We never did this as a kid, therefore I never did it with my kids either. I remember hearing about it from some neighbors as a kid, and asked my Mom about it. She said "We're Lutheran, St. Nick only goes to Catholic houses." OK - made sense to me. I went to a Lutheran school, and so did/do my kids, probably why they've never asked about it either!
