I need to purchase a Nativity Scene. My parents always had one in their home and we displayed it during Christmas. I just love them. I have glass Christmas Bulbs that have a gold hanger/stand to display different scenes. One for example is of Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus. I got these years ago from a party I attended called House of Llyod (Christmas Around the World). I still would like a wood one with moss and all the figurines to go along with it. I will need to look more into this. I am sure you can find these almost anywhere with the Holiday Season in effect.

Thats a nice one Maureen. I like it. I just got back from taking a family drive out into the forest. My husband, daughter and I collected some pine branches to make a wreath and also moss. I hope to make a Nativity this year and use some of the moss for the roof.

Yes, I have a nice Nativity scene that I got at the Family Christian Book Store. I would love to have the big yard display but I never see Nativity Scenes on sale, they keep the price up on them.
Hey it is Christ mas, so a Nativity Scene should be displayed but in a way it's not good for it tends to keep Jesus a babe in people's eyes and He's not, He's sitting at the right hand of the Father in all His glory.
But Christmas is a celebration of His birth and Joy to the World.

Yes we have two nativity scenes in our display - Mary, Joseph and babe in one and a manger scene with the wise men in the other. We also have a 6ft long rope light 3 wise men on the fence. Because our display is for the public we put up both religious and secular Christmas displays to suit all visitors who come.

Yes, I put one up. I guess actually, I put two up. I have one inside that I won many years ago. I (sometimes) almost wish that I never won it because then I'd have the one my mom made. I gave it to my brother and his wife when I won the one I have. I know they both appreciated it. He has since passed away but she puts it out every year...and yes, I know it's selfish. I keep telling myself that I have other things that my mom made. It does help. We also have Mary, Joseph and Jesus outside. Hubby doesn't want me to get anymore anything to put out....not that we have a big display or anything but what we have does take time to put out. We set our statues in front of a tree and have an angel hanging from the tree. We also have two angels beside the scene and two large stars. After all...this is the reason for this wonderful season. I also have a flag to hang on Christmas Day. I've had it for a few years and have yet to hang it out. I guess the reason is that we get so busy. Maybe, this will be the year.

I have two sets that I put out each year. One is a complete set that my grandmother bought me when I was in high school. Several years ago my mom bought me a creche for it so that all goes under our tree each year. It's one of my favorite decorations.
The other set is a small glass set that my step-daughter bought for me one year. I put that in my window with some lights around/behind it. The lights just sparkle off the glass and it's beautiful!

I have had a beautiful hand made one for many years now. The stable is wood and all the figures are made of clay and hand painted. It includes Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus. The wise men, shepherds and an angel. Sheep, donkey's, camels and a cow. Stands about 18" tall.
I also have several small sets that were gifts from my Sunday school kids. (glass figures and one is an ornament)

We have a porcelain nativity we put up every year that's in a wooden manger scene. We've had it for twelve years now, and it's one of our oldest decorations.

Annette, I was the ones for the outside at Walmart for $45.00, I have to special order the rest if I want them. There is a garden store here that @ Christmas time turns into a Christmas wonderland so I'm going to check there for them. That Christmas bulb sounds really beautiful.

:cold:I love putting out my nativity set. It's a complete set with a manger. WE even have a light for it.It's so peaceful in our living room at night, with the tree lights on, and the nativity lit up.

We put 2 up!
Mary and Joseph "travel" around the house til Decemeber 24th and then baby Jesus arrives on the scene as well. The wise men are added the 6th!
Hugs :yahoo:
PS:
A great way to teach our kids to do for others..
Have a small bale of straw. For every kind deed or good thing they add a piece of straw. Hopefully on the 24th Jesus will have a comfy bed!
Blessings!

Very nice Nativity display, Steve-and-Angela.
We usually put out three or four nativity scenes. One is a single piece of pewter in our computer room/guest bedroom that stays out all year. (we also have a Russian icon of the Nativity in a hallway that we use all the time but guests rarely enter that is there all year.) Our main Nativity set has figures that were a wedding gift from my mother. I made the stable from driftwood collected from the shoreline near her house on the New England coast. I would like to post a picture of it this year if I become more computer literate.

I'm buying a new one this year. I've seen some very nice ones, real pieces of art that I would love to have. So I've started saving as it is rather expensive. I'm not really religious but to me it is part of Christmas.
My old one is one I made years ago of plaster figurines. I will touch up the paint here and there and loan it to the local church where they put up an exposition of nativities every year.

We have an inexpensive one (from Walmart) with lots and lots of figures (lots of shepherds and lots and lots of animals). Everyone plays with it - rearranges the figures. Adults and children. It is on a waist high buffet that you walk by often.

Annette- thank you for this post! It is really touching to hear about everyones nativity scenes and what they mean to them. I have 2. Both have been gifts. I have a Lenox one that is small maybe 6" that a very dear friend at work gave me. I also have a wooden one that my MIL gave me on my first Christmas with my DH. I love this set. It is very rustic. This goes under the tree every year. I started that tradition for our son when he was about 2. On Christmas eve we went to Mass. My son toddles up to the alter wear the cradle for the baby Jesus was sitting. He turned around and ran back to us crying because the baby Jesus wasn't in his bed! From the mouth of babes. Even though he loves Santa and getting presents etc.. to him Christmas is about the baby Jesus. So I decided to put the creche under the tree.. He is 12 now and still loves looking at the nativity scene! Oh how fast they grow....:tree:

I collect Nativity sets and have a curiao cabinet filed with them the year around. Then come Novemember I bring out my different large ones. I have one for each room in the house. I have been known to kleep one of my large ones up the year around. It is above a cabinet so is out of the way and is high enough that I do not have to dust it weekly. l:cry:
I have a large set of just Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus that is lighted that I use outside also. And my DH has a wooden one cut out which my Granddaughter and I are in the process of painting. It will be spotlite outside if we ever manage to get it finished. There are 12 pieces to it.

I have two Nativity Sets that I use. The first is a musical figurine that my husband and I purchased the first year we were married. The second was one that my mother used for as long as I can remember. I have wonderful memories of helping her unwrap it each year. My sisters and I always wanted to be the one that got to unwrap baby Jesus. Now I share this with my children.

Christmas would not be Christmas without the Nativity. After all, this is why I celebrate Christmas. I have a small porceleon one that I put out every year but decided to leave it up all year this time around. It sits in our dining room enterige on the top shelf.
