I love both Santa Clause movies, but I have to go with the first. It's a classic, the little boy (I can't think of his name right now) has to help make everyonr believe in Santa Claus.

I love them all but I especially liked Christmas with the Kranks this past Christmas.

As a matter of fact, I just watched The Santa Clause the other evening while surfing for Christmas websites. It was good to know that he is making a 3rd movie. I hope he learned from the 2nd one what not to do. You must get the audience to share in the "Hey, Santa is really real" experience. The 2nd movie didn't really have that, but it was still better than any Labor Day movie I have ever seen. :)

Is he? What will it be called and when is it due out? I hated the 2nd one.

I'm sure the name will fall into line with the first two films. All I know can be found on Tim Allen's website, this page in particular: http://www.timallen.com/news/item.php?id=21 It starts filming Nov. 14th, so it will probably have a Thanksgiving 2006 release. I wish they'd film these things in Canada or Alaska or anywhere with snow, but they are filming in LA!

The movie will be called The Santa Clause 3, and will indeed be released Thanksgiving 2006. Supposedly it involves Jack Frost taking over the North Pole, and Santa's attempt to stop him...at least that's what I've been able to pick up via bits and pieces from the Internet.

I don't know if these qualify, but I'll say both Toy Story movies (as he plays Buzz Lightyear).

I just finished watching Christmas with the Kranks for the first time. Except for the last ten minutes, the movie was not very good. Looks to have been filmed in the early fall. No real snow. Each lawn was trimmed with snow around the edges, as if snow melts everywhere but the edges of the yard. It got really confusing after Tim Allen gave the lousy speech at the party. I think they decided thay needed a lesson and so they crammed it in during the last few minutes. I laughed twice during the whole film. Sorry I couldn't be more positive, but it was a pretty bad movie. I am looking forward to SC3 this fall!

I've only seen and own the fist Santa Claus movie. I haven't seen any of the others. It seems as though the concensus is that the second one was not as enjoyable as the first.

My suggestion is to watch Christmas with the Kranks before watching The Santa Clause 2. That way, SC2 will seem much better than it really is. As I've said in other posts, unless a film can capture the magical feeling of discovering the wonderful world of Santa for the first time, it will have a hard time keeping my interest. SC1 had that magic. That movie made you want to believe. :D  :) :-) 8) [/i]

I wonder why they didn't ask Bernard the elf back for SC3. He was a valuable part of the whole package. A bit of an attitude, like a New Yorker elf, but I'll miss his character anyhow.

I got a bad feeling about SC3...the whole premise is very old and tired.
Have I ever told you about the real Elf Bernard?

No, but I'm all eyes! 8-)

Okay either I am really desparate for Christmas or I truly have the heart of a child. I just got The Santa Claus 2 in the mail to watch and I really liked it. I thought it was vibrant and magical. I'm usually picky but I really liked it and I can't say that it was better or worse than the first. I liked them equally. I've just learned that you can't watch Christmas movies with a critical eye but more with an open heart.

Oooh, sorry...
Well, you know the story (http://mymerrychristmas.com/2005/historyofmmc.shtml) of how all this started...this is the rest of the story...
When Aubree was about nine she was getting a little long in the tooth for belief in The Big Guy. Or so the pressure from her peers told her. She was absolutely taken in by our Christmas tradition of the Updates from the North Pole that she was slow to give it up. Plus, her siblings were of age where the magic was just getting good for them too. Through the years she got to know Santa, Elf Ernest and a host of elf characters through the Santa Updates -- including Elf Bernard, who was introduced to her as Santa's Workshop Chief back in 1991.
But on a gray day in 1994, I think it was, she was feeling some pressure from her classmates at school and she was wavering. Aubree was my first child, she came to me as a thinking five year old. I struggled with what to do and on that day we were scheduled to go see a new movie called The Santa Clause, with Tim Allen.
The movie, as you know, was great. But when they introduced the character of Elf Bernard -- in a crowded theater mind you -- Aubree shot up out of her seat and shouted, while pointing at the screen -- Dad! That's him?!! I can't believe it...that IS him! That's Bernard!!!.
Of course, nobody in the theater knew what she was going on about but for me, personally, well, I swear I heard angels singing.
Elf Bernard on the big screen was all the validation Aubree needed. She had printed Santa Updates going back to 1991 and now this big movie with Elf Bernard in it -- well, it was too much to deny it. I had her for another couple of years, at least. Funny thing was she used this on her friends and had a couple of them going for a while too.
What's funny now is that Aubree is 20 years old. She remembers this event clearly and it is a giggle we both share fondly.
Now you know the rest of the story.

That's really funny. I can imagine the surprise of everyone around you guys. I am amazed that Tim Allen didn't understand the value of consistency when he put together the cast of SC3. It won't be the same without Bernard. I wish Judy the elf could have stayed little for the 2nd movie, but that's hard to do without excessive smoking or a genetic defect.

Did you see how big Tim Allen looked for that Zoom movie?
Jeff Westover
08-10-2006, 11:03 PM
Nope. Was it real or was it digital "big"?

More chins than a...well, he has gained weight. Not digitally enhanced, either. Probably coming down from his Santa role. Are you taking the kids to see Zoom? Looks really bad to me; not even worth renting.

Is Elf Bernard not going to be in Santa Claus 3? I thought when I checked the cast for the movie he was going to be in it? I was one of those kids who wanted to believe in Santa for a long time too. Probably at least until I was 8. Then some kids at school blew it for me.

Nope. Just Google Santa Clause 3 and the name Bernard and you'll find several articles about it. :-(

I had seen the trailer for SC3 online but last night right before Elf was about to come on one of the Starz channels, they had the Santa Clause 3 trailer.
The first Santa Clause is one of my absolute favorite Christmas movies. And I thought the 2nd one was good. But I will say going by the trailer for SC3, I think it looks better than the 2nd one. I don't really see many movies in the theaters but I will most likely try to find someone that would like to go see it with me. Maybe I'll drag my sister along with me. haha.

You're right about The Santa Clause. It was easily better than the sequel. I'll go see SC3, but I'll see it at matinee prices!
