Hi Kelly Ann,
You're going to see lots of stuff out there but if you want serious, outrageous, passionate examples of Christmas lights -- including lots of advice I recommend that you check out PlanetChristmas.com. Those guys are crazy.

Here is one of mine from last year.
Honest, the folks at Planet Christmas are not "crazy" we're just into lights. I started doing outdoor lights in 1994 with one nativity set and a lighted wreath in the picture window. It slowly grew into what you see here. I love doing it though. There is nothing that is more comforting to my spirit during the holiday season than to come home to a Christmas wonderland. If I start to feel a little glum, I just take a walk around my house at night.

Phew, I feel better now, thanks Martha! (wink)
Many of us feel you can't have a holiday, without outside decorating, to share your joy of the holiday with the neighbors (primarily the kids).
To the original question, here's a link to our family display (you can see an old video from 2 seasons back. I haven't had time to get last season's uploaded (it was a much better display, as it was our 30th year of decorating!).

Kudos to all of you who do that. I love decorating my house, but I unfortunately do not have the capability (as a recent disabled veteran) to put forth all the effort and hard work in displaying a wonderland like many of you. I wish I could, I'd love to do it...but I'll leave it up to all of you guys as I love driving around the neighborhoods looking for them. You make the holiday season even more worth while.

Decorating the outside of our house is just as important as the inside. We put a few lights on the front but we put our displays and inflatables in our back yard (too many problems with teens distroying things), we can enjoy our lights more in the back yard as our kitchen and family room face it.

That is a very smart thing to do and a very good idea. And as long as you enjoy it and it helps bring you in the Christmas spirit, that is all that matters.

Nice lights everyone.
We just did the Icicle lights last year. This year I hope to add deer and trees. And a better porch rail display.
