On Christmas day, do you eat turkey or ham for your Christmas Dinner? I eat ham, it's a tradition at my house.

We don't really have a tradition as to what we eat on christmas day.
Sometimes it's turkey, sometimes trout, sometimes steak.
I've heard about ham as a traditional christmas dish, but never could find a recipe. Can somebody put up a recipe here?
Would'nt mind to try it out this year.

We have a complete Christmas buffet, which includes baked turkey, fried turkey, maple ham, fried chicken, salmon, greens, green beans, mac & cheese, sweet potatos, wild rice, rolls, and tons of deserts. We try to have something for every adult and every child.

It is always Turkey here on Christmas but if any of the men have killed a deer we also have venison which I marinate for a couple days before baking on Christmas. Yummy! http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a289/Lizilu2/turkey.gif

8-) I much prefer turkey to ham, in fact I would prefer pork roast or veal to ham -even pickerel, but that doesn't sound very Christmassy. I am not a big fan of ham - I do not like green eggs and ham.
My mother prepares Turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner and Ham for Boxing Day.

I have lived in many places and have eaten a lot of things, but trout for Christmas is a new one for me. You must have a very flexible family. I think all our Christmas dinners have hovered around the barnyard variety main dish. One year we had cornish hens. Deep fried turkey is a favorite as well.

on my mothers side of the family.. we usually have a buffet style meal with turkey and ham along with mashed potatos, creamed stringbeans..etc.
on my fathers side of the family which is italian.. sicilian to be technical and they have a complete different selection. there we have a lot of shell fish (such as muscles, shrimp, crab and lobster ) and pasta dishes to choose from.
both meals are yummy to me so i'm happy at either place! lol

Turkey. It isn't Christmas Eve if I can't smell the turkey cooking.
My Mum told me she's not cooking one this year, and will just heat up some turkey breasts. I'm rebelling, and buying a turkey. It just wouldn't be right without one!

Spiral sliced ham from one of those specialty ham shops. There's enough to do even if we don't cook the ham ourselves. Listen to me, as if I had anything to do with it! 8) The closest I have come to cooking is helping deep fry turkeys at work.

When in Rome do as the Romans. We have lived in a number of different countries and try to live more or less like the locals. Imagine our surprise when tubs of live carp showed up for sale on street corners just days before Christmas. The live fish are kept in the family bathtub until Christmas Eve when they are prepared and eaten. We had a friend prepare the carp in our house last year as a supplement to the nice big ham.
Photos are posted on our family Christmas page.

This year it's Ham and a roasted chicken. My mother insisted on having a ham, the origional plan was to do several pork tenderloins, but my mum wouldn't have that; so ham and chicken is on the menu for X-mas Eve.

:hello: I will usually cook a ham on Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve is one of the two days a year I look forward to all year long. (The other day being the American Idol Finale.) I don't do turkey on Christmas
because I make such a large one at Thanksgiving, that there is usually turky meat still in the freezer on Christmas Eve. I make pork pies, stuffed cabbage, holiday lasagna and all kinds of goodies on Christmas Eve.

Yes, I am definitely a Rachel Ray fan. Someone on the forum mentioned turducken. We had that along with our maple-brined turkey and all the trimmings last year. I love all the traditional things, but I also like to experiment and add new and interesting things, too. I have a recipe for doing your own turducken, but it is highly involved. It is probably cheaper to order like we did (but even that wasn't cheap!!!). I am famous at my school for being the teacher who does all her Thanksgiving Day meal in my (seven or eight) crockpots--no lie!!!

I am ashamed to say I have no idea what a turducken is. Is it a turkey, duck and chicken dish?

My husband's family is all about the turkey so it's an absolute must. My family always had both and actually prefer ham to turkey.
