Does anyone have a Christmas Cactus? My sister in law has a lovely one with red flowers. She has had hers for a few years. I would love to have one myself.

:playing:I have a christmas cactus that my husband bought me six years ago. He bought two different colors, and trsansplanted them into one pot. One is orange, and the other is a deep pink. I keep it in my livingroom in the front window, and it must like it there, because it's doing beautifully.

You'll be happy you did buy one Annette. I just love my cactus. There are so many beautiful colors to choose from, that I'm so glad my husband did the choosing, because I know I wouldn't have ben able to make up my mind!

These plants can live a LONG time. My great grandparents had some and they died in the early 80s and had them for as long as I can remember and my grandparents took them and started us all one from them. I read in Birds and Blooms awhile back that a lady had one she thought was 0ver 90 yrs. old.

Maureen, try placing it by a Northern window, and make sure it gets cool nights during October and November.
That should recycle when it blooms, although it make take 2 seasons to do that.
Some also talk about putting it in a dark closet, in a plastic bag containing an apple for about 6 weeks in early October, but that is just too much work for me!

I have 5 plants, 2 red, orange, pink and white. They like a north face window, and perfer to dry out between watering. I really don't do anything special other that add plant food to the water end of September so they bloom for christmas, mine also bloom for easter, they are a bit confused.
