Wow, that's quite the scathing review on The Polar Express just posted here on MMC.

Of course, considering the author, there was no doubt where this review was going. I don't think Jeff has seen a good Christmas movie since the silent version of A Christmas Carol.

Has anyone else seen it?

Sorry. I refuse to be sucked in by the hype. I was offended by the craftsmanship of the movie which seemed more intent on pre-selling a video game based upon the movie rather than doing much to send the intended message of the book.

Plus, honestly, the computer animation of this movie really creeped me out. They moved okay but the eyes and the mouths were very weird.

Did you or did you not like this movie( sorry that was just a joke  ) I certianly hope this wont be the second disappointment for me this year as far a christmas movies go. 2 down and 2 to go, I hope Christmas with the Kranks( I really liked the book) and Noel are at least likable .You know we should make a movie

You have NO idea of the "movies" I've got running in my head. I have at least three AWESOME Christmas movies ready to go....if I could only get someone's attention.

It is not that I didn't like the Polar Express. I was just let down given the hype and the talent behind it. Really, the script was really weak and that just killed it for me. The other thing about the animation -- which was brilliant -- is that they did not get the eyes or the mouths on any of the characters right. Everyone had these doe eyes...and they were kind of creepy to watch. And all the mouths were black holes with a meaty tongue thrown in now and then. I personally think that if they had gone to the Pixar folks they could have helped.

oh my goodness~~Jeff you may not want to read this~~my daughter and I went to see Polar Express this evening. WE BOTH LIKED IT. The mouths on the people were weird and the guy on top of the train was a bit creepy but other then that it was fun. Way better then surviving Christmas.

I liked Polar Express. Just didn't like the way they did the elves. But then again, I never like the way they do elves in movies.

Good for you, gracie! Of course, coming off a stinker like Surviving Christmas might have tainted your experience with Polar Express. I watched Miracle on 34th Street the other day before seeing Polar Express so maybe that influenced me.

The preview for Christmas with the Kranks did not look very hopeful.

None I have seen tho measure up to A Christmas Story. You do like that one ,right?

I'm not anti-Christmas movies! I just have high standards. Santa Clause 2, Elf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas -- all el stinko. Polar Express was just okay, as was the newer version of Miracle on 34th Street.

Santa Claus I, the Muppet Christmas Carol, Christmas Vacation -- all tops.

I've got this great Christmas movie rolling around in my head...anyone know anyone in the movie business?

I agree, I personally am suspicious of the movie. I was at first interested, but after seeing ads for it I didn't enjoy the way it looked. So I haven't made up my mind as to whether I want to see it now or not, as I'm afraid it just might ruin my enjoyment of the original book if I end up not caring for it.

The advantage of not having 20/20 vision is that you don't see imperfections as often. I thought everyone looked a little wooden, but pretty cool nonetheless. We managed to see it the weekend before release. Just happened across it showing on one screen when we were looking for another movie. Very enjoyable, though it was over before you knew it and seemed a little thin on storyline. I guess it is easy to believe when the Polar Express takes you on a trip to the North Pole, but for the rest of us, we live by faith, not by sight. (Slight misapplication of scripture there!). It must have been a cheap movie to make. One guy plays five parts!
