We were there to see it in person!

Cracker Barrel has had Christmas stuff out in the store since at least last week. And the Flower Factory and Hobby Lobby are getting their stock out now.

Well, Cedar! Glad to see you are still among the living!
Watch out for those elves and thanks for checking in to put our minds at ease.

Good Morning, all!

Days to the Season: 75
Days to Christmas Day: 117
Less than 2 weeks until we pass through the 100-Day Christmas Day window and move into double-double digit territory. Then things will REALLY start to move fast!

Overcast with a chance of rain here in Raleigh this morning.
We currently stand at 75 degrees.
Slightly cooler weather with much lower humidity is promised for next week.
I can't wait.

Well, have a Stupendous Saturday, everybody - and I hope your Weekend is off to a Wonderous start!

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/AuntieMistletoe/WavingTurkey.gif Thanks for checking in, Cedar. I know it's hard to dodge those elves sometimes. At least, I was treated to Christmas music, the Sears Wish Book, eggnog and goodies. Sounds like they've been working you pretty hard. Guess they know if I was using a saw, glue or hammer it could be dangerous.

I've seen a few leaves changing colours already. Fall is coming, the Canadian Thanksgiving is coming, Eggnog hits the store shelves, Halloween is coming then the American Thanksgiving and then ... well you know ... Christmas movies hit the screen, non-year-round radio stations begin playing Christmas tunes, the pressure to shop mounts, decorations go up, excitement rules, etc.

Leading to ...

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/AuntieMistletoe/ch22Sleigh.gif Loading lots of goodies on his sleigh

Think for now, I'll just enjoy the last weekend of the summer and change the batteries in my camera so I'm all set for taking more Autumn photos.

A couple trees on my land are beginning the change this week. And it's feeling like fall, even though it's still been in the 80's and 90's. The closer it gets, the more we can't wait for Christmas. We've been listening to the Live365 channel here a few times this week getting a jump start on the holiday lol.

Hi, Dom.
Looks like you just beat me to the board this morning.

Days to the Season: 74
Days to Christmas Day: 116

Yet another bright, sunny, calm morning here in Raleigh with our temp standing at 74. (I really need to get a good walk in.)

Had more rain yesterday than predicted with the chance of more today.
Then, about 4 days of clear, cooler, lower humidity days to start out September.
In fact, it is supposed to be so nice, we may head over to the beach tomorrow afternoon to check on our place since the last of our summer renters will be out. If so, I will need a countdown volunteer for a few days (likely Tuesday through Thursday).
Will let you know tomorrow morning.

Well, have a Super Sunday, guys!
Get all rested up to start another week, another month, and soon another season.
Keep that Christmas song in your heart and the spirit of the Season with you.

Well, thanks yet again, Dom!
And yes, we are about to head out to the coast and will be away until late Thursday.

We currently stand at 74 here in Raleigh at this hour with calm, sunny skies.
The humidity is noticeably lower, as the weather people promised.
Looks like Louisiana is getting raked by Hurricane Gustav. Hopefully, all will be OK there. Fortunately, this storm is much weaker than Katrina was.

Days to the Season: 73
Days to Christmas Day: 115
Two weeks from tomorrow will bring us to the 100-Day Christmas Day window. Remarkable!

Well, have a Marvelous Monday and a great week.
I plan to be back here Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Hi Guys and a late Happy Labor Day to all...Labor Day...The simbolic changing of the guard, the day when all thoughts turn to autumn flavored events and back to school clothes...The time of year when we all begin the process of battening down the hatches, putting away the lawn furniture, stowing the bathing suits and towels and begin to wonder if the lights that are stashed in the basement will work this year, and if time wouldn't mind standing still a day or two so that we can truly enjoy the seasons and their changes...We're in the home stretch friends!!!

Yes, DVDguy - Florida does keep summer for the rest of us. We may ignore your sunshine until after New Years Day -- but then we will start thinking and dreaming of your wonderful, beautiful winters.

And Jayish -- you expressed it beautifully! The day after Labor Day Weekend is a huge change psychologically here in the USA! Summer days go on and on - and time seems to last forever! Then - we wake up today -- and suddenly time is running out! There is so much to do - and so little time! What happened........

Luckily, we love this time of year!

Dom - iced coffe does sound good! Have you ever had Thai Iced Coffee? Sometimes they make it at your table in a real Thai restaurant. A tall, kind of thin glass. About an inch of thick, sweet evaporated milk on the bottom of the glass. (Trust me on this. It is good.) Glass filled with crushed ice. On top of the glass is some kind of metal thing that fits the glass. It has delicious, strong, fresh drip coffee in it. Boiling water is poured into the metal thing. over the freshly ground coffee. You watch the coffee brew and smell its delicious fragrence. The strong coffee drips down slowly over the ice - making wonderful iced coffee. When it is finished sliding into the glass, you remove the metal thing on top. You have a long, iced tea spoon. You stir the thick cream on the bottom into the icy coffee. There is usually a straw for sipping. It is strong and cold and creamy and so delicious!

and for those of you who aren't familiar with Bonfire Night...........

Bonfire Night is celebrated across the UK on 5 November. The date marks the failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament by Guy Fawkes along with a group of co-conspirators in London in 1605.
The intention was to kill King James I and wipe out everyone in government. The group were Catholic extremists who wanted to return England to the Catholic faith. One of the conspirators had a friend in the Houses of Parliament and sent a letter to him, warning him to stay away from the House on the day the attack was supposed to take place. The letter was intercepted and handed to the king.
Meanwhile, Guy Fawkes and friends, having formulated their plan, known as the 'Gunpowder Plot', had rolled 36 barrels of gunpowder into the cellars of the Houses of Parliament, and were waiting for the king to arrive when guards broke in and arrested them. They were tortured and executed.
Nowadays on Bonfire Night people organise their own parties or attend big organised fireworks displays. They stand around the bonfire, set off fireworks and eat lots of nice warming food, like sausages and jacket potatoes. They might also remark...
Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot,
We see no reason,
Why gunpowder treason,
Should ever be forgot!
...Which sort of suggests that people rather admire the cheek of Guy Fawkes, trying to blow up Parliament, and that's why they celebrate Bonfire night, rather than celebrating the fact that his plot failed and he was caught!
Fireworks that are sent up on Bonfire night have really evocative names like, Roman Candles and Mount Vesuvius. There are also Catherine Wheels that spin and Sparklers that children write their names in the air with.
Children make life-sized effigies of Guy Fawkes which are called Guys, to put onto the bonfires. The English have been burning effigies to mark Guy Fawkes' treason for almost 400 years. The tradition started in 1606, the year after the Gunpowder plot failed. In these first bonfires, called 'bone fires' at the time, it wasn't an effigy of Guy Fawkes that was burned, but one of the Pope. It was not until 1806, two centuries later, that the people started burning effigies of Guy Fawkes instead.
Children make a Guy by stuffing some old clothes with newspapers, craft a head out of material, and either draw a face on it or buy a special cardboard Guy Fawkes mask. For a few days beforehand children are pushing guys around in prams, push chairs and go-carts, saying 'A penny for the guy'. Adults then give them money - how much depends on how good the guy is. The money is then spent on sparklers, or at least it would be, if children were still allowed to buy fireworks in the UK, so it is probably spent on sweets instead.

We celebrate our homecoming (football) with a bonfire and a pep rally. We have a burn ban here so, no bonfire for me at home. But I always wondered why our family had a bonfire on November 5th. My great grandfather was from Sussex so now I know the rest of the story.

The approaching season reminds me of the really good sledding hill when I was a kid.
Right after a fresh snowfall the sledding is slower but you keep at it and the sledding gets faster and faster with each new trip down hill. Then one day, the snow starts to fade and melt in the sun but still refreeze at night. THEN things really start going fast!!

My friends, I think we are in the thaw and refreeze phase of Christmas!

Are you going to get a flu shot this year? Do you take vitamins and drink lots of water every day? (No, soda and coffee do not count. Some of it has to be water.) Do you wash your hands when you come inside from being out - buying things and handling money and touching doorknobs and things with germs? All righty then!

...make plans now to once again join us here at 11:30PM on November 12th as the insomniacs of MMC meet in "real time.." to count down the last few minutes.... put the cat out... put on the coffee... eat m and ms and plan now...... we meet here "in real time" once each year.....
My coffee-soaked friend is so right. We look forward to that fabulous meeting every year to kick off the Christmas Season. I can't wait for our annual rendezvous!

Yes, Dom, Halloween items have been out at Crabtree mall for over a week now and "The Halloween Zone" (a Halloween-only store) is back open again.
Things are defitintely begining to "get seasonal".
What always starts getting me in the holiday mood every year is the begining of our annual State Fair which commences here in Raleigh in just over a month.
Things really seem to start moving fast after then.

Days to the Season: 65
Days to Christmas Day: 107.
As can plainly be seen, we are now exactly one week away from the 100-day Christmas Day marker.
And then......WOW! So close to 90% back to the Season!

Overcast in Raleigh at this hour with the threat of rain for the balance of the week. We are at a very pleasant 73 degrees, however.

Have a Terrific Tuesday, one and all!

Faithmomof6 --- it is rich and creamy and luscious! Depending on how much you use, it makes ordinary coffee taste -- like cappucino!

Snowytree -- it is really good!!! It tastes creamy -- not chemical -- or sort of wierd like some of the flavors for coffee. Now, I do know that food and drink (and wine) tastes different to different people. Just like perfume SMELLS different on different people. Because we all have our own chemical composition.

I love rich-tasting things -- like eggnog and real whipped cream. And this tastes rich like them - to me. I really recommend trying it.

I thought cappucino was espresso and hot milk - which makes the froth on top. But I don't really know......

My husband and I have a saying, to use when we are caught in a moment of blank stupidity. The saying is...."Doowickey?"

So, when you asked your perfectly reasonable question about cappucino --- the answer which came to my mind was ..."Doowickey?"

"Doowickey?" should always be uttered in a pleasant voice, accompanied by a blank look. I find it to be a very useful word. :hello:

SparkleNana

Coffee IS what I do love in the morning.

In fact -- did you know that there used to be such a thing as having a "coffee date"?

This was back when there was such a thing as "going on a date" -- which was a one time activity - designed to be a fun event WITHOUT sex! Can you imagine? A date could be a once in a lifetime thing with one person. Or - you could both decide to go on a "second date". Again - not involving sex. Involving conversation and -- a movie, a trip to the coffee shop - whatever.

And - one of the BEST ways to go on a date was to go on a "coffee date". Because - it only lasted for an hour. It would be set up if both people had a one hour break between classes. Or - after classes - before going to a job. Or to study.

There was no Starbucks. So coffee was very cheap (and not so delicious). The coffee date involved the cost of two cups of coffee. And -- conversation. It was almost always quite pleasant. It could lead to more "coffee dates". Or - it could simply lead to a friendship -- saying "Hi" when you passed each other. No strings. Very little cost.

I think it is good to have pleasant things in our lives, which don't cost much! How about you? What do you think?

Hey, Hey, Hey! Nobody here today!

Rise, shine, and smell that delicious sweet tea, guys.

Our count:
Days to the Season: 57
Days to Christmas Day: 99.
My, My, My - Don't those double-double digits look nice?
And less than 2 weeks to the 90% Season milestone - the home stretch begins! Unbelievable!

Well, another overcast, dampish looking day outside and we stand at a cool 65 degrees.
BEAUTIFUL weather is predicted for tomorrow and the rest of the week, however, with highs in the low to mid 70's and lot of sun. Can't wait!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday, everyone.
And doesn't that weekend view from the peak look nice, Holiday?
Just wish the clouds weren't obscuring it this morning.
(Then again, how can Christmas ever really be obscured??)

Good Morning, Friends!

The double-digit excitement is here!!!!! It is all good from now on! (You know what I mean -- all good on the Christmas front!)

Today, I needed TWO cups of delicious coffee. Soon I will switch to decaf with - "Sweet Italian Cream". It is really good.

Just think - if we all happened to be together today, we could talk about Christmas all day long and nobody would say, "EEEuwwww -- it's too early to talk about Christmas."

"I wish we could bottle up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month."
~Harlan Miller (Better Homes and Gardens)

That's my wish too! Welcome to "the first of the double-digits day" Christmas friends!

Open up a bottle of Christmas spirit every time you visit and when you contribute to the warmth and fun, you'll be leaving another jar of Christmas cheer for someone else to discover.

I'd like to see a roaming STAT holiday emerge celebrating the 99 days to go marker. Wonder if the various governments around the world would go for it?

O'Malley the cat wanted me to share something with y'all to mark this special day ...

.....That next milestone is the 3/4 xmas milestone I think? Sorry I'm going off the top of my head here. I just thought of that. Crown, confirmation on this?.....
Quite correct, my friend!

I often get so caught up with the Season milestones, I sometimes overlook the Christmas Day ones.
The 3/4 Christmas Day marker arrives on Sept 25, just one week from today.
<< Mental note to self - include the Christmas Day markers into the chart for 2009 instead of just a note to "add 42 days to the Season markers for Christmas Day" >>

Days to the Season: 56
Days to Christmas Day: 98.
And (for Trackrebel) - Days to single digits to Christmas: 89; Days to single digits to the Season: 47.
On we move, folks. Getting closer and closer by the day!

Clear, sunny and crisp this morning here in Raleigh, with our temp standing at 60. Low 80's by this afternoon, then 70's for highs the next few days after that with no rain. Invigorating!

Crown.. this afternoon when you awaken.. go ahead and explain this tradition... though our traditions here are certainly dieing....
Thanks for the reminder, my friend! The old memory is slipping. (Not enough sleep, I guess)

Anyway, what we like to do is present special posts for the days immediately leading up to the start of our Christmas Season (November 13). One member will take day 1 (Nov 12) to post their special message. Someone else will take day 2 (Nov 11) and so on, back to day 5 before the Season (Nov 8).
These posts can be thoughtful, sentimental, funny, a nice poem or story you know, a memory of Christmas past - anything you like - just as long as it is related to Christmas or the Christmas Season.

Since Binger thinks I am "such a 5", I will bow to their judgement and take that day (Nov 8). Binger has day 4 (Nov 9). Now we need volunteers for day 3 (Nov 10), day 2 (Nov 11) and day 1 (Nov 12).
First come, first selected!
(This is not to say anyone else cannot post their thoughts, feelings and stories as well, we just need a committment for someone to take a given day.)

With that said, on with the count!
Days to the Season: 54
Days to Christmas Day: 96.
And a mere 5 days to the 3/4 Christmas Day milestone.
After that - only TWELVE days to the 90% Season home stretch marker!
Wow, guys!

Chilly here this morning with our temp standing at 58.
Calm and sunny, though, with no rain in the forseeable forecast.

Have a Stupendous Saturday, everybody!

I'm here, I'm here!!! I'm just actually working for a change!!! We've been swamped...Ever notice that when the economy does what it's doing you feel like you are working twice as hard for half the money???

Countdown gets me through those days though...and when I see Crown and Binger around it warms my heart...Tradition at it's best!!!

Where is that Cedar???

Ah! "Pre-Friday", "Friday Eve", "The Day before the Day".
No, No, No. It's the day OF !

That's right - we have reached the day OF the 3/4 Christmas Day milestone! Three quarters gone, one to go. Time has slipped away, folks!

Days to the Season: 49
Days to Christmas Day: 91.
And note that the Season starts 7 weeks from today.
And wait - there's more. And mark this well. The Ninety Percent (and that's the same as 90%, Yogi) Season marker, the start of the Home Stretch, arrives on October 7. For those disinclined to check their calendars, that's a mere 12 days from today.
Hey! Better get that gift list started or get left in the snow.

Chilly and rainy here this morning as promised by the weather folks.
We currently stand at 60.

Have a Fabulous Friday, everybody!!

Happy Friday Eve... 3/4 to Christmas Day...

I am going to work on my Holiday Planning spreadsheet a bit. My Christmas cards arrived this week. Very exciting - they are beautiful!

Unfortunately, I hurt my neck this morning so I took a few medication and cannot wait to get home at the end of the day to rest. But I still am very happy today!

WOO HOOO!!! :???:

Good morning all & Happy Friday Eve! :D I just pulled up the 10 day forcast & according to weather.com today is the last day of 80º's. They are calling for highs in the 60's next week!!! YIKES!! Not sure if I'm ready for that yet!!!!

My niece sold me a little snowman that is a "Countdown to Christmas" snowman from Frankenmuth!!! It has 2 digits on it, so I am assuming it starts at 99 days. I also bought some cheese spread from her for one of our many Christmas parties we attend!! Can't wait!!!

Have a great day!!!

Good Morning! Hard to believe we are at the 3/4 mark. A lovely day here in Montana. It's been cool and crisp in the mornings here but our afternoons have been in the 70/80's. The leaves are slowly changing color and some leaves have started to fall. I love this time of the year. I hope everyone has a great day! The weekend is almost here!cheesy

90 days to Christmas....wow...time passes by so quick now....it will only be 50 days in no time....time is running....for me even faster since my sister in law is going to give birth to my nephew (thatīs what the doctor said..haha) in late October....probably earlier...so thatīs a big thing to happen...and when heīs there...itīs only a month to December....oh how I love December
