I like the thought of preserving the handwriting of those who have passed on by using the old cards in craft projects/scrapbooking.
We usually use the old cards as tags for gifts. Saves a little money, and you can make cute tags!

I never have to buy gift tags, I make them from the Christmas cards I receive. But with the cost of stamps so high I may get less cards this year so I might end up buying some or making some on my pc.

You can make cute little boxes with old Christmas cards. You just get a pattern for the top and bottom of the box and cut it out of the card. Then glue the corners and you have a cute, one of a kind, gift box.
