Greetings,

We have been bombarded here at the North Pole in recent days about Santa and his pets. Specifically: dogs. Does Santa have a dog? That is the question we're getting over and over and over and over.

Enough already!

Yes, sheesh. Santa has a dog. Actually, he has many dogs.

Santa is a big dog lover. His luckiest dogs -- and the ones I swear I always see smiling -- are those who reside over at Santa's stables. Border Collies and Labradors, mostly. Must be a dozen of them over there.

Santa keeps them there because they roam the fields near the barns. Santa doesn't have any fences -- just the dogs.

Reindeer are very skitish animals. So it is a curious thing that Santa would use a high-strung breed like a a Border Collie. The clear Alpha male there is a pure-bred Border Collie that Santa calls King.

King is a stately animal. And only Santa can control him. Mostly he keeps to himself but if someone or something gets out of line King is right there. I have never seen him hurt anyone. But I've seen him scare plenty of folks, including elves.

Santa only has to whisper King's name from anywhere here at the North Pole. Just a whisper and King comes running. I remember a couple of years ago when Santa was just getting ready to launch the sleigh he was fiddling around with the runners, looking up underneath the sleigh.

Suddenly, King showed up and sat right down next to where Santa was kneeling. Santa whispered something and King shot up like he was sitting on a spring. He came back with a big pair of sack of cookies from Mrs. Claus' kitchen. Santa chuckled, reached into the bag and gave King a cookie.

So yes, my emailing little trolls. Santa has a dog. Lots of dogs. He has German shepherds, poodles, Jack Russells, terriers -- and mutts of all kinds. He loves dogs.

Thank you. Can we please now email something else? Something different? Puhleeeease?
