The high school where my sister attends as a Junior is currently in code red lock-down. There were students with guns found in their backpacks and not a lot of information is leaking out at this point...just that, at this time, there may have been shots fired but all students appear to be safe and they're not letting anyone in or out.

I'm absolutely terrified, please pray, meditate, send positive thoughts, whatever it is that you do, that all the students are safe. They must be so terrified.

Associated Press - August 28, 2007 2:04 PM ET
PONTIAC, Ill. (AP) - Police say three people have been arrested and six guns were recovered after a lock down at a central Illinois high school.
Pontiac Police Major Jim Woolford says he's confident all those connected to the incident have been taken into custody. A dispatcher at the city's police department declined to comment further.
It was unclear if the three were students at the 900-student Pontiac High School.
Superintendent Leo Johnson says no student was harmed and no "acts of violence" took place.
The investigation began this morning after authorities received a tip. At least one weapon was found inside a book bag.

Yep, that's the one. Thankfully everyone is fine but understandably shaken up. The word from a fairly reliable source is that some of the weapons were semi-automatic. This could have been *so* bad. Thank God for that kid who did the right thing by turning these students in.

This is absolutely terrifying to me and what really burns me is that, at the press conference, they kept saying that "the students were never in any *real* danger". Ummm..yeah. There were six weapons brought into the school, the kids were definitely in danger. I hate that they're trying to play this down like that. It's not that I want panic but to say that there wasn't any danger is not even close to the truth.

I'm still shaking from head to toe. They had to lock down all the grade schools as well...my little 2 year old nephew was stuck in a pre-school class. This is awful!!

Sorry for being a wrecked up downer today...this just really has me rattled...need to go listen to some Christmas music or something to calm myself down.

I'm in complete agreement with you on "there was no real danger". Please..... the so called authorities thrive on the this. I think at the next PTA or partent teacher night something might want to be brought up and discussed. Not only do you have a traumatic experience for the children, but those parents of those children. After Virginia Tech, Columbine and others, crazy, angry people do stupid, crazy cruel things. I'm a registered gun owner and even my son would get his little butt whipped after he got out of jail for doing something so stupid. Shame on those parents for not protecting their own children from the weapons from their own homes. I'm glad you family is ok and the rest of the schools population. Not that it is necessary, but some type of counselling should be in order from the school. Our prayers are with you. Have a good listen to the Christmas music, and take some deep breaths.

Thanks. I'm a little calmer this morning although still my nerves are still a bit taut, kwim? Thankfully, the school is providing counseling. Some counselors from the community have come forward to make themselves available to speak to the students today as well as many members of the community clergy. There will be a lot of support for students, faculty and parents to help process what has happened and to deal with the reality of what almost happened.

Makes me wonder what this world is coming to but, then I'm reminded that there's still some good and that's very evident when I think about the fact that everyone came out of this safe.
