Maybe I'm the only one with lack of imagination here but I haven't a clue what to get the men in family for xmas this year. My husband loves and collects Transformers but he has so many I dont know what he got. Its the same every year, I always end up buying toiletries, which admittedly is a cop out really cos I cannot bear to walk around shops all day. I find women are easier to buy for, because I'm a woman myself (lol) I know what they would like, which is usually cosmetics!!!! Anyone else with this problem or am I the only one?

:tree:I have a hard time with getting gifts for my daughters boyfriends, so I end up getting the one a gift card from Bass Pro Shop, & the other one I get his a dress shirt for work. I feel crazy getting the same stuff , but that's all I can think to get them. It's the same way with my brother in law, every year I get his a flannel lined jacket that he can wear for work.
I agree with you women are so much easier to buy for , you can get clothes, bath stuff, candles, anything really & they will love it.

I usually always get my husband knives (he's a collector) I usually get a Smith & Wesson, Winchester and a Buck. They all usually come in a really neat collectors tin. I also got him some Mother Pukers Hot Sauce..

I agree with you guys. Men are awful to buy for. I think the men in my family have every tool there is. I hate to always buy shirts or something, but what else is there to buy for them? If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

I looked earlier when replying to this post for this link...maybe this will help.

Check out www.gifts.com (http://www.gifts.com/) which asks asks you about the recipient and your price range, then hunts down tailor-made options.

My husband is easy to buy for because he is into two things...video games and dvd movies. My father, on the other hand, is the WORST to buy for. Once when I was a kid I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and he said "a hat", so I bought him a pink hat at a Christmas craft show. It was a little girls hat and it didn't fit. He is STILL hard to buy for.

- MP3 player
- Digital Camera
- Video Camera
- Clothing with his favorite pro or college sports team (hats, hoodies, jackets, t-shirts etc.)

dh is hard to buy for too.

Flat Screen TV
- DVD Player.........got it
- DVDs..........If I knew what he liked and could find it, he's a buy what he wants kinda guy, when he sees it.
- Box set of his favorite music artist(s)....we download and have most of what he likes
- GPS System....not something he'd want
- Cell Phone...got one
- MP3 player....me and two of the kids have one, he has no interest
- Digital Camera.......got one and he doesn't use it
- Video Camera....this is one thing he does want..a dvd camera
- Clothing with his favorite pro or college sports team (hats, hoodies, jackets, t-shirts etc.)....he buys what he likes when he sees it
- Tickets to a sporting event...we don't live close to anything like that
- Dress Shirt/Ties (we need them but don't like to buy them)...he buys these all year long, he's a municipal councillor
- Watch...my Dad is the "watch guy" he gets them from him
- A nice pair of sunglasses...a possibility
- A surprise trip for 2 (perhaps a weekend getaway)....couldn't afford it right now
- Gift certificates...maybe, but I don't know where besides Canadian Tire

See Men are hard to buy for!

I hear ya! Try having 3 teenage sons too.

My brother-in-law collects GI Joe's. Since we don't know what he has or hasn't got, we got him a gift certificate to a store that specializes in military toys. Gift certificates to tool places, or electronic places are nice - if they shop a lot there anyway, they can just use the gift certificate the next time they go there, and get what they want. That's what most of the guys on my list are getting this year.

Another suggestion - ask them what they want. (or their wife etc.)

I usually have the opposite problem. Women are hard to buy for. I find it might take a little investigation, but if you know them then you should be able to figure it out.

men aren't hard to buy for you should know them well enough for them to give off hints of what they want it's easy pay attention and you'll know.

my father gave me hints of a new pair of shoes by saying "these shoes are really dogging me lately i really need to replace these" *bam* theres my gift for him new pair of dress shoes for work.

i gave hints to my gf of what i wanted when i went into stores and she knows me well enough that i'm into alot of technology gizmos and what not.

finding what that person likes to do on there free time makes the gift so much easier.

I agree, men are hard to buy for unless you can find that something exciting you know they'll love...not like a shirt and tie or socks..I refuse to buy Sonny any of this anymore.
We were in a conversation with his Mom about a month ago and he began talking about the Lionel train set he had as a kid. It ended up, his Dad gave his train set to Uncle Tony who had a room in his home dedicated to trains which he collected. Sonny said he really missed his trains...
Sooooo...I got a hint listing to him. I have ordered him a Pennsylvania Flyer Lionel Train set this Christmas. (He's from Pa). I can only hope I get the UPS order when it arrives and not him. I really want to surprise him.http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a289/Lizilu2/Christmastrains.gif

My hubby is going to be easy this year b/c my mil bought us a wii and I going to buy him games and accessories. He is always easy to buy for b/c he never buys himself anything and always needs stuff like clothes.
