usually put mine up either the first or second weekend in November. If not then, then we put them up the day or day after Thanksgiving. We take them down usually the week or two after christmas.
Fun Fact: In Portland, Maine it's actually illegal to leave your christmas decorations up past January 17th.

Inside stuff comes down a day or two after New Years.
Outside is such a massive project that sometimes it comes down in phases. Most years it's down by February, but there have been times it took until March.

Our outside stuff will go up next weekend....with the help of our daughter, who will be home for Thanksgiving break. Our inside decorations will go up the day after Thanksgiving. I can't wait! Outside decorations are usually down by New Year's Day. Inside decorations come down the week of New Year's. Growing up, we took the tree down after the 6th. This is a huge compromise from my hubby. His family decorated the week of Christmas. They were usually down a few days after Christmas. I would not have that at all! So much for compromise.....well, except that our tree usually goes up the first weekend in December because he knows how much I LOVE Christmas!

I usually take them down a day or two after New Years. If I didn't, the home owner's association would start hounding me, not to mention I don't want to fall into the category of those who leave them up all year, though sometimes I wouldn't mind it. I love decorating my house, but I hate taking them down.

I must confess that this year my Christmas Village and My Nativity scene are still not packed, the boxes for them were damaged in last months flood, and it took me until last week to finally find something for them to go in. Not lazy or obsessed, just busy as can be since Dec. At this rate I might just wanna leave them out LOL

Since I'm living in my apartment for college, I still stay with my parents until the new semester starts. I put my decorations up around the apartment when I get back from visiting for Thanksgiving. I take them down (except I still have some snowmen around here) when I get back from winter break.
I read a lot about people wanting to leave theirs up longer than they do. Here's something to tell the significant others and neighbors: Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on January 19, and it would just be downright rude to take the decorations down before that! cheesy

Our tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving & comes down the weekend before my January 13th birthday.
Part of the holiday joy we imerse ourselves in on that special Friday is decorating the house & trimming the tree. It takes us over two days to empty the ornament box. While we happy elves are hard at our tasks, we play holiday music videos & movies. (The movies also play when the process is reversed at the end of the season.) The tinsel on our Friday holiday celebration is delivered pizza for supper & Santa Cokes throughout the evening. We don't call it a night until about 3:00 AM.

I start listening to Christmas music in the car November 1st, Merry Christmas Radio anytime doesn't count, but the decorations don't go up until the day after Thanksgiving & come down the weekend before my January 13th birthday. I bow to your level of commitment. That would never fly with the rest of our household.
