No offense to the folks across the pond, but why in the world are they trying to make Santa a slimmer, trimmer jolly man? Santa is the ultimate good looking, jolly, fat man (fat as in fabulous and thick). Would Santa look right to you if he was a skinny man in a red suit? I find it highly offensive that people feel the need to try and kill what little bit of jolliness the hard working man has. He has a right to his cookies and milk. Leave him alone. One man is not the reason for our children being overweight. Back off and leave Santa alone, he is just fine the way he is, besides doesn't he get enough exercise going up and down all those chimmneys and vaulting over fences to avoid rabid nasty dogs? Someone needs to solve a real problem and leave the friendliest, jolliest, and one of the most generous people alone.

Santa is being told to slim down or risk being evicted from shopping centers in the UK

I think it's all a bit too confusing for the kids, Barbie's being told to beef up but Santa has to slim down? I don't think Kids are as influenced by Santa because he's not really in their face all year round, And I have never met a kid who wanted to put on weight to look like Santa, have you? It's ridiculous

Threads merged!

I'm guessing some PR company has put this out following a report by the government that said that by 2050 the UK would sink because of all the obese people ;-)

They knew putting santa on a diet would get some publicity for blue water (the biggest mall in the London area) and it did!

Trimmer santas are not the solution to obesity

obesity begins & ends with the individual. Whether its a disease or not, its not Santas fault & its not mcdonalds fault

I agree with you guys, we all can't be supermodel thin or have abs hard as steel. Santa needs to stay pleasantly plump and we need to quit listening to the stupid numbers that the media and advertising geniuses have come up with. Granted I don't like being a size 16 and I'm doing something about it. But don't blame it on someone/something else.

This has to be a joke? Look at those Santas in the pictures -- how pathetic is that? Santa is all about money for the shopping centers and without him they'd just have less of it. No shopping center in their right mind is going to mess with Santa. Someone's pushing an agenda here or just trying to pull a prank. I'm not buying it.

It is time for people to take some responsibility for themselves. Obesity certainly is not Santa's fault. Seeing Santa is not making people overweight. Parents buying too much junk food and letting their children sit around all day playing video games is more to blame than Santa. That is ridiculous.

I think one of things people don't take into consideration as well is all the prescription meds kids are put on these days. Go to just about any public school and you've got teachers wanting to hand out the ritalin like candy. They get on that stuff, become zombies and then sit around and over eat. Before too long, they feel bad for being fat and unaccepted so they're doped up on anti-depressants which only contributes things.

Santa most certainly is not a bad example in any way.

He's the most active fat man on the face of the planet.

Well, with the box of Oreos and the sandwiches we leave out, it's not surprising. Plus, you've got to remember, it's COLD out there - he needs the insulation!!!

What about the reindeers!?! They do lots of the work as well! We leave some carrots out and if it's really cold on Christmas eve even a bran mash sometimes.

Maureen

I don't think they're so worried about skinny reindeer - but just in case, better make that bran mash low-calorie!!!

No skinny Santa for me either.

But I did find it interesting that over in the UK they leave Santa mince pies. Over here in the US he gets cookies and milk. I wonder what kids in other countries leave him? It would be interesting to know what Santa feasts on all night.

Eww ick, nasty! I loath Oreo cookies :D
That is one cookie that has never donned my cupboards. No one in this family likes them. Im sure Santa enjoys them though :)

talk about craziness, I mean I realize it is only three pages but hardly any of the posts I put up have ever hit page three I dont think anyhow. Well it isnt a joke, I talked to a friend of mine yesterday from London and she said that they are wanting to do the same thing in Ireland and Scotland too. Gezz what in the world are they trying to pull. And who says he is FAT anyhow? that could be lotsa muscle that just bulged out of proportion (yea I will go with that thought). It is about as bad as when they pulled all the seasons of fat albert off the shelves because they said that he was influencing kids to eat more, NO WAY I realize kids today are affected by TV and such but comeon. It only takes the parents or caregivers to take over and tell them that FAT ALBERT is only a cartoon (with good lessons on great things). BUt as for Santa slimming down, I am sorry but my bird finger is slowly raising itself up in a bad way- LEAVE HIM ALONE already. He hasn;t ever done anything to hurt anyone.

In all honesty, I haven't heard it mentioned in Scotland, except where they're referring to the original piece. The Scottish people know to leave a good thing alone!!

ok this is Mister Hollyjells, I HOPE they don't go there in Scotland or Ireland because as a person of direct scottish linage myself I would be seriously offended. My father would be as well, since he is as scottish as they get. Mrs. HJ was reading this peice to me the other day and I about flipped my hat. So he is fat or whatnot, don't make him the scapegoat for kids being chunky, if parents would get their kids out to do more things, even if it was just on weekends then they would find that obesity isn't really the issue anymore. Mrs. HJ is kinda of big herself but not as she once was. She actually played Mrs. Santa in a few Christmas shows in our area, that is how I found her and fell in love with her. I myself am not a big guy but Santa has all my admiration when it comes to being one of the busiest people in the whole world, even if he is scrambling up and down chimneys one night a year- I wonder how far ahead he starts to train for that job? MERRY CHRISTMAS. Oh I know why Santa is a big guy, he has to have a large body to hold that really big heart, the same heart he gives all his love to us with.
